I think Cornell has what it takes to be a really good recruiter. If Tech can get Brown in the 757 area and start making his connections now, that should pay dividends down the road.
Coaching football has to be the easiest part of the job for a former player like Brown. Recruiting, that calls for a completely different skill set that I wouldn't necessarily expect a young coach to have. He'll improve, and as he does he'll be entrusted with more and more responsibilities on the trail.
we can keep this guy for a while. If he's successful, I'm not sure we can hang onto him for long.
We just need to get him to get that wild-eyed "I'm-gonna-kick-your-butt-into-next-week!" look like Bud. Maybe that will be a game-day thing. Having Bud and Grimes next to each other with killer looks on their faces could probably win us a few games just on gotee-strength alone.
I'm thinking this is going to be a really good hire.
How about a way to early 2013 depth chart looking at some of the freshmen and red shirts we intend to contribute come fall.
After I watched this, I was perfectly happy with him as our o-line coach. I think a lot of the old guard just got old, and complacent. At the very least, I'm happy we brought in fresh blood. Indeed, he seems like a man's man.
the last few years. They may be moving Cornell into Newsome's old role.
Cornell, to this point, hasn't shown much recruiting (or coaching). It's a highly risky move to give him all of 757.
So basically Bud reincarnated as an OL coach... I like that. :-)
Watched this one eating breakfast with my brother while deployed to Afghanistan. Good times.
I think I read somewhere that Cornell is taking over the 757, which makes little sense to me. Maybe Stiney's new position doesn't allow for him to be on the road as much?
Kept having trouble with the embed, so here's the link:

Green is down to 3 .. Michigan, Auburn, and Tennessee. I'd say that there's at least a 75% chance that he ends up at Michigan.
focused more on recruiting their position as opposed to recruiting their geographic area. This, in my opinion, is a big change that we could see from VT. Look in the spring for VT to have offers to offensive lineman in odd areas like Texas, Florida, Illinois...maybe even Colorado and California. Thoughts on new recruiting areas:
Stiney: 757
Shane: Richmond, prep schools, Georgia
Cornell: Southside, SWVA, Valley, Baltimore
Torrian: Ga, FL, SC, DB's
Bud: Nova, LB's
Wiles: NC, FL
Loeffler: QB's, PA, MI
Grimes: OL, Tx, Bama, West
Moorehead: IL, DC, MD, NJ, NY, West
I have seriously tried to find the right photos to 'shop together and cannot find anything that even closely matches. I've been unable to locate even a full body shot (head to toe) of either of the coaches. Some help would be greatly appreciated!
Just starting is really not the determining factor for success - hell, 2-3 stars start. Excelling is the benchmark for 5-stars, and what we know is that 40-50% of them end up getting drafted.
Your argument is invalid.
Yeah, something like that. I know that *I* know it from TKP, though whether it was embedded in a post or just linked to... /shrug
The start of a major comeback from a minor setback. Hope for the rest of the season. Beating them after the loss the year before. Beating them in their own uniforms.
Great road trip with @hokie20. Met up with some friends prior to the game and drank my ass off. Met the Clubhouse Tailgate guys for the first time and haven't gone a VT game without tailgating with those guys since. Our seats for the game were awesome.
Just a lot of great memories from that trip.
Jesse Palmer said it about Isaiah Johnson
This right here wins everything forever!
Oh my gosh hahahahaha comment of the year.
And how could I forget... the 1995 Miami game. I was a wee-child, but I remember it well. I sat in the old bleachers under the scoreboard in the south endzone. After the game, we went on the field, and I put on Shane Beamer's helmet and ran around.
I think it was a "behind the scenes at practice" type of show that ESPNU did early during the 2011 season.
This comment is absolutely absurd. Here, have a turkey leg.

I had never seen this video before. I'm dying.
