I'm well aware of the importance of recruiting. But given the fact that I have absolutely no control over what the people in this process do, I'm perfectly happy to accept that it will be what it will be. If I had a hand in the matter, it might mean more to me, but right now, we, as fans, get the hand we're dealt with regards to the team each season while the coaches do their work and the recruits go whatever direction they want. There's no formula to success or silver bullet to pull in every recruit we want. So continue to let recruiting and what high school kids choose to do with their lives bother you if that's what you like to do. I'll focus on more important things.
We still have time for some of those 3 stars to show their true talent and move up to 4 maybe...

Then I'm sure its a coincidence that LSU, FSU, BAMA, OSU, USC, and UGA all have top 10 classes right now. That's meaningless this far out, what do those schools know about recruiting well. Even lower ranked classes like Auburn and Clemson have very high average recruiting rating and will probably end up top 10. Kids may flip around, but entire classes aren't going to fluctuate that much at this point in the recruiting season

Don't you just hate it when these young coaches at top programs that keeping getting into the playoffs get these kids. It's too bad the only factor in recruiting is age of HC and winning NC.
Because they aren't committed and nothing is binding until their signature is on paper. Nearly half of all kids in the top 100 on 247 are uncommitted. And if last year's signing day is any indication, a commitment means nothing. The shear number of recruits who flipped commitments is a sign that everybody is looking for who can give them something better than someone else at all times during the process. Whether that is more playing time, a more direct route to the NFL, or just the fact that the coach is no longer talking to them as much as they used to. Not to mention how many kids find out that their spot is no longer available at the school they committed to. Recruiting is about how you close at the end of the process, not this far out.
And the sweatband up the forearm. You never know when you'll need that.

I think recruiting is always a concern and should be.
I know people hate to say it and hate to admit it but stars actually do matter.
Let me have a top 20 class for three years in a row with 2 five-star guys, and 12 four-star all three years, and you take your 20 three-star and 2 four-star guys all three years and we will see where we are in the end.
Right now out of the top 20 teams in the country, 13 of them have had a top 20 recruiting class the last three years according to Rivals rankings. (and I am not counting Oregon and Ol Miss b/c they only had a top 20 recruiting class 2 of the last 3)
Recruiting matters - for the future, for depth, and state of our program. So yes, to me it is a concern.
we have 18 year old kids playing major minutes for us this year, maybe you should care. Sorry you aren't forward thinking enough to realize that recruiting is the lifeblood of a program.
I don't expect great recruiting classes until Beamer retires, his age is just too big of a hurdle. That said, taking a class of VT scouted 3*'s isn't a bad thing. We still proved to be at the top of the game in talent evaluation, as witnessed by many of our early offers piling up offers through the later eval periods.
I'm excited about our WR commitments and we are one Landon Dickerson away from a very good OL class (back to back with last years). I'm not encouraged with our DE and LB recruiting, but that's been a problem for a few years. Look for us to add a few more at those positions, even if they aren't highly ranked.

Considering that most kids in a class will either be committed or highly interested in a school 5 months before signing day, I don't know how you can say it just doesn't matter.
Actually I don't care what 18 year old kids are doing 5 months before they sign anything binding because it just doesn't matter. Worrying about recruiting is for the coaches. But it's okay knawaz, just continue the condescension towards anyone who is less concerned than you are on any matter.

Agreed if you aren't in the top group you aren't going to land them anyways. Just hope we can get over the hump and quit getting silver medals.

I have some faith that we'll pick up a top guy or two. I mean Clark, Settle and Lawson were all out of our reach at this point last year too

Nobody is saying that. If the class ends up like this, then yeah, people might be worried. But there are a few points being brought up that make it not worrying quite yet:
1) We're 5 months out, and at this time last year didn't have our top 3 recruits yet either
2) Kids flip constantly. They're kids. Just because someone committed doesn't mean they're a lock
3) We're 5 months out, star ratings can change a lot in that time, we might already have a 4* or two
4) We're talking about the minds of 17/18 year olds and worrying can take years off your life...relax
There's legitimate reasons to not be overly worried yet. When you're condescending to everyone who isn't as unreasonably pessimistic as you it brings down the level of discourse considerably
