yes, but you get to tell these kind of stories and claim the "walking barefoot in the snow to school, uphill both ways" award. You can't put a price on that.
Did anybody see what bowl UVA was in? I couldn't find them anywhere.
Love it! That's why I always quote my favorite line from our fight song: "With winning hopes we fear defeat no longer". Not afraid to cheer hard even in the face of defeat. Labor Day is gonna be fun. It will be a barometer of sorts for this team. We have nothing to lose.... Which is probably when the Hokies are at their best! GO HOKIES!
2 SEC teams in the playoff? Highly unlikely.

Yes, yes, 1000x yes. Best trip I went on my during my tenure. Trips are fun no matter what though. Usually, the Tubas spread out during a lunch break and end up going into the other busses and do their business to make everyone else miserable for the remainder of the trip. Always follow the rule of the 3 P's while on the bus. No Pooping, No Puking, and No Perfumes.
Our bowl tie ins are as follows:
1 - Orange
1a. - If Orange is in playoff, Fiesta or Peach
2 - Russell Athletic
3 - Music City - Belk - Pinstripe - Sun
4 - Quick Lane - Military - Independence - St. Pete
Notre Dame gets to take one of these spots.
Fair enough. But I think as destinations go, "New Orleans" >> "Shreveport" every day, and twice on New Year's. Our per diem was small, one way or the other, but then again, I'm talking about a trip in 1984. Where did 30 years go?
(And I didn't mention the percussion bus having a failed bathroom for the entire ride home. It gets right cold on a bus in late December when you're riding with the windows open on the interstate.)
One would assume that with the rest of that stuff, you'd scale back on Playstation. NOOOOOPE. He just never slept.
The sports leader is especially good at stirring up controversy to get ratings during the off season. The topic of discipline for student athletes is controversial to begin with. Trying to make Bud look bad for his attempts at discipline is out of bounds. What should be the right approach? Every school in the country is dealing with this and there is no consensus. Never has been and never will.
Nope. They're both SEC West. So Auburn wouldn't even play in a championship, yet still gets taken over the ACC and Pac-12.
In fact, took a bus from Richmond to New Orleans. Apparently it was cheaper to bus us that year and give more per diem than to just fly us. And yes, good times were had by all.
Once again, other things ol' Stewie says makes me question his opinion of us. Again with the A&M hype (which as someone who roots for A&M also, I simply don't buy), and then he throws in a second team from the same division to also make the playoff instead of his predicted ACC or Pac-12 champ (which should have been USC).

Looking at he and Feldman's picks... It's like a designed point/counter point, instead of actual prognostics/picks. If you want to hear something, you can find one who agrees with you. Pretty cynical.
Kind of odd he picked two SEC West teams for the playoff...i don't see any way a selection committee selects a non-conference champ for the playoff. As far as the Hokies winning the ACC and headed to the Fiesta Bowl? I'll happily climb on that hype train.
I'll drop some facts-> for our football team out of the 70 full ride scholarship players 37 of them have a part time job in our athletics department.
These jobs vary from- being tutors themselves, ticketing for game nights, working with the intramural programs as refs/coordinators.
Our jobs are to work with these individuals not everyone has the same situation. We want to make these kids successful in the classroom on the field and still be able to be a teenager/young adult.
Notre Dame should be disappointed if they don't get a NY6 game. They have elite talent at several positions (Fuller, Stanly, Smith) and the starting lineup consists of experienced upper classmen. This is a big year for Kelly
She seems pretty high on Duke. I know we lost to them once but that's another team that I don't think we should ever lose to. Yes they have improved tremendously since we joined the ACC but once Cutcliffe leaves I don't know how they continue on that path. Will they be a dangerous team? Sure, but with the outlook for this years team at this phase I don't think they match up at all with us. She doesn't really seem to point to any glaring concerns at all. She seems to believe that they'll be fine no matter who they are replacing and who they lost. Maybe it's just me.
What should the school do if a student athlete is misusing their stipend? Things like buying alcohol or worse, especially if underage. Are alcohol & entertainment part of the cost of attendance?
There will be a lot of discussion of stipends because it is new. Don't like how M&Ms piled on Bud. He is not the only one having to deal with this and likely not the only one with the same ideas about discipline. Based on the attention they gave him he must be a celebrity! He is big time if he gets all this attention. It is only a positive.
Since many of us are in favor of Fines let's keep them but be fair. Coaches are going to be included

I don't see two SEC teams in the playoff barring absolute chaos. And I don't know how the bowl selection process works for conference champions displaced by their contract bowl hosting a playoff game, but I would bet if we win the ACC, the Peach Bowl would do anything in their power to get us. First off just from the proximity of our school and fan base, the fact that we've shown out well there before, and there is somewhat of a contractual relationship already with the ACC SEC kickoff being hosted there by Chick-Fil-A.
PLEASE don't get me started. The fact that you guys fly to some bowl games now, and actually get freebies from the bowl? Arrrrrgh. We got per diem, I do remember that, but that was about it. Ever ridden in a bus from Blacksburg to Shreveport, La? No. No, of course you haven't. (It makes for some serious unit bonding, and some good stories years later, though.)
