2011 miami stands out to me. it was a great game but it was also just a great day to me. we grilled out, my brother (who likes miami) was in town, and we had some friends over. just one of those days when everything was just perfect. family, good friends, good grub, the hokies were playing, and the booze was flowing.
then this happened,
hokie magic, perfect day
My 11 year old ass may have gotten splinters from the south endzone bleachers but from that day on I knew I was going to be a Hokie.
What made this game so great was that it was a blowout after having the final drive win the week before against Nebraska.
I remember seeing Danny Coale down the sideline, pointing and trying to utter why hasn't he thrown it yet! For the Miami game, I just remember being soaked, Jacory Harris getting sacked a bunch of times and not having a voice for a couple days.
this is the game that really hooked me on vt football. i was living in bburg and rooted for tech but after that game i was in.
Enough said with that.
The stadium was just nuts for this game. We blew them out. And this happened:

Rushing the field after the 99 BC game after the undefeated season was one of my first and best VT memories. Being so close to the coaches and players that had just put VT on the map was incredible, even if sitting on the old wooden bleachers wasn't.
Oh, and that game gave us this image too:

I was on a road trip during this game. My dad and I almost wrecked the truck when we made that field goal!
In person:
2010 ACC Championship game. We had nose bleed seats with Hokie fans beside us and FSU fans in front and behind us. They talked trash the whole game and finally gave up with about 5 minutes left in the game. Seeing Tyrod play one of his best games ever was great.
Not in person:
Probably watching the Miami game with a bunch of church buddies. Total beat down. Most gratifying game I've ever seen.
The 2011 UVA game was pretty awesome too. I'm pretty sure I talked trash on twitter for the next 24 hours on twitter.
#12 Virginia Tech 16, #10/#9 Miami 10- I watched from the lounge in Pritchard on the old half broken tube tv with some HS friends as Royal broke a tackle on a dart from Randall for the game winning score. We went nuts in the lounge as Davis batted down the last passes to secure the win. Perhaps my fondest Freshman year memory was walking around campus afterwards, victory smoke in hand, listening to everyone in the Pritchard/New Res/O'Shag/Lee quad blasting Enter Sandman from their rooms celebrating the most improbable ACC Champion in quite sometime. I also remember watching some of the postgame celebration and seeing the lost look on Swofford's face.....loved it.

The WVU blocked kick was also the loudest I ever heard Lane and I think I went to nearly every home game (minus three) in my four years- including BC in 2007/2005, GT in 2005, and Maryland in 2004.
Also in this article:
Maybe once we land Aaron Moorehead, he can teach us what constitutes a TD catch in the Pac-12
And don't get me wrong. I think Harris will be one hell of a tailback at Virginia Tech. I watched a new batch of film, and he demonstrated versatility catching the ball, much more explosion from "I" formation sets to go with the film we have seen of him running from the one back. He looks like a clone of Brandon Ore, but more explosive between the tackles and more power. He defintely looks like a refined product. He could easily be a 20-25 carry a game starting running back for 2-3 years.
That being said, get your paperwork in kid. We have had a ton of very talented players enroll at Virginia Tech. Some were real knuckleheads. Yet, I can't remember a time when a major recruit didn't enroll because he didn't turn in a piece of paper. I mean, he wasn't major recruit, but BRANDON ORE got his paperwork in. It isn't exactly a high threshold.
I really needed that one. Maybe some "Bowie in space" next?
when we blocked the field goal. We still haven't let her live it down.
"the girl who committed suicide over the alleged sex assault by a football player" is in reference to this http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/she-the-people/wp/2012/12/04/why-i-w...
which I think everyone should read.
When Danny Coale caught the game-winning TD. If that wasn't a catch then I don't know what is.
They are choosing to forget the recent past when in 2003 they went 4-9, in 2004 6-6, and then broke through in 2005 going 10-2. Big turnarounds can happen they just are forgetting because of recent success.
I would love VT to get an awesome Tackle
I feel bad for all the average high school football players that are going to get owned by him.
I don't, but Fork Union is a football factory with signficant resources and experience to assist their players with completing work for admissions and clearinghouses. Virginia Tech's athletic department support services also do everything within their power to make sure players are eligible and complete all paper work. Non-athletes do not get that level of assistance at their own school. Forgive me if I am not empathetic, but to me, it is a major red flag that he isn't taking the privilege of a football scholarship to a highly regarded academic institution and football power seriously. If find it hard to believe that the HUGE support network is at fault.
As punishment, he can have fun being 24 rocking out at AGR parties by the time his football eligibility concludes.
1. 04 Western Michigan: it was my first home game and I remember marching out on the field as a Cadet and just being a part of the atmosphere, really cool.
2. 05 West VA: They are nuts there! first road game, very hostile environment against a rival, walked away with a W, good stuff.
3. Nebraska at Lane, just because VT is usually on the other side of those types of win, so to pull a W on that was nice, plus it was an out of conference (As mentioned before.. are nebraska fans some of the nicest fans you have seen?)
Getting revenge on BC is also good, and any time beating UVA is good, although I think the 07 UVA game stands out to me as they were actually somewhat good that year.
2004 was definitely up and down and I was fortunate enough to attend most of it. Was there for the 'pass interference' call against USC. Was there for the missed FG against NCSU. Was there for the WVU win and enjoyed the only time my feet were placed on Worsham field. Was there for our valiant, late, effort against Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.
But the best moment for me was one that I watched from Blacksburg as we traveled down to South Florida and beat #9 Miami to clinch our first ACC title. Friggin' sweet.
and got in too. His point still stands, in my book.
Is there any NCAA rule that says he needs a physical piece of paper that says he's a student? Almost everything to do with student status is electronic. They still send acceptance letters and whatnot, of course, but I imagine he can be enrolled and declared a full-time student completely online.
I also doubt campus will be closed tomorrow. The snow should stop reasonably early tonight and the roads should get plowed quickly, especially with so few people being here - very few cars need to be moved from being parked on streets.

In person: This is a tough one. I went to the Temple game in 2000. Saw Vick play. That was unforgettable. Game wasn't even close, but it was one of the times he jumped straight over a guy to score. Just watching him on the field was incredible. The last game I went to was UVA in 2010, however, my first time seeing us play the Hoos and of course a very satisfying experience. Some guys in my section were stomping on and pouring beer all over a Cavaliers hat and after the game at Hokie House everyone was in high spirits except for this one drunk Wahoo fan playing pool by himself. He looked so sad, and I was so delighted.
On TV/elsewhere: I thoroughly enjoyed BC round 2 in 07, as well as WVU 04, and a lot of others people have named. But I think my favorite was UVA in 2004. That was the year after they beat us and I was with relatives in Cville for Thanksgiving. Watched the first half with that long Pearman run and Jimmy Williams running him down from behind, then we left to go back to Blacksburg at halftime. We turned the radio on to the UVA guys (they were terrible) and as soon as we tuned in we hear "TOUCHDOWN VIRGINIA TOUCHDOWN WAHOOS." I'm a little ashamed to say we got so disgusted that we turned it off (couldn't find Roth) and drove the rest of the way without knowing what happened. We get down past Roanoke and turn it back on to find that Tech had not only won, but absolutely throttled their ass. 24-10. Beautiful. The Hoos did not beat us that day, nor have they since.
