Per Beamerball.com
"Devin continues to have issues with his shoulder and will need surgery. At this point, we've recommended that he discontinue with his football. I think Devin understands that this is in his long term best interest and has accepted the fact that he will no longer be medically cleared to participate and will accept medical disqualification."

So ESPN just posted an article about ACC schools moving their Spring Practices up to earlier in the Spring, with some starting in February. The reason for many coaches is to give more time for injuries that occur to heal. Currently, we are the last to start Spring practices on March 24th. I can't say that we've had a Spring where something hasn't happened that has caused concern for the Fall and left a hole to fill during the Fall pre-season practices. With the construction of the new indoor practice facility, weather is far less of an issue, but space is. How would you feel if our team began practices at the beginning of March or even in February in an attempt to get them done sooner?

I just saw a write-up on ESPN about the great college basketball programs (like UNC, Duke, UCLA, etc.) and what their all-time best starting line-up would look like. After glancing over it, I immediately began to think about what the all-time starting lineup, in my mind, would be for Virginia Tech football. I'm relatively new to this site, so I have no idea if this has been discussed before, I just figured it'd be a good topic to discuss during this boring offseason.
Anyway, my line-up would look like (add in's are FB, and Nickel):

I just wanted to bring more attention to the fundraiser the football program is participating in called Hokies Helping Heroes.
The Virginia Tech football team is participating in a weightlifting challenge as part of a "Hokies Helping Heroes" initiative and inviting fans to pledge a certain amount of money per pound lifted in the bench press during the team's winter testing.

I'm trying to make some sense out of our current scholarship numbers. As of right now, we have 97-98 (is Hansen on scholarship), so that means 12-13 have to be moved, either by greyshirting, prep schools, or attrition.
Do we know who, besides Hoyt, is likely to greyshirt and who is likely going to prep?
How close are we going to get to 85 before we have to wish guys luck in their future?

First things first, a shout out. When I posted in the forums about a month ago regarding Michael Brewer's performance, I mentioned that Brewer had endured a lack of run support throughout the season. TKPer daveinop pointed out to me that when you factored out the rushing attempts of the QB, VT had averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2014, up from 3.6 in 2013. It was one of those moments where you slap your own forehead and exclaim, "Why didn't I think of that?!"
That got me thinking, how has VT's running game been doing in general when the QB contribution (positive or negative) has been factored out. And because I'm a nerd and it's the offseason, I fired up hokiesports.com and Excel.

I must say for as much as Mama Giraffe put me off the ACC blog, Andrea has done a good job bringing my interest back. I wouldn't say this is a very well researched article, in fact it only superficially broaches the topic of it's headline but it's well written and devoid of bias.

I guess it's not surprising that there is now and will be in future negative recruiting against Beamer given his age, but I would love to hear who the worst culprits are.

Antoine and Derrick Hopkins are hosting a clinic in Richmond, VA to help offensive and defensive linemen improve their skills at their positions. Very cool to see Hokies helping kids develop their abilities. A nice way to give back to the community and it can't hurt recruiting. If this catches on and becomes a regular thing, maybe the Hopkins brothers will be pointing some hog mollies Coach Searels' and Coach Wiles' way.

I told them, listen, I know you need to do what's best, and I realize that might not be keeping my scholarship.'
The school's response blew him away.
They said you've been with us this whole time,' Malek explained. Idaho is not leaving your side.
The thing that makes this interesting is that the Idaho coach is Paul Petrino....Bobby's brother.
