It's revenue and exposure for the conference. I'm all for it. Not a fan of YES! But...since our recruiting success has been moving more toward the NE...I would guess this can only help us.
For what it's worth (and the answer may well be 'not much'), I live in NYC along with a great many other Hokies. NYC isn't just for 'Syracuse' or 'Rutgers'... Graduates of many, many big state schools end up landing here. Very many of the schools, including many of the ACC schools, have alumni association ties with certain bars for game-watches (ours is the Village PourHouse on 3rd Ave and 11th St in the East Village - stop by to see us if you're in town!) that tons of people show up to. The long and short of it is: There are millions of TV's in NYC, and lots of them would be interested in tuning in to CFB.
If this helps increase the payout to the ACC schools (through more TV money, somehow, someway... leave that to the business/finance/marketing grads to figure out), all the better... Will be hard to keep up with the $EC and B1G no matter how you slice it.
This is a tangible example why moving to the SEC (from a football perspective) is the best thing for Virginia Tech. Strong arguments have been made on TKP in the past so I don't want to rehash old arguments.
It's an incredibly big deal to be able to say to recruits, "If you sign here, you will play against the best college football teams in the country. This means you get national recognition and the opportunity to test yourself against NFL neophytes. Both of those things will maximize your draft stock unlike any other conference in the country."
Get it done Weaver.
You have to include Mike Vick. We have not seen a college football player as electrifying as him since he played for us. The impact he had on Virginia Tech as a school is nearly unparalleled. While Tyrod was a class act and a pretty solid football player, Vick is the closest VT has ever been to a national championship.
Just how it is until we can beat teams like Alabama.
He'll make a ton of money selling that thing off if he doesnt make it very far in the pros. That ring will be one of a kind. Maybe Vladimir Putin would be interested.
can't blame him for the Alabama thing, but I dont think we're too far behind UGA. Total tradition; sure. Recent history; we've put some good teams on the field that could compete with them.
Or Loeffler didn't want him to commit to a school he wouldn't be at?
@ QB: He might not have been the best, but I am a huge Bryan Randall fan. He just seemed to be a hard worker and great leader.
@ RB: Loved Oxendine. I know others have come since that were more talented, but watching Ox gash WVU as a backup to Dwayne Thomas after the game got out of hand was just cool.
And wasn't it Atle Larsen who only had half a kicking foot? Kicked straight on instead of soccer style? Shane Graham goes down as the best, but I always admired Atle just because of his foot and he was still doing it.
I'm new to the website and wanted to say that the way I would describe the posts on this site, compared to Techsideline, is positive and more realistic. I believe the coaching changes were good but with another 10 win season... it doesn't happen. Worst enemy of great is being just good enough. And I agree with Shoog's comment: Beating high profile teams and throwing mad money like Clemson will not hurt!
I proudly wore my VT gear to the WV state fair last year. And I will do it again this year. I ain't skeered of those Eers!
Did the caption read "I can't wait to beat these guys for the next 4 years"?
I wear my VT gear to school everyday as well. And it probably was an animal that was supposed to be eaten. One of the towns have an annual road kill cook off festival.
Well dcs7c it certainly beats our old way of recruiting TEs for the OL. After all the TE IS the swiss army knife of football.
I'm excited that we are going out of start and actually recruiting linemen. Plus once Gentry gets ahold of them, they will be hogmollies is no time.
as a rational hokie fan i understand what he means
as an emotional hokie fan who wants to keep it classy i'll say "cool story bro"
I hope people take it as a cold splash of water on the face rather than a slight. I know a lot of us, myself included, struggle to understand why we can't land the big fish more often. From Park's perspective it's clear, VT isn't in the same class as Alabama and Georgia.
Virginia Tech was never at the peak of the mountain, but for a while the Hokies had the next best view. Lots of things, culminating with last year's disaster of a season, are responsible for a bit of a tumble down. The coaching changes were giant steps in the re-ascension of the program, now results have to happen on the field.
Great stuff, totally agree with everything.
I still can't believe the score was that close...
I saw Nnadi on instagram taking a picture a couple of weeks ago in chicago with Steven Moss, Quin Blanding, Andrew Brown and Jamil Kamara at an event for Under Armour I believe either way it made me very uncomfortable. lol
He was back getting a whole new degree from what I understood. He was getting a degree in Industrial Design. Not sure about the whole grad assistant thing though.
To answer your question on rivalries that are that one-sided, I think the one that comes to mind (even though it isn't in-state) is Notre Dame-Navy. ND won 43 straight in that series at one point, and keep in mind that Navy was no slouch team when the streak started. The first of those (a 40-0 ND win) was Roger Staubach's last year at Navy.
Wasn't Kevin Jones back at VT finishing up his degree. I thought was going to join the staff as a grad assistant.
Anybody know what happened to this?
Frozen Thin Mints > Samoas & unfrozen Thin Mints > Tagalongs > Whatever they call the lemon ones > Trefoils > Do-Si-Dos
Fact
Looks like the SEC is just going to try to take credit for any and all championships they can.
Guy who made the ring is probably a Georgia fan and did it just to rub it in Florida's face
Also, way too many pies here.

Gotta disagree with ya there, French.
Eddie Royal was one of the most game-changing WR's we had on offense and special teams. A review of the best plays from the 2004 season is basically an Eddie Royal highlight reel.
While I'd say Andre Davis is #1, I'd put Royal at 2nd.
I never saw Still, but for most reliable WR's I'd say Coale, Wilford (after his 2 pt conversion drop), and Boykin. Ricky Hall could be fit in there somewhere, too.
