That's really the biggest issue, IMHO. But even so, with the insane amount of TV coverage, just about anyone can see just about any game live, even if it's only on ESPN3. The exception is the Pac-12 Network, which I believe you have to pay for to even get the games online. If anyone can provide evidence against this, that'd be sweet, cause I still follow Stanford football quite a bit. *tangent complete*
As an Annapolis native, I would absolutely LOVE to see the Midshipmen in the ACC. But I don't think that will ever happen.
Lack of depth at the QB position has been a problem in our program since Marcus Vick was kicked off the team. If he plays in 2006, maybe Glennon is a little more polished in 2007 and we can red-shirt Tyrod. If Tyrod red-shirts, he is our starting QB in 2011 and we make a run at the national title.
Obviously thats a lot of speculation, but the main bulletted point is this: Layer your depth at important positions so that if somebody gets hurt or dismissed or transfers, you have capable back-ups.
I don't put much stock in the "Bucky isn't Loeffler's Guy" Theory. Bucky is a talented kid. I went to several of his games last season and, while he is raw, I have every confidence that he has all the tools to become a great QB under Loeffler. He'll red-shirt and compete with Leal for the starting spot in 2014.
So more good news: Ford is graduating high school in December, which I'm assuming means that he's enrolling early.
The one thing you might be undervaluing, though, is parents wanting to see their kids play in person. But otherwise, I'd definitely agree that going out of state isn't as big of a deal as it used to be.
Btw, this kid's highlight video had not one but three pump fakes. Sweet! Definitely the week got a whole lot better!
Recruiting is one of those things that, especially in the off season, people get very fanatical about. Add in the fact that we had one of the shittiest recruiting weeks in recent memory and people might tend to get overly excited and forget that Bucky is a talented kid too.
Complacency will kill you in today's college football, from recruiting all the way to winning games. Especially when the competition (Bama, Clemson, etc) are going cut throat in every aspect. Can't wait for this season!
Recruits don't always pan out...maybe Ford won't maybe Hodges won't maybe both won't and maybe both will during but in different seasons....the point is you want to get as many of the best players you can every year...Bucky was a 2013 commit we are relatively thin at the QB position especially after LT leaves...So I think were just excited to be bringing in a top level player...Also look at where Ford could have ended up...Pitt...that would have been a disaster..its just good to bring in a top flight QB... I wouldn't look at it too much as "This is our guy for the future"
To hear Logan Thomas telling Ford what he thought about Loeffler was pretty damning against O'Cain. How many times have Thomas publicly stated his cozy relationship with O'Cain was all hunky-dorky?
Then to read Andy Bitter's tweets about Ford's high school coach once coaching Chad Henne who then went on to tutor under Loeffler tells me that Ford felt he could learn whole lot more from Leoffler than anywhere else.
I am just happy that he wants to be a Hokies, and that is all that truly matter.
Pennsylvania, huh? Some okay QBs come the Keystone. Gannon, Namath, Jim Kelly, Marino, Unitas, Montana. Place your MNC bets now :)
Also, for whatever Frisky Dingo fans may lurk around the boards, we finally have a < Nearl > Mr. Ford < /Nearl > on the team.
One thing that nobody seems to be talking about yet is that this kid really seems to have a good set of wheels. On the few designed runs in his film clip, once he gets into the open he really eats up a lot of ground quickly. I saw somewhere else that he's been clocked in the 4.5 range in the 40. After watching his film, I can believe it.
I'm liking this pickup more and more. :-)
I just checked out his Twitter. He actually seems cool with it all.
I had the same thought when I saw that tweet, but after everything involving our public pursuit of #beachflow, Park, etc do you think he began to assume he was the guy by default? Competition breeds excellence.
Let the record show: I was (somehow) right (for once) in a prediction. Next prediction: 17 VT- 16 BAMA
Who called that shit? I CALLED THAT SHIT. Welcome to Hokie Nation. Do good things
Perhaps, but the coaches were honest with him. He'll get a shot at QB, otherwise they believe he's a good enough athlete to play a bunch of other positions.
I got a feeling Tracing McMillan is not happy about this.
This quote makes me feel things.
Beamer turned the play calling over to O'Cain in part because his coach-player relationship with Thomas. To read into it, Logan might not have been feeling that. A lot of things were wrong with the offense during O'Cain's tenure, but I feel like he failed Tyrod in his development (although quarterback swap didn't help either), and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Michael Via was the only starter he had a hand in recruiting.
The more I hear tidbits and read quotes about the coaches no longer with the team, the more I believe complacency set in for them.
It goes without saying, but I'm happy a hungry Loeffler is in Blacksburg.

This kid is awesome! Plenty of great quotes about the him in this article.
This also might explain why an elite 11 QB supposedly only had offers from VT Temple and Umass.
"Ford chose the Hokies over Virginia and Pitt. Most national recruiting sites show Ford with offers from only Temple and UMass. But he had plenty of other offers. The 6-3, 195-pound Ford chose not to make them public."
Confirmation of what we already knew regarding MOC's coaching in this little nugget:
"When I talked with Logan Thomas about coach Loeffler, he told me he learned more from him in the first three months from him than he did in his previous three years," Ford said. "I also talked with Chad Henne. And he told me some of the things he learned in the first three months with coach Loeffler he hasn't seen in the NFL.
yeah:

Yeah, if that's official that's really fast for a pocket QB.
Nope

It's always a great day when a talented young man chooses to be a Hokie. Welcome aboard, Andrew. I hope Loeffler trains you to become a top-notch college QB and I look forward to seeing you on the field.
