Being snaps. VT needs to hire somebody to teach our coaches how to teach snapping the ball.
From Thomas' problems with constant high snaps to 4thdown QB, famously saving a safety. Fix this and the offense gets lots better.
Thanks for posting this thread. Despite the loss there's a lot of positives
from the game.

Players have to buy in. That is the key. Boston College is going to be a tough out. Very good D. Loeffler, for all the jokes, has a history of really good game plans when coaching against former colleagues.
Hate to play devil's advocate but the punting has been pretty bad thus far

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? I was laying in bed last night and managed to get over the loss fairly quickly.
Pro: like everyone has said, a capable offense. I feel good knowing the ability is there.
Con: Not the fumbles, but how we responded (which led to the fumbles). I don't know that I buy a systemic fumbling problem with Fuente's teams but I do buy that we have a mentality and focus issue that can lead to mistakes like fumbles and penalties.
I'm very anxious to see how this team responds to this. There were reports from players that VT didn't have a good week of practice. This reminds me of 2010 after the lost to JMU when seniors recognized there was an issue and they took it on themselves to address the issue. I'd love to see this kind of response, or any kind of positive response. The response to this week will show us more about the team than last night did.

Nigel Williams and Vinny Mihota were outstanding. Mook Reynolds was great with a handful of exceptions. Corners held up except for the 2 50/50 balls at Stroman where he played it as well as anyone could. Dobbs made perfect throws and then physics (those WR's were Bucky minus an inch or two) took over.
Negative- after the first fumble, and as the game progressed with more mistakes (and no touches to Hodges and limited touches for Ford) you could see the "buy-in" on the offensive system waning. Body language, eyes- just didn't look good. Tennessee was physically superior, but VT was beating the superiors with scheme, until turnovers and penalties creeped in. Linebacker and ally play in the 2nd and 3rd Q's were abysmal.

5 more wins to keep the bowl streak alive, I think we can do that much at least

Cons - ugh...ive never felt like we gave a game to an opponent more than this one and yes I watched the chickfila bowl against georgia

Negative: Another big stage loss in an pretty winnable matchup
The tune would be different if he had been able to jump and tip the ball to himself for an INT. That's why he jumped, trying to get a hand on the ball

Con: Basic ball security was awful. After the second fumble, there was a major attitude problem. The team seemed like it gave up and wasn't able to get focused for the rest of the game.

I still feel good about things. We can correct a lot of mistakes and turn this around.

Negative: It won't be soon. We will have growing pains and it's game #2 of the Fuente era. Offensive line and punting/special teams. Ugh.
Let's hope. And some get Cam a glove on a stick for goodness sake.

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? I was telling this to my family. There are two ways to get blown out in a football game. The first is to be ineffective on offense and defense. To just be thoroughly outplayed by the other team with little positive signs for the future.
The second is to play well, but to be undisciplined and make mental mistakes that take yourself out of the game.
We lost doing the latter. That's how Is rather see us lose. The future is bright, the offense looked good, I like Evans a lot. Shai has me real excited. He looked awesome. Travon looked like his old self as well. Splitting the carries between them two is the way to proceed I think.
Negative: discipline.
A thought for all those who are calling for more passes to ford and Bucky.
Realize that the opposing team has a say in what happens. If they take those players away it does no good to throw at them all night while they are double covered or just not open. If they had done that the Leal Reuters would be put in force calling for Motely to be put in because of all the interceptions that would have occurred. Instead we went with what the defense gave us. Pretty well I might add. Now I can understand asking why we didn't get another shot or two down field but other than that I thought the game was called really well. Everyone knows the issues from last night. It wasn't talent, or play calling or scheming or whatever. It was down right ball handling and discipline.
And as posted above this team was constantly able to love the ball. Our offenses in the past couldn't. UT didn't stop us we did.
