i didnt even know some of these guys had even been in trouble with the law.
but yeah, thats a hoss team right there.
They just had a decent article in the ct of all places, with coach Hughes saying they needed to execute in finish this year, which they didn't last year. This was a great start to that.
surprising to see louisville so high, not surprising to see uva with so many contributions. a good friend of mine works for their medical school and she told me multi-million dollar gifts are routine.
Just because.

I love the idea, and that's a pretty good team! Props deathrow
I thought it was an ACC rule not to allow non-qualifiers (which is what Harris will be if his HS transcript isn't cleared up.)
Non qualifiers are kids who don't have the grades or test scores out of HS to get into college. Prep school kids are partial qualifiers, generally there to improve their test scores to get in. (I think that's all you can do anymore, you used to be able to retake your senior year classes to raise your GPA but I think they did away with that. But GPA + test Scores are a sliding scale, so a kid may have bad grades and go prep school to add a higher test score to get in)
There are JUCO partial qualifiers/qualifiers. Sylvester Williams, DT for UNC who was a 1st round draft pick, was a qualifier out of HS but nobody recruited him, so he went JUCO, blew up and got offers. Another type of JUCO is the transfer, which is what Kevin MacAdam was. He played at Colorado State for a year then transferred to a JUCO then came to VT for two years.
I believe Big Jimmy Williams and the rover (Griffin?) were both partial qualifiers. If I recall correctly, VT hasn't let in a non-qualifier since before the bowl run started. But I thought it was an ACC rule. I know the SEC and the B12 do not have this rule (see Baylor, Kansas State). Of note, there are a couple of big JUCO's in Mississippi which have fed players to Ole Miss, Bama and Miss St over the years. Most of the JUCO's are in Kansas or California.
He also goes to Benedictine. So he's no dummy, either.
I don't either. He's got Northern Illinois ahead of us, without their QB or coach. It's not a ranking in isolation, you have to consider how many teams are clearly better than we are at this stage. Everyone's got questions. We have talent + coaching. We have one of the best returning defenses in the country. We have a senior QB returning. Those are really the two biggest factors in preseason rankings, returning defenders + returning QB's (+ returning OL).
I find your lack of faith disturbing. The only people who are gonna be "shocked" are Alabama fans, who aren't the brightest people, and ESPN's token bitchboy, Kirk Herbstreit.
i dont think being ranked 25 is all that far fetched. like staples says, "Last year was one of the worst in the Frank Beamer era, and a program that has been a model of consistency probably won't be down long -- especially when it returns nine defensive starters."
i honestly dont think we'll #beatbama (i know, i know, downvote me if you must) but i think we'll be a solid squad right in the mix for the coastal.
sports illustrated has little interest in espn getting good ratings for the game. they're pretty bitter competitors.
Easy, slugger. I'll settle for up a point as the final second ticks off and the ball hits the ground out of bounds. The rankings can wait.
That would definitely ensure us a place the tournament, but we're in a pretty good position right now for an at-large bid. I've been in touch with Kendall Rogers over at Perfect Game and he has Tech ranked 20th in the country right now based on us having such a high RPI. He also releases a projected field of 64 every Thursday so if you wanted to read up on some of his stuff or wait for that article you all can find it here: http://www.perfectgame.org/college/default.aspx
We need to be able to sweep Marist this weekend and then take at least 2 of 3 from Wake. I think that would get us in the tournament.
I think it depends on how much we beatbama by. If its a close game decided in the last couple posessions, then I think you're right. If we're pulling away in the late 3rd/early 4th, then I think we end up jumping them.
I'll be interested to se UNC after all butch davis' recruits are gone. I hate unc almost as much as uva and my fiance is going to grad school there now so we have to win this year. Our division is pretty even across the board i also think it could be a toss up between vt, unc, gt and maybe miami. I hope we are able to just destroy all of them this year
My initial reaction was that this guy must work for ESPN, and he's been instructed to bump us in order to promote the game. Rankings don't mean diddlysquat at this point. Hopefully we make our point on August 31. What really steams me is that I know that even if we beat Bama, they fall to probably 10-12 in the rankings, and we get ranked at 15-16 or so, and they're still ahead of us in the polls.Thats just how the game works.
Ending the year with a chance to play Florida, South Carolina, or Georgia in a bowl game in Atlanta on New Years Eve in ATL would be pretty awesome.
Of course if we were to go really above expectations the Orange Bowl has the first pick this year among BCS games once getting past the other conference tie ins.
If we didn't get to those 2 bowls from a fan perspective I would rather do the Music City Bowl in Nashville against an SEC opponent (guessing Ole Miss). From fan perspective I personally probably wouldn't be too inclined to travel to El Paso for Sun Bowl or be to excited playing a team from the AAC
I really like this one. Hope we land him. Thanks for the heads up!
I believe so. Someone can correct me on this, but I think where Tech will lag behind other schools is if Harris has to go JuCo. Tech's policy is strict with regards to JuCo players.
I totally don't agree with 25. I love my Hokies and I believe that we will #shocktheworld, but last year and the showing this spring was not enough to put us in the top 25. Must be some politics so more people will watch the August 31 game.
It's all good though - more viewers = more Alabama tears 8^)
Where's the U? Someone told me they were back...

CBSSports is predicting VT - South Carolina in the Peach Bowl. However, they are also predicting UVA to a bowl, so I'm not sure I can take that prediction seriously.
