Agree on all counts. I too have accepted a long time ago that with Beamer as HC this is VT football, whether you like it or not.
I haven't played or coached football but I do have NCAA 11 and I have played it quite a bit...I think I can put up 300 to 400 yards a game and blow even the top ten teams out by 40. (the key is to go with a 5 wide set and call the same play over and over again)
I like the uniforms from 2004-06...I was hoping solid maroon would come back!!

I've gotten to the point recently where I expect these early season losses and big game losses. The early season losses have become tiresome and, unfortunately, routine. I don't get mad anymore. Just turn the TV off and think to myself, "oh well, that happened again."
Yes, the coaching staff does an adequate job of getting the ship righted by as the season goes along, but that's not enough. The question I would like answered is - how is it other schools that are consistently in the top 10 are able to get a good start out of the box with similar or even more difficult schedules, yet Beamer & Co. seems to be unable to get past these early season games that should be gimmes.
The commentary that we should be happy with what we have is bullcrap, in honest opinion. When a coach utters that, it tells me that they're happy with where things are...and that spells trouble.
Bowden went 74-24 (64%)in 9 straight seasons and won 9 or more games in 4 seasons. Beamer has gone 81-30 (73%) over the last 9 season, 8 of which he won 10 or more games. That's the difference. Let me know when Beamer gets sub 70% in 9 cumulative seasons.
Do I think Beamer is better than Bowden? No. Do I think Beamer will eventually need to retire? Yes, but not with force. I have faith he will retire if things take an FSU or PSU turn.
I'm sure he hasn't seen anything to make him change his mind so far.

There has been a surprising lack of posting on here today. I figured this thread would be full of comments by now. Sure, we've had 2 sucky losses, but it's time to get fired up for UNC.
LET'S GO HOKIES!!!!!!
I must unfortunately disagree about Richmond. I would really prefer not to choose between the Hokies and my alma mater... My freshman year, the basketball teams played in Cassell and I refused to even look at the score online after the game.
And I really don't think Richmond would even consider playing VT. They are perfectly content to be the UVA home opener each year. Quite frankly, that's the only shot Richmond has at beating a FCS team. So they'll keep playing UVA. It's an easy, low cost trip for the Spiders and a lot of alumni go to the 'ville for that one. It's also easy to ship the students to. And the academic rivalry and preppy-wine-and-cheese similarities are there too. So I really don't see UR ever agreeing to play VT, when they have UVA.
Also, right now, I wouldn't expect Richmond's AD to be making any significant changes regarding the football schedule as he has a lot of other problems to deal with... He and the school administration just cut men's soccer and the track and field team in favor of men's lacrosse... woo hoo! Except not. But that's a whole other issue.
But it was an interesting thought. I had never even considered it until you mentioned UR. And I agree with everything else you said. As I said before, WVU is the top non conference game on my wish list. But I also agree about VMI. I think they be a great add as far as bringing tradition back. I'd much rather see a blowout game with someone we have a historical rivalry with (as opposed to Austin Peay... because who cares about AP?).
A bad memory for UNC.
I guess one of the reasons I went with this is it seemed like the division of the sports that would most cut down travel and costs for non revenue sports the most by geographically separating them. It still allows for rivalry games such as Tech v Miami and Tech v UVA and Pitt v Syracuse, FSU v Miami, and these days the budding FSU v Clemson Which other big rivalries do you feel suffer in this format?
What is the best way to motivate a player? Everyone is not the same and responds differently to the way criticism is delivered. CFB is not a big ego type coach so he cares more about not looking like an ass in public. He treats his players the same way since most or all are not big ego guys either. I think the big ego guys respond better to public humiliation than others and will step up their game.
There is no right or wrong way. You are either effective or you are not.
But I think we will be good for at least 24 points. It'll be another close, painful loss.
The NCAA was pretty swift with sanctions on Penn State. Why does every other investigation take so long?
How do you let go of your "family"? I think the current coaching staff has taken VT as far as it can go. I hope I am wrong but I think it has hit a plateau. It is a nice plateau and one most every college in the country would love to be on.
Is it a foundation or a peak?
The Big Ten tried to make it happen with the Pac-12, and I'm hoping B1G looks at the ACC to salvage what is a very good idea. The SEC and Big 12 are partnered up with the champions bowl, and my guess is their schools will start signing more home-and-homes. The Big Ten and ACC are both rooted in academics, and while the ACC hasn't been as nationally successful (recently), it's a pretty even matchup from the top down.
I think the ACC has established a good eastern and southern footprint and exposure in the middle of America would only benefit the league.
Their OOC schedule includes top 25 teams. Unless we get out of the FCS games and move up the competition we will get no respect.
Defender has his hands to the outside. If anything he is holding the offensive player. He is trying to fight through the block, gets double-teamed, can't contain, then gets buried by momentum.
