To be fair to Frye, Alexander wasn't exactly having to cover Braxton Miller on Saturday.
But I'm really excited about Alexander's upside, and at some point this year I think he'll become the starter.

# | QBs Brenden Motley, Dwayne Lawson Strut Their Stuff, Hokies' Offense Roasts Furman 42-3 Well, ideally I'd just like to see our OL be good enough to not have our QB get pressured, whoever it is. So far, they're doing a much better job of that. Obviously we'll see what kind of pocket presence Motley has as the level of competition improves. I'm hoping outings like he had against Furman give him the confidence to remain committed to the pass under pressure.
As for the receiver being covered, one thing I've noticed so far this season is Lefty's route design is getting a receiver open on just about every attempt. So hopefully we don't see Motley trying to thread the needle into coverage too much this season. If he does, he's probably making bad reads in his progressions.
I live very close to I-77 in NC and frequently travel the stretch between Wytheville and Charlotte. I-77 is the funnel for Ohioans and western PA'ers going down south. It is constantly choked with Ohio and PA plates. It's baffling how many you see.

I have a few friends that went to med school, and a few others that didn't make it. One of the comments I have heard from all is that gaps in education (i.e. time not spent in consecutive years of schooling, or at minimum, getting meaningful medical/research experience) hurt their applications or the applications of people they knew. I'm hoping Brandon has good advisors (in and out of football) that will tell him the reality of the decision he would face. If he jumps ship to the NFL to make some money, given what I have heard, that will not be good for his future as a doctor. Anyone else with more insight able to comment? I'm the wrong kind of doctor to really know about this, aside from what I've heard.

Saw him on sideline for cheers.
I look for him to point him out to my little girls and he's been around the whole game both times.

No way the percentage stays that high over the season, but given that we've played both the best and the worst teams on our schedule, it probably isn't a completely bogus stat either.
42-3? Virginia Tech gave Furman quite a paladin.

He was actually making the right decision on every single one of those throws, but he was getting them off WAY too late. Instead of throwing the ball when the receiver made the break (ball would get to the receiver by the time he looked around), he waited till the receiver broke, ran a few steps, THEN threw the ball. The receivers were open, he just got them off too late. That changed in the second half.

This is actually a very smart play.. I know it looks stupid, but it was very smart. Completely sealed the deal for the win and prevented ECU of having any crazy chance of getting the ball back.
Can confirm the Hokie Bird was in the SEZ as well. Can't recall the timing but I was still happy so it must've been before Brewer went out.
I would like to see from our team:
-A blocked kick, doesn't matter what type, but return it for a TD
-A special teams score or two
-A shut out
-A pick-6
-A whole lotta sacks
-No turnovers by us
-And I would like to see A.J. Hughes stay on the sideline except when holding for extra points

Looks very explosive. Seems to be getting all of his runs (for the most part) on sweeps or tosses to the outside. Would like to see how he does getting 10 carries with some up the gut.

EDIT: Scratch that about the professors, they were principals in Dubai. Not sure what to expect financially with respect to that.

Am I right in thinking that a package play is the extreme version of a read? But instead of deciding whether to hand the ball off or keep it based on a read, the QB is reading the defense whether to run a zone read or a play action pass? If that's the case, in the above example of there being unblocked defenders on the run, did Motley make the wrong read on the package play and should have instead committed to the passing option?
Also wanted to add, one of my favorite parts of the clip of Bucky's big gain was seeing Cam Phillips come in looking to make a downfield block. Burden is changing the culture of the receivers, and it seems Cam has really bought into it. He had some stumbles, with what may or may not have been a ticky-tack offensive PI call (fricking ESPN3 cameramen), but that just tells me he's trying. And ALL our receivers are running backs once they have the ball, looking to make defenders miss and pick up as much YAC as they can. Excellent to see.

Long time since our defense gave up so many repeated plays for good gains around the ends, i.e. end sweeps and option plays. Normal support players weren't there to extend the line coverage, such as linebackers, safeties, rovers, etc. Are we running a different defensive scheme or were they pulled away covering other responsibilities?
often times underthrown balls can result in a PI call that will move the offense and give us a fresh set of downs. I don't think underthrowing a deep route to a receiver who has a step on 3rd and long is a bad idea. Worst case scenario the DB makes a great play on the ball and it's effectively an arm punt. Best case scenario the receiver is able to wrestle it from the DB and get the first down. Most likely outcome is incomplete pass which is equivalent to the overthrown ball. The chance to get that PI is worth an underthrow IMO
