I realize many of these positions are thin. Some, like Safety, prosciutto type thin. Nonetheless, younger guys like Fuller have had decent playing time while maintaining a degree of success. At FS theres starting stud Eddie Whitley (a Sr.) backed up by Hopper ( a r-So) with one of the VAnDykes possibly coming in as a true frosh. Rover is of the most concern as our most senior guy is a r-So in Exum. These guys were responsible for much that beautiful turnover margin we obtained last year though. As well, Torian Gray is what I believe to be one of the most undervalued assistants in all of college football. Foster is so successful because of the help of guys like him. Lastly, if we handle the run D any better than last year the pressure will lax off the newbies in rotation. I may seem naieve here but equally so I believe in our staff to recognize talen, evaluate, and develop it.

fyi, Cole is a backup at Rover but is already impressing the shoes off Gray. The great thing about our coaches is that no B.S. Policy. They dole out praise when deserved as with Frank about LT and brutally honest observations with Wiles calling one of the boys a robot haha.

Could not have said it better myself. Keep an eye out for my up coming tailgate series as the season approaches.

wants the P job so bad hes even taking opportunity is the Senior Pic to stretch it out.

i finally understand now. that light coming from danny is a force field. that is why he is always open. hell, he's even wide open in this picture.

Is for Nick Acree to justify my excitement over his size (thats what she said). But I also feel for the guy, it seems like he's just trying too hard, which can almost be expected when a player has such a weak foundation in football.

I hope he can still have a good Senior season; should they consider Dyrell for a redshirt year/injury year? I know it would suck to not have The Straight Burner on kickoffs, but it seems like a disservice to split him/Coles for a handful of catches each this season. I guess that's the price you pay for a crowded, talented group.

You realize, they're all tangled in BDC's beard

personally. He is a great kid, humble and friendly; I hope he does well and can make an impact on the OL.

The depth chart is most certainly fluid. However, during his press conference Beamer implied there was nothing medically wrong with Dyrell so it's curious to me why he wouldn't be listed as one of the top four receivers. A couple of answers come to mind, either Davis and/or Coles had one hell of a spring and they passed him, it's motivation for Roberts or the coaches are easing him back into things. With the severity of his injury, and how long his recovery has been, my guess is for right now he isn't a top four guy.

be set how it is? Or is Roberts expected to get in the 4-deep again? I'd also like to see DJ take a red shirt year, but if hes cracking top 4, that'll never happen.

Probably wasn't coming in thinking QB but it seems he's taken on the role without hesitation. We always talk about developing players. What I love here is we didn't go out again and shop another 5* guy but knew we had one we could develop in LT. By God Cody Grimm was a walk on and look at him. The coaches talent to see potential in our players is as breathtaking as their ability to mold them.

But at BCS schools?? Did we bait and switch LT3 when we recruited him lol? I am sure it wasn't intentional, but fortunate nonetheless.

This is what happened to Boyce...via Washington Post

Virginia Tech WR Xavier Boyce indicted on felony child-endangerment charges
By Mark Giannotto

Virginia Tech wide receiver Xavier Boyce has been indicted by a grand jury on felony child-endangerment charges and faces an Oct. 25 court date, according to Montgomery County (Va.) Circuit Court records.

Boyce and his girlfriend, Angela Hutchins, were arrested on March 23 after an investigation by Blacksburg police. It was initiated by a call from the Department of Social Services when Boyce’s infant child suffered internal head injuries on Jan. 31.

The charges against Hutchins, the child’s mother, have been dropped. Boyce, a fourth-year junior, could face up to five years in prison if convicted of the Class 6 felony.

Boyce’s indictment means the grand jury felt there is enough evidence for a trial, and according to Virginia Tech’s student-athlete code of conduct, he will be suspended indefinitely from the football team until the felony charge is resolved. If convicted, or if he enters a no contest or guilty plea, the code of conduct states that Boyce would be permanently removed from the football team.

When asked about Boyce’s status with the team during the ACC Kickoff in Pinehurst, N.C. last week, Coach Frank Beamer would only say “it is up in the air” pending the outcome of the charge. Boyce did not participate in spring practice.

This, though, isn’t Boyce’s first run-in with the law since coming to Virginia Tech. In March 2009, he and three other then-freshmen were arrested for stealing two bicycles. Boyce received community service as punishment for that incident.

Boyce, a career backup who mostly contributed on special teams, had just two catches for 10 yards in 2010. In 25 career games, he started three times and caught 11 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.

It was unlikely Boyce would have played much on offense this year with returning seniors Jarrett Boykin, Danny Coale and Dyrell Roberts and redshirt junior Marcus Davis all ahead of him on the wide receiver depth chart.

Xavier Boyce??? he played some snaps last year i havent heard anything about him transfering or being hurt??
i thought i did here that the corey fuller transfered though??

After hearing over the last few days that Trey's dad was saying that his pick might surprise some folks, I was thinking that meant he was going to go with UNC. (Especially given Chapel Hill is closer to his home town than Blacksburg).

This is huge!! An amazing class of linebackers going to be stepping foot into Blacksburg next fall.
