So the debate is really: (1) did he have control? (2) did he lose control? - The ball is allowed to move.

The NCAA rules never define control. Is control having the ball in your hands the entire time. Is control something more? We know control is allowed "slight movement." When does movement become more than "slight movement"? I don't think Refs truly know. I think most people here argue he didn't have control. But, I don't see how a ball can be in your hands the entire time and not be in control. Definitely arguable and both arguments valid.

It's not calling plays that's the hard part.

The hard part is designing an offense that flows together, so that the defense can't know what's coming based on formation/personnel/down&distance. That is Loeffler's main problem. He has a vanilla run game that is quite predictable.

Maybe, but the commentator even said he thought it would be overturned just as they announced it wouldn't.

I like where your thoughts are coming from, but it seems that the Worsham family has done very much for the school and that the name should remain the same.

What? Look around. This is the era of offense. What we are going through is inexcusable.

I'm with ya. But one could also say that when judged against expectations going in, the VT offense outperformed UNC's offense.

The Best Fans in the Country will takeover Lane North in force, this coming Saturday. Make it happen, and let's win out for Frank!

I think people are putting way too much stock into the turnovers, most of which were gifts. The vast majority of this game the defense came up WAY short in my book. Surprised so many think it was such a good game for them.

It probably wasn't their worst game of the season but they absolutely didn't have a performance to be proud of.

2 min drill: lets start with a veer to Rogers.

Hey, we are an I--Formation team today! That's new.

Edit: additional point-- as bad as Loeffler was as an OC today, he was worse as a QB coach. His QB had no idea where to go with the ball on check downs. UNC plays a shell, your first look very well may be covered. Be ready for it, check down

Maybe playcalling is just a lot harder than it seems. Stinespring struggled with it. O'Cain struggled with it. Loeffler struggles with it. Have we ever had a consistently dialed in playcaller before?

No doubt there's bias in what I said. However I'm going to stay firm on this because their offense has been good this year and in the past. It could have just been an off day for them but they're offense passes the eye test. Our offense has been terrible for years and has been inconsistent for years.

What I saw out of UNC's offense today was abnormal for UNC at least in terms of yardage and points scored.
What I saw out of the VT offense was what we always see: missed opportunities due to poor execution, penalties, etc.

I will give UNC's defense some credit, though. They are a much improved unit with Chizik and they played hard and made some great plays.

But in this game (and pretty much every game) if we save one of our bullets for the opposing defense instead of our own feet, we win.

Thank you. I was starting to think I was crazy. This D doesn't get a pass from me.

The sad reality is that no one does, not even the refs.

This was a case of it was clear the ball was moving and not overturning ends the game... ESPN was champing at the bit to switch away and probably whispering in the reviewers ear. The ESPN guy was talking to the ref's on the field the entire fourth quarter.

This exact thought occurred to me a few minutes ago. UNC has a good defense, and they made good plays in overtime maybe. If Leofflers (sp?) play calls had worked, we wouldn't be pissed about it. Sometimes you get out executed. Its tough to accept but true.

Would Bud get to keep all of his kids on his side of the ball? I understand swapping a kid over who isn't making a difference, but not fielding an OL should not be Bud's problem

I don't know what a catch is anymore. I didn't when Coale caught it. I didn't when Beckham had that call go against him last Sunday. I don't now.

Still, thank you Frank. This game changes nothing of the memories that I will forever cherish because of you. Now, hopefully we can go and kick UVA's ass one more time for Frank.

For Reference:

ARTICLE 3. a. To catch a ball means that a player:
1. Secures control of a live ball in flight with his hands or arms before the
ball touches the ground, and
2. Touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then
3. Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act
common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it,
avoid or ward off an opponent, etc., and
4. Satisfies paragraphs b, c, and d below.
b. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact
by an opponent) he must maintain complete and continuous control of the ball
throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or in
the end zone. This is also required for a player attempting to make a catch at the
sideline and going to the ground out of bounds. If he loses control of the ball which
then touches the ground before he regains control, it is not a catch. If he regains
control inbounds prior to the ball touching the ground it is a catch.
c. If the player loses control of the ball while simultaneously touching the ground
with any part of his body, or if there is doubt that the acts were simultaneous, it is
not a catch. If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball, even
if it touches the ground, will not be considered loss of possession; he must lose
control of the ball in order for there to be a loss of possession.

2015 NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations

This is a defense that let Hood walk UNTOUCHED into the endzone, TWICE. They are not blameless.

I'm with you on the Defense today. I've never seen receivers running so wide open in the middle of the field. WTH was going on with those routes? And Hood absolutely ran through us in the 2nd Half.

I don't give the D a pass today. Looking at the season as a whole, they have been about as inconsistent as the offense. Not quite, but close.

I swear Loeffler must wear panties!!! After having to be aggressive to tie the game, he went right back to his sugar coated mess. He is the worst hire in VT history. He plays primarily two receivers and lets the defense dictate what he calls. He has no idea how to manipulate a defense. We could have played pitch and catch all day. Keeps the defense on the field too long!!! His football IQ does not impress me. One more game with his pathetic ass!!! Poof be gone!!!

Im sorry...Fuck you Ron Cherry for being an ACC ass hole mother fucker. Why end the game on a questionable call. Fuck that shit. Fuck. Sighs.
