My dad went to Hampton, so I can legitimately pull for them instead of merely (yet justifiably) pulling against Hooville.
Any realistic chance of making a run for it all with the Epperly loss? I know if things broke right, there could have been a chance before....
Now we will see if Epperly can shake off the disappointing loss and fight for twam points and an All American spot in the consolation bracket.
Hokie wrestler's performances in consolations could be the difference between a top 5 team finish and a top 10 or worse finish.
Poor Rutgers. They qualified at all 10 weights, but only 3 of their guys won in the first round.
And Walz wins 5-2, finishing the first round for the good guys. 7-1 with bonus points for one fall isn't a bad way to start the tourney. While the Epperly loss was disappointing, he should be able to do some damage in the consolation bracket.
Exactly. Greenberg's teams relied a lot on guards and wings to create offense, and it tended to be a lot of isolations so the game could get bogged down in letting one guy work while others stood around.
But as far as fan support, the crowds were pretty much always there for those Hokie teams.
Meh... Worth it to see UVa humiliated by the #16 seed.
Haught wins 6-2. Showed a great surge in the third period to secure the win. Conditioning looked like it came in to play.

I like supporting ACC teams in the tournament which pretty much means I need to root for Syracuse to go to the final four because I really don't want to see MSU or LOLUVA from that region

Another awesome moment I forgot to mention was that before the opening tip, Enter Sandman was played all the way through to the chorus, and the whole crowd was singing along....EXIT LIGHT, ENTER NIGHT. Loud volume, scary song, lots of jumping. I figured in that moment the Princeton kids were wondering what in the heck they had gotten themselves into. In fact, while they were still in the huddle, several of the players looked over towards the student section when they started jumping with this WHOA look on their faces. Priceless.
I agree with what you said. I went to several games during the Greenberg era with my Dad and Cassell was almost always packed and the student section was full. I can only remember a game or two when it wasn't, and those were during winter break and a snow storm respectively. Granted Buzz does/will instill more energy than Greenberg did, but that's just a difference in personalities. The Greenberg teams weren't as fun to watch as this Buzz team is, but by no means were they boring or unexciting.
I am assuming that, at some point in the future, there will be a 16 seed that beats a 1. I can't even express in words how glorious it would be if that 1 was LOLUVA.
Also, Izzo's teams always play well in the tournament. I'd bet serious money on LOLUVA not making it out of their region. It might not come to Michigan State, but if both teams make it to the Elite 8, I'll take Michigan State every time

Zavatsky wins his first round match 8-3. Hokies are 5-1 so far with 2 more wrestlers (Haught and Walz) yet to go.
(edit: oops, 9-3, as macho says. I must've missed the riding time point)
Zavatsky with a 9-3 win. Couldn't pull off the last takedown for bonus points.
