Sounds like the Heisman to me. Every commentator invariably mentions that (insert player here)'s Heisman hopes are gone if (insert top-10 team here) loses. That's what's frustrating - it's an individual award. You might be the best player on the field/court but if you're not on a great team, you're not considered even if the award is for individuals. Green definitely deserves to be in the running. Our record and standing within the ACC aside, the guy is ridiculous.

Without situational information, it would be impossible to calculate. Considering the situation most 4th down conversions come in, I don't think not realistic to guess 60% will end up in a touchdown. 4th down conversion attempts typically come in 3 varieties:
1. Past mid-field, not yet in field goal range
2. Short yardage (less than 2 yards), typically in field goal range
3. At the end of the game, when out of field goal range or need more than 3 points to tie

Only #2 yields a good chance of scoring a TD, since the team is likely near to the redzone. #1 yields as good of a chance for a FG attempt as a TD attempt. #3 may not yield in any points scored. Furthermore, all 4th down conversions yield the chance to turn the ball over, which is very unlikely on FG attempts.

Also, if FGs were removed, more long yardage 4th down attempts would be attempted, likely decreasing the 51% conversion rate significantly.

This is all theoretical, so it's like debating whether mermaids or pixies are hotter (definitely mermaids). Nevertheless, I would hypothesize removing FGs would yield overall less points scored.

I know that every Tech fan knows that he's the best player in the conference, and just about every fan of other ACC teams (including Duke) who have talked to think he's the best in the conference. But the writers are going to vote for players at big schools. Plumlee is going to win ACC POY even though he has no business getting it over Green, but Duke and UNC rule basketball voting so Green really has no shot.

I was thinking the same thing but I'm looking at like this: the kid already has his future decided, VT in his pocket, why deal with a jerk of a coach if there's no point. I hope that's what it came down to (I just texted my friend to see if he knows anything more about the coach).

Also, his facebook lists his occupation as "QB in the NFL" and he tweeted about enjoying working with Loeffler. Seems like he's motivated and not too bad of a kid. Only time will tell.

Edit: my friends response "yea the word is that no one really likes him or respects him as a coach"

my friend who has trained with Bucky and met him a few times (I live in VB) tells me he's a freak athlete. He told me he's like a young Blake Griffin on the bball court. Who knows, he may have a better future catching passes than throwing them. So I agree that we can't just put all of our eggs into Bucky's basket.

PS - He also informed that Bucky quit his HS basketball team, citing that he didn't get along with the coach. Good thing for us, decreased chance of injury.

I agree with this, however we also have to look at the rest of the offense. We may not have the OL necessary to allow a pocket passer to be successful yet.

I expect to see a shift in offensive philosophy, but it will be gradual. In that case, Bucky may be the better bet until we can get the athletes that will give someone like Jacob Park the tools to succeed.

Cortland appears to not be well liked, as evidenced by Andre Johnson beating the living hell out of him:

New OC, New Mold.

Loeffler's going to bring in guys that he feels best execute what he is trying to do on offense. If that guy ends up being similar to what LT3, Tyrod & BRand are/were, than so be it. But we'll just have to wait and see. It would be foolish of the staff to rest on their laurels with Bucky. Who knows how he will pan out, and the last thing we want happening is to have (a) no one waiting in the wings, and (b) no one challenging him.

The nations leading scorer is playing in the toughest (or at least top-3) conference in the nation...upped his average in conference play...leads the #2 guy by over 10 pts!!! Not like he's playing for VMI or Cal-Tech...dude is playing at the highest level against tough competition.

He should not only be on the list, but should be the leading candidate right now. If he keeps scoring 30/game in ACC play, ESPN will need to get their head out of their ass and start covering him!

a possible FB? Our new OC will be looking for one, especially one that can be a road-grader. Kid seems to have power, good (not great) speed. If you look at Auburn film, they used a LOT of FB lead blocking.

(Likely by design from the WWL) He is always trying to do both.

You know what I would enjoy watching? "Bayless2Bayless", a show where Skip's celebrity chef brother Rick cooks a meal a la Emeril (or any other Food Network star), then watch Skip taste the meal and then critique the shit out of it like he does on First Take (or whatever they're calling that show today). I'd watch that. Especially when you consider it is criticism, siblings, potentially hot items, and sharp objects.

I mean it's kinda hard to keep your cool when you've had 1st class punk Cortland Finnegan defending you all game...especially in crunch time. I'm not excusing what he did, but I can see why in the heat of the moment.

I would really like to see what Skip has to say if he wasn't trying to 1) draw attention to himself 2) trying to create controversy and TV ratings

There are two main reasons McDermott is in there; because he leads a ranked mid-major and he was a preseason 1st Team All-American by virtually every media outlet. He hasn't done anything to dissuade that hype thus far.

poor erick, dude has worked so hard to get where he is and the most recognition he'll probably get is 2nd team acc.

like i've said on other sites, hang his pic in the rafters when he graduates.

Only one of these players plays for a team outside the top 22 RPI (Creighton, #31), and only one plays for a team ranked outside of the AP top 21 (UNLV, #27).

They aren't going to look for players on teams that have no realistic shot of making the NCAAT.
