wait a minute. . .so you're telling me that unsubstantiated rumors flying around the internet might not be true?
well i'll be damned
Gotta give credit to him, the dude never tolerates a culture of complacency.
Bad press is good press???
Dude...great analysis!
I thought you might be slightly less dejected after looking at the film. I've just made it through the first quarter so far, so can't speak to the whole game, but I saw some good things along with the not-so-good things. This is a snapshot on the way to being where the team will be on Aug 31. Let's hope the bumps in the road aren't insurmountable.
Let's not forget the 2011 Commonwealth Cup, either
2011 Georgia Tech? He had another 5TD performance and trademarked 3rd and Logan. Or even the 2012 Sugar bowl, he showed that he could lead drives down the length of the field on top 10 defenses. I'm not saying that he is the savior or anything, but people are forgetting just how good he was in the second half of 2011. He had the highest passer rating in the country for the final 8 games of the season.
You're right about the presumption, but 18.2-51 isn't really "malicious wounding" but requires a wounding or bodily injury. I know its commonly refered to as MW, but thats the short name of the statute. He also has to have acted with malicious intent and the intent to maim, disfigure or kill. Hard to tell what will happen in the end until the facts come out.
It's made the headlines section of espn.com =/
Sorry, I was just happy he didn't look over us. He could have easily said he isn't ready for the season or SEC Play, but he pointed out he isn't ready for VT.
Statement retracted. Just a BAD joke.
Agreed.
From the police report, sounds like no weapon was involved. Malicious wounding does not require a weapon, and can result from bones breaking or lacerations.
For all we know, Holmes broke the the dudes nose or eye socket. Both of which are easy to do damage too if you land a good punch and would meet the requirements.
Also, sounds like the other two involved will be arrested too, so I bet the police are trying to clarify the story. Wonder if there are any cameras on that parking lot.
If I knew all it took to get in TOTS and everywhere else DT was to be on the football teams (or basketball team...ahem *cough cough Robert Brown), I would have tried to be a walk-on.
and she was right about the other three getting arrested
It's starting to look like his mom is telling the truth. While details are still unknown, she was right about it being over a girl. Before y'all talk anymore crap, let's wait til we know the facts.
Very well said.
Jimmy Turk's on the case! He'll be reinstated before practices start up again. Hopefully he does to Bama what he did to that dude.
Things I noticed:
- Logan stares down receivers (as many have mentioned). While his delivery is cleaner and crisper in most cases, the defense easily knows where the ball is going. The problem also comes from the fact that he is putting more zip on the ball, often trying to thread the needle, and the receivers aren't able to handle it. That fault is on the receivers though. If a ball hits your hands, especially your numbers/pads, you should catch it. No excuses. Also, even though Logan threw 3 picks, he hit the fullback in the flats which he could never do last year. He also played his check downs, even though there was another man open that wasn't his primary receiver on the play. Both of these are little improvements after 15 practices that I hope he can build on over the summer.
- DJ Coles is fine. I loved seeing him take the screen pass for significant yards and plow through players. While Shaw picked off the pass thrown to DJ, DJ ran through him and bowled him over. I loved that physicality from our receivers.
- We have no idea besides Kyshoen who will field punts. Kickoffs aren't much better. We probably saw about 10 different combinations of players out there fielding the kicks and nobody really impressed me. It was an ugly experiment.
- Our best weapon is AJ Hughes. The kid booted kicks like I've never seen. Some of it was the wind, but the hang time was incredible. Our coverage team was right there in the returners face. I don't see many teams getting big returns on us when he's kicking like that.
- Based on only the Spring Game, no RB drastically stood out. We clearly wanted to focus on passing plays and despite Edmunds' long run that was called back, nothing beyond a 6 yard gain was really that great. I'm not sure I can even give Edmunds a lot of credit for that play because I can't tell if the holding gave him his hole to make the big gain. I like the idea of Edmunds and JC being on the field together though. We need as many playmakers out there as we can get.
- Stanford will see the most playing time of our r-Fr (assuming he gets his medical redshirt). The kid made plays and was clearly the main receiver on the field, seeing as how Logan threw to him more than anybody else. I don't even know if Knowles had a catch. Regardless, he's ahead of Caleb, Asante, and every other young receiver and has a bright future ahead of him. I'm looking forward to seeing him develop even more.
Look, I'm all for speculating, as that's what 90% of this forum is for, but let's ease up on convicting the kid already. I've heard a few things, none of which is stabbing, from someone close to the team. But of course, it's all rumors. I was at TOTS around that time, but don't remember anything but making a beeline for Jimmy John's.
What I DO take issue with is the assumption of something like his mother's grammar is an indication of his guilt, and lumping all Harrisonburg players into the category of thugs. Not all college students and athletes come from a well educated background with parents that went to college, and that's part of what's great about the "American Dream" or whatever you want to call it. So let's maybe cool it on the elitist rhetoric, and understand that a mother would obviously been in a hysteric frame of mind after something like this.
For anyone that's been in or around a fight, things escalate quickly, punches are thrown without foresight, and oftentimes things that aren't meant to happen, do. I don't think there was a stabbing, but I'm sure there's far more to this than simply the face value of a MW charge.

A few more details here. http://vtsports.blogs.timesdispatch.com/2013/04/22/holmes-not-arraigned-...
O’Dell said the fight started as a verbal altercation between a female companion of Holmes’ and two other females. It escalated to a physical altercation between the women and was joined by Holmes and another male.
That male sustained injuries that sent him to the hospital Sunday and led to Holmes’ being charged with felony malicious wounding.
O’Dell said no weapons were used in the fight, “just hands and feet.”
When are these players (not just VT guys) gonna learn that nothing good happens on the street after midnight??...geesh!

Let's look at the positives here, if we get into a fight (ala Miami-FIU) then Holmes is extremely valuable.
