Yeah, it's not a bad drive at all. Nice little drive on 23 and 35 south out of Columbus, hit the WV turnpike in Charleston and take 460 the rest of the way into Blacksburg near Princeton, WV. Only about a 5-5.5 hr drive. The only places you really encounter any significant traffic are around Charleston and a little near Beckley.
I enjoy the fact that every Buckeye car traveling from Ohio will be forced to pay $12 rountrip to the state of West Virginia, though.
The big difference is that player pay has been a huge discussion the past couple years. A coach getting drunk at a fundraiser is different than trying to take money from a group working for free while making an organization millions.

# | Virginia Tech Defensive Media Session: A very newsworthy chat with Bud Foster Without revealing too much, there was some evidence that we saw (and probably weren't supposed to see) that indicated fines were being considered. That's why the very first question asked pertained to fines, etc.
All we did was get drunk on the job, or lied about our qualifications, or cheat on the wife while on the university's dime, but at least we didn't answer a question about thinking about exploring the possibility of adding the fining of players for bad behavior on and off the field to already existing punishment.

The difference in the "Lie" I alluded to above and the lies you stated here are that your lies can't be proven they are lies until the kid is committed and already attached to the program, hence why its so easy for recruiters to make those promises. Its all about getting a kid to commit as quickly as possible. Once they spend some time on campus and dedicate themselves to practice, they'll become attached to the university. Of course, not every 18 year old correctly identifies where they want to spend the next 4 years on the first try and some do figure out the lies; enter transfer.
Take the school name off the uniforms and all the pageantry and passion we have for college football would be gone. I have zero doubt about that.

They are getting something in return for their services but they are certainly not getting paid. I can't stand the argument of, "well hey they're getting an education, how could they complain?". Because, if your skills in the marketplace should garner a $100K salary, but you're getting $1K instead, you'd likely have an issue with it.
The flip side is they don't have to choose to come play football in exchange for an education; however, it still doesn't make the current system right.

these are all valid points. I will say, though, that our offense was supposed to be much improved last year too and it was relatively status quo. I am expecting our offense to improve this year, but I'm not counting on being able to drop 45 points on a team like ECU. They don't have Bud Foster but they're no slouch either. They have always played us tough. It will be interesting to see what their style of offense will be without their QB. I suspect they will run it more than they'd like to. IF they find success on the ground (I sincerely hope not and I personally doubt they will) that could factor into us having less opportunities offensively. This game could go all kinds of ways. It could be a one-sided blowout, a shoot-out, or a punt-fest. If I had to bet on one of those three I would go with punt fest purely based on how we've performed both defensively and offensively in recent years.

by the way, they offer this up at Mountain Lake Resort. $50/person for two hours I think. They do it in a field though (not hardwood, eeek) and they said once the weather starts getting iffy, they're going to stop. So...for those of you looking to do something stupid fun labor day weekend before Monday, there ya go.

I mean the head ball coach at USC got wasted, gave a very inappropriate speech and the media only talked about it for like a day and a half with the intend to smear him as a raging alcoholic who needs rehab.
I give this a day in the media but a feather in the hat for a while for other schools to use in recruiting.
but any game inside Lane is special.

I think in theory, it was a reasonable way to get these guys' attention. Just like anything else, you want to hit them were it hurts but for the student athletes, that may not be the best way to go about it. It sounded like it was more of an idea than a current practice though.
I'd say fuck the reporter who started this line of questioning... hopefully not TKP. If we haven't treated the players properly I'd like to think you could take the line of inquiry non-public.
Time to revoke a press credential or two.
Someone will have to squeegee up all those tears so people can play tennis the following day
