Positive: I got to enjoy this game while being on TKP, the best damn Hokie Site out there. I saw more positive offensive output than I have since maybe the OSU game.

Negative: personal changes/groupings and turnovers.

I'm watching the game today.
The band is clear on TV, it wasn't there, though when the UT band played, it was loud and clear.

There were 3 bad snaps in the first series.
Also the tackle of Rogers on his first catch through the middle, it was all at the neck and above.
I noted that later in the game some too. Very close to being high tackles. I honestly thought this one was clearly high.

Not really. The fumbles that already happened, are mutually exclusive of the fumbles the future,* and thus don't have an impact on future fumbles. Second, there are only 12 games in the regular season (small sample size). Thus, even if VT averaged the average fumble rate from here on out, because it's only 10 games they average for the year will still be pretty high above the mean.

*It's true, that due the crazy amount of fumbles, the Hokies will work harder now on fumbling. Thus, fumbles are not completely mutually exclusive, but they are completely independent acts that, for the most part, do not have an impact on the other.

Poaitive - D is rolling. Looking pretty good the past 2 games. Offensive scheme shows glipses of something explosive layer.

Negatives- ball security...but I think everyone is gonna say that. Figuring out defined starters on the Oline...oh and ball security, did I say that?

My overall take on the game and this team: we have loads of talent but lack focus. So there's the pro and con.

I saw elements of a very effective offense. Tennessee has a good defense, and we moved the ball at will for stretches. We only had a couple of really, truly bad sequences, and most of those happened because we were behind the sticks on penalties.

If the guys can work out the composure/focus issues like hanging on to the ball, we will be excellent. There are few opportunities to work out the kinks, so a lot of learning better happen before BC comes to town. They should have another pretty good defense.

My on-the-field takes:

Can't speak for entering the stadium as I basically walked in and out at will. I did get harassed for badges/vests/passes several times on the way in but the security folks quickly figured out who was actually allowed on the field after the first attempts, kinda annoying to explain myself multiple times to different people. Plenty of room on the sidelines to work, though, much better than Lane.

On-field media operations were being run through a person in a UT polo (handing out passes/vests/whatever) so I assume BMS contracted some operations to UT organizations. I assume this was done elsewhere (play by play?), but I didn't really notice.

Didn't pay much attention to media timeout things, the sound system was not tuned to be heard from the field very well, lots of echoing, hard to understand and I tuned out quick.

Entrances were disappointing for both teams.

Vols getting fireworks and VT getting skipper was the plan from the start for each team scoring, didn't even think twice about it, to be frank. (The crew aimed the cannon right at the Vols side of the stadium, which I thought was a clever touch)

I was super happy it did not rain on us at midnight.

We hadn't given up when we were down 14. We were driving and about to score after Cam made a catch and gained 12 yards inside the red zone and fumbled the ball away. He was fighting for extra yards and the ball was popped loose. Those plays happen and are frustrating, but are no where near as bad as fumbles resulting from snaps and special teams errors. Recruiting is far bigger than one game. Especially when it's the 2nd game in a coaches career at a school. As far as national rep, we have been mediocre for a 4-5 years now. Even the average college football fan knows that. The national rep is set until we change the status quo. Nothing wrong with saying we looked bad last night because from an execution standpoint, we certainly did. But the offense moved the ball well when we weren't fumbling it away and the defense only gave up 330 yards of offense despite having their backs repeatedly placed against a wall. There are positives and negatives to draw from the game.
