The Men's Team
I know I've usually been doing these things in 4 game batches, but the way the men's and women's schedules are set up, it just doesn't work out, so I'll have to do this edition a little bit early.
The men are a solid 3-0 after running through a very weak slate of opponents by an average of 89-62. On the way, CMY now sits tied for 10th among all VT coaches with 57 career wins with Branch Bocock (who was also busy coaching baseball and football for the Gobblers at the time).
The Ladies play Bucknell tonight on ACCNx at 7PM. This should be another tune-up game for the Hokies. Bucknell lost to St. Joseph's 66-49. The Bisons are a mature team starting 2 seniors, 2 juniors and a soph.
Their tallest starter is 6'2, senior Emma Shaffer, no. 52, who had 11 pts and 8 boards in their first game. Their other senior starter,5'8 guard Tai Johnson, no. 14, was 5 of 6 from the field and did not attempt a three. Shaffer, Johnson and #33 Julie Kulesza scored in double digits. I don't think they will do that well against the Hokies.
The team shot 37% overall and 33% from three on 5 of 15 shooting. They were out rebounded 29-27. And also had 17 turnovers. They did make 10 of 11 free throws.

Our 13th ranked Women Hokies start the season off at 5pm. We have preseason All American and numerous preseason All ACC players on the roster. This could be a great year. So get out and support or watch the games.
The Men's Team
It may not feel like it, with the borderline 80 degree weather here in the RVA, but it is time for Year 4 of CMYBall and our inaugural chance at defending an ACC tournament title.
Tipoff will be day number 240 and it still don't believe it.
Through three years, Mike Young has been amazing, amassing the 2nd most wins by any coach in their first 3 years, behind only Charlie Moir. Much like Moir, Young will be defending his first conference tournament championship after his third year.
Yet despite coming off an ACC title, and despite the graduations of a tremendous amount of production, we may actually be deeper and more talented than last year.

Around the 20 minute mark, when he's talking about the unofficial visit by Pedula. Absolutely love this guy. He's Frank Beamer with a roundball, and not one person will talk me out of believing that. So glad we got this guy. Excited for the season.
Of all the designs we've worn, this is certainly one of them.... Not really sure what to make of the design on the trim, is that supposed to be Hokie Tracks?
That said, I'm intrigued with the number font. Maybe a preview of football going with the 1999 design full time again next year?
Tech opens up this pre-Thanksgiving tournament against ODU, then would face the winner of Penn St-Furman in the semis. Not a very sexy field, but what can you do.
