I think we are dancing around the same point.
I agree completely that there is apathy and disinterest. When asked about unification they are less concerned with it because they have less ties to it. However, my belief is that as that generation moves into the leadership they will be faced with the same issues as their parents. Just because they don't care, doesn't mean that crazy, fat kid over the wall doesn't. And so they will become more adept at handling that issue than their parents, because that apathy will distance them from the deeply rooted hate and afford them to approach it differently. I don't believe turning the cold shoulder or flat out dropping the issue of unification will ever be an option. And as North Korea becomes more desperate over the next, let's say, decade when the younger generation starts to move into leadership their hand will be forced to deal with it more than ever before.
Thanks for the link. I think the interpretation of what those stats are saying is a bit too interpretive but no doubt telling. I did a bit more reading on other articles and found this one as well, among many others: https://newrepublic.com/article/92781/korean-unification
And cringed when reading this bit:
At the Hyundai Heavy Industries plant in Ulsan, I chatted with a 28-year-old employee, who asked that I not use her name. She told me that she once agreed with her parents on the matter. "When I was in school, like junior high or elementary school, I thought, 'We have to have reunification, yeah!'" Upon entering the working world, though, she realized she had her own problems—and so did her country. South Korea already had too many destitute citizens who it couldn't support. Why did it need 24 million more? "I feel sometimes guilty, because the people up there are suffering," she said. "But they're not really my family. Why should I care?" She laughed, then paused. "Am I too selfish?"
perfectly exemplifies the apathy. But the point is not lost. If it does happen it will be a crazy, crazy burden. And if/when it does happen China and USA will be the biggest players there grabbing the economic booming of building the nation up.
Good win. Agree on Coach Wolff.
Thanks for the post and good luck ladies!
I put Miami in my Final Four and I hate myself.
I love basketball in March.
And there you have it no perfect brackets.
We may not end the day with any perfect brackets the way things are going.
And day 1 for the Hokies with Epperly crushing some poor fella from Bucknell 17-2 for the tech fall and the bonus points. I guess he wanted to prove he didn't really belong in the consolation bracket so early.
While Epperly's first round defeat and Dance's 2nd round defeat were certainly surprising and disappointing, this was still a good day for the Hokies. All 8 of our wrestlers will be continuing on to day 2 and four of them won both their matches to advance to the quarterfinals. Here's a brief summary of the results for all our guys.

Update: Day 1 is officially in the books and VT is tied with Iowa and Mizzou for 5th place. While the early losses were certainly disappointing, only Penn St., Okie St, Ohio State, Nebraska and Iowa have more quarterfinalists than we do. For a non-blueblood in this sport, that's not too shabby. Great job, Coach Dresser and team!
Pardon, could I get a little more #sauce for this comment?
Everything's delicious, by the way.
That's why he's my guy.
Loosey goosey. And, fashion-conscious.
She's doing an NIT bracket?
Louisiana schools might be completely shutting down. They might not make to the end of this semester. Post season had to do with money. Big news for Les Miles as it would make the football team ineligible for fall 2016. Not to hijack the thread, but reasons are political.
I'd say he shook it off pretty well. Won by technical fall (17-2) in the consolation round.
Epperly 17-2 victory in the consolation bracket. Great rebound effort there! Single leg takedown after single leg takedown. Still in good position for a top 5
You are like my mother. She always complains about the squeaky shoes when I watch basketball. At this point I don't even hear it anymore.
I'm glad you enjoyed the game. One day you'll be able to pay it forward too. Really enjoyed your thoughts, and judging by the upvotes, the rest of TKP did too. Selfishly, I look forward to reading similar thoughts from other TKPers because these type of posts — personal experiences involving Tech sports — are fantastic. I watched the game from my couch and now a little bit of me felt like I was there.
Lady Hokies managed a win 68-59 over Elon today. Next they travel to Ohio on Sunday at 2pm. Rachel Camp went crazy and scored 29 points, joined by three others in double digits in Magarity, Young and Cook. If you had told Coach Wolff at the beginning of the game that Panousis would go scoreless, he likely would have predicted a loss coming on. UVA, GT and Wake also advanced in the Womens side.
Ladies beat Elon 68-59 and will now head to Ohio on Sunday for a 2pm tip.
Circumstances change. Just because he felt it was right to come to Tech two years ago doesn't mean he is required to feel that same way now. I'm willing to bet a good % of TKPers have left at least one job in their lives < 2 years after starting. I'm hoping he stays for at least a few more seasons but I certainly am not going to hold a grudge against him or think lesser of him as a human being if he decides leaving is the right decision.
Sorry, they don't do that in NCAA's. I guess that's why the SEC doesn't participate.
At least Walz scored some bonus points to finish off our 2nd round with a Major Decision. I see 4 of 8 Hokies advanced to the quarterfinals, which is still better than average. (Only 1 in 4 wrestlers get this far overall) Chishko, Brascetta, Zavatsky and Walz are still alive in the Championship bracket and the other 4 are still alive in the Consolation Bracket. As long as there are no more unexpected losses, Tech could still finish the tournament in the upper echelon and get a few All Americans in the process.
Luckily the officials saw one of them! And called it

Hey, we just beat Princeton, so let's just enjoy the win and.....

It's been a rough 2nd round that's for sure.

I was stupid and switched my pick to Purdue after reading UA-LR's coach broke his hand on a white board in the conference tournament. Apparently whiteboards will get after ya.
