Pitt, our rival? It'd kind of help if we beat Pitt every once in a while.

/Ducks

Definitely. Too many bad losses to Pitt - they need to be avenged!

When I saw the ESPN article, I thought to myself that really all they're doing is trying to define new "rivalries" that are fabricated so they can advertise the games they air in a new light. We have a true rivalry with UVa, as well as WVU (at least, we did). Beyond that, it's all created in the minds of the media. The GT "rivalry" makes a bit of sense based on on-field competitiveness and the history of winning the ACC Coastal. We've had some intense games with Miami dating back to the Big East, so I can sort of see that, but really are Miami and GT rivalries? It's just good competition within the division and has made the Coastal a lot more entertaining than the Atlantic recently.

All I can say is everyone needs to be patient with this new staff. They're making the right calls as far as development and personnel, but they need to be given time to let their coaching make its mark.

VT is not a program fit for the Spread Attack. Lefty & Company are implementing the type of offense that best fits the Hokies.

I've got to be honest here, as much as I love this thread and think there are some bad ass unis on here, get me back to the #allmarooneverything. Maybe the change will bring back our identity of being underdogs and fighting for everything. Maybe it will bring back the Corey Moore crazy eyes, highlight reel special teams, and teams knowing that no matter the outcome of the game they were leaving the game physically beat and broken. I hope this D can carry on from last year and I hope AJ doesn't remember he's dating Katherine Webb when they get done with him.

Great first article, really glad to have you as a contributor. Two questions:

1. You basically surmise that Keihl Frazier isn't very good. Loeffler will have had as much time with LT as he had with Frazier. How much of Frazier not being good is on Loeffler? That last pass, Frazier doesn't set his feet because of the unblocked man and sails it. That could have been any game of LT's last year. I know LT is inherently better than Frazier, but doesn't "Keihl Frazier isn't very good" represent a poor mark on Loeffler to some degree?

2. You said that VT has more talent than Auburn. Which positions? My memory of that Auburn team (which is mostly taken from that Clemson game) is that they had a couple of very good backs (better than ours?) and a couple of solid WR's (better than all of our non-Cole WR's?) and a really, really good TE (whereas we are generally pretty green at the position). I can't speak to their OL, but if it wasn't as good as VT's, then that is more on Grimes since he built that OL over years. Can you clarify how VT has more talent than Auburn last year on offense? (Please! Make me feel better about our Offensive talent! It will make summer that much better!)

If you mean Pitt replace UVA, then no. If you mean Pitt replace BC as our cross-division rival, then yes. If you mean just another "rivalry" (like Miami or GT), then sure.

I would prefer that we begin a win streak against them, starting this year! Seriously, we gotta beat them this time around!

I hope this new scoreboard will coincide with a new, more competent era of Hokie Offense

I would prefer to be rivals with a team that at least fills up their stadium. Pitt has only done it twice in the last 4 years and both were against Notre Dame. The only time they came close last year was against us with 48k.

When was the last time Pitt was considered to be elite? I can't remember. I want to have a rival that is capable of producing a matchup that garners national attention/excitement. I don't see that happening with Pitt vs VT. There will be some great games between us in the future, I'm sure, but I think it will be tough to create a nationally anticipated matchup with them.

I would rather continue to develop a rivalry with Clemson, hopefully seeing them in the ACC Championship game again.

Yeah, I think I kinda like the matchup. I think its a good fit, as we are very similar in the styles of play. We have had some very memorable games.......going back to the BE days, and even though it never gets old beating the boohoos, a little bit of a challenge would be nice.....lol.

ha, my company uses their fans too. we all got a kick out of it when they were installed.

Yeah, can't really get around it since that is the companies name. I'm honestly surprised we didn't get complaints from random parents.

Great read, Andy, and thanks for sharing. I always like hearing about Hokies in the NFL.
But I think I speak for all the Hokie girls on this site when I say that we really didn't need to know that bit about him getting married...
Oh well.
Regardless, Danny Coale will always be one of my favorite Hokies!

The more immature part of my brain read that last bit as big ass-fans. Tee hee. Here's hoping this is buried enough in the comments that no young eyes see it. Cause really, this is just tasteless.
