Rumor has it Chesney was offered what would be tops in the league had he stayed.

My problem with the conversation regarding Miami and Notre Lame is pretty simple.

Miami beat the Irish head to head

If they are that close that should be an overwhelming factor

I'm gonna throw on the caveat that the committee does what the committee does, logic or fairness be damned. With that out of the way...

We're only going to have three conference champs in the top 12. I just don't see any of the others being able to jump that high in the rankings. That means that the cut-off for being an at-large team is the top 10. Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, and Texas Tech are all ranked high enough to stay in the top 10 with a loss today.

Miami is sitting at #12. Even if the loss drops BYU, that only gets Miami up to #11. At this point, their only hope would be Alabama getting completely blown out and losing multiple significant players to injury, and the committee forgetting that Alabama wears an SEC patch on their jersey.

Miami's biggest problem now is Notre Dame being ahead of them. While I don't necessarily agree with that ranking order, my opinion is that once rankings are set prior to the conference championship games, none of the idle teams can change their relative position to one another. There's no new data point this week that will allow Miami to jump over Notre Dame.

But the strategy was size and quantity more than quality. OL is the most developmental position so Franklins getting as many guys as possible to make up for the thin recruiting of the Crook years and hope some guys come out in the wash. The option was probably Cochrane or nobody, taking Cochrane is a plus over nobody.
