I do think we match up very well against Bama defensively. The front four- esp. Luther Maddy and Skip Hopkins can win battles against the O-line and take away (okay, limit) their running success. Even if that happens, McCarron is vastly improved and may be able to beat us through the air but we know Bud can keep that in check.
I think its realistic to think the D can keep the Bama O in the mid-20s. Odds of our offense topping that on their own seem slim to none, but a Dyrell Roberts-like special teams big play and a defensive turnover short field situation could keep it close.
I love the #BEATBAMA stuff but hope it doesn't result in unrealistic game expectations...

Once again, great article. The film reviews are my favorite. Thanks to Billdozer and French for making them happen. My only concern is that yall have divulged too much...it worries me that so much detailed information about our defense is available to any D1 QB with internet access (which I'll wager is more than HALF of them!). I mean, what if Nova had stumbled across the Tweedy speed chart? In all seriousness though, great review. I'm excited about next season.

I'll be honest, after that UNC game I was pissed at our defensive line, they looked lazy and disinterested (when you couple that with the Pitt game). But they really came along and were the defense we all expected them to be by the end of the year. This defense will only get better next year.
I believe more than I believe anything about VTs football program this statement: frank Beamer wants Shane Beamer to be the next Head Coach at VT
And Frank the AD could never ever never ever hire Shane as HC. Never ever never.
He doesn't have the CEO polish of Osbourne or Alvarez at all. Frankly, he's not nearly qualified for that position. It's critically important to the whole university.
On a scale of 1-10 of probability of likelihood of any of these three moves:
Shane to OC: 1.5
Bud to HC: 1.0
Beamer to AD: -5.764563
On a more realistic note though, think his brother would come coach in Blacksburg? The Rams just let him go as a linebackers coach, maybe we could bring him in for something.
We actually did have some bright spots. But if Brown and Eddie keep going with this slump then the season's over. I don't know why either of them are so cold right now, it's very frustrating to watch. I feel bad for Erick, he's an unbelievable player and isn't getting the national credit he deserves.
Christian Beyer should start next game, he gives 100% effort on every single play. I say we start giving him more minutes because he plays so hard no matter what the score is, I love seeing players like that. He isn't supremely talented, but he does all the little things.

What I've heard is that Beamer IS READY to retire, but won't because that would leave the decision of who to make his successor up to Weaver, who will go out and make a cheap hire and fuck us beyond belief. What Beamer is trying to do is outlast Weaver to 2016 when Weaver is supposed to retire from AD and Beamer will take over the position. Of course, if that were to happen within the next couple of days, I would be perfectly content with that, but thats I've heard.
I've heard a similar rumor from who I consider a reliable source. Not the Shane OC, but everything else.
