Sometimes it's better to be a big fish in a small pond...while Bama is a good choice for most top recruits it is incorrect to state that it is every prospect's "best" choice.
We got 7 tickets in section 349. I sat close to there at the 2009 Chick-Fil-A bowl and seats weren't bad, I just wish I were one section lower. Nonetheless, I am just thankful to have tickets.
I am trying to use Georgia clips for the linebacker overview, however most of their success came from whipping up on the backup nose tackle, as Jesse Williams was not 100%. The projected nose this year is a big kid, but was only a 3 star and wasn't as strong as Williams. If I felt better about the interior of our offensive line, I would like that matchup a little more.
That would be awesome to go to an away game there. Annapolis bars are pretty decent. Stopped through there the night before I went to an O's/Phillies game last year.
anyone have clips showing some teams being effective (TAM or UGA?) against the bama front and how they did it?
yeah, i remember mcclain using that considerable size and power to shove a ref. . .and not get kicked out of the game for it.
gotta love the sec
I think that if we can mount even a moderately effective running game against Bama, we have a decent chance. In my mind, this is the key to the game. Bama will be breaking in a green secondary, and we might be able to exploit them for some yardage. It's an uphill climb, but it's do-able.

It's just like Cal said, "Getting QBs is kind of like when I was growing pot, I realized that the more seeds I planted, the more pot I could ultimately smoke."
They might be down votes for faulty logic. How it Hand going out of state disrespectful to Virginia? If he committed to Tech would it be disrespect to UVa. Are the players we land from other states disrespecting their homes too? There's no rule, written or unwritten, that mandates a highly touted recruit attends an in-state school.
I don't think the excitement about Ford's commitment is a knock on Hodges, I just think Hokie fans are happy and relieved to see we will have some legit D1 depth at the position. Not getting a prospect like Ford would mean our coaches would have to look further for a non-committed diamond in the rough prospect.
Consider the QB talent that VT has been blessed with over the last decade...
Top Tier
Bryan Randall - #1 Va, #15 nation - SuperPrep ****
Marcus Vick - #1 Va, #8 nation - Rivals *****
Tyrod Taylor - #1 Va, #27 nation - Rivals *****
Second Tier
Sean Glennon - #3 Va - Rivals ****
Logan Thomas - #4 Va, #71 nation - Rivals ****
We have been successful on the field despite a clear identity on offense and questionable QB development. This is due to the fact that the men running our offense have been gifted with the tools to overcome these deficiencies.
Our best QB play has come from the guys in the Top tier - top 50 players in the country, #1 in the state.
Consider the next in line...
Mark Leal - unranked Fl - Rivals ***
Bucky Hodges - #10 Va - Rivals ****
Andrew Ford - #11 Pa - Rivals ***
Based on their prep resumes, there isn't a QB in this group that would be placed in the top 2 tiers of starting VT QBs over the past decade.
I think there is a fear amongst many seasoned Hokie fans that we could be in for in significant drop in production from the QB position unless we are able to right the ship on offense with our new coaching staff.
I'm not saying we can't be successful with one of the guys listed above, I just think that our coaches will have to work much harder to get the results we have been accustomed to - ie: ACC championships.
Thoughts?
I saw that too. There isn't another actual RB in the conference they could throw up there? Hell, LT is a better RB than Morris.
From a non biased view, it is the best choice. They are the best team, pumping players to the NFL, winning championships.
Location/Proximity To Home
Depth chart loaded at position
Lack of desired academic focus
Dislike scheme, such as a 4-3 Defensive Lineman fitting in their 3-4 scheme or a mobile QB
Another recruit at his position already committed
Alabama not interested in recruit
That's just 6, but I think you get the idea. Just because they currently have the best program does not mean it's the best for every player.
"Best" choice? Depends on what selection matrix the recruit is using to determine where they want to go to school.
Why is AL not the best choice for a top recruit? What are ten good reasons?
Does anyone know which side of the stadium we'll be on? Press box or the non-press box side?
Could lead to some interesting conditioned responses by my body while doing yard work.
I agree - though it was disappointing not to land any of the three (Cornwell, Park or Hand), I was surprised at the doom & gloom on the site.
I don't ever remember the Hokies pursuing so many elite talents & for us to suddenly land just one would have been a huge leap. Remember, even elite programs strike out on elite talent... it's just that they're more used to seeing 5-stars commit, so when one doesn't it's not that big of a deal. Give this staff time to develop an identity on the field and more than one recruiting cycle, I would expect we will see results in the next few years. So we may not have landed a big-name recruit this go around, but as long as we're getting quality players & developing them to perform we shouldn't wallow in misery.
Plus, still being in the mix for some other high-profile recruits is reason for optimism - the world won't end because a few guys decided they want to play elsewhere.
Down votes because I expressed my opinion? Bad form.
Only one Hokie lineman in the list. That is why LT is the only other Hokie on the list. Doesn't look good.
There's a lot of stuff about her that could be described as wrong way.
The big issue with Bama is personnel. The size of their linebackers is astonishing. You'll remember McClane playing ILB at 260. Courtney Upshaw played OLB at 270. And they can move. Their size and athleticism creates physical mismatches up front.

Wait. Is Ford *6'3"*, 6'3"? Or is he Virginia Tech 6'3", i.e. 6'ish?
