IMHO, If they Took away 6 points for Every Time Someone was called for a Spearing Penalty or Hit to the Head....I bet Football would be a Heck of a Game. And Clean too. Or give three points for a TACKLE using both arms wrapped around causing a Tackle...Now That's some Football there.
I understand what you're saying.
What I'm saying is if you don't utilize the same revenue streams as the programs you compete with, to the extent that those programs do, then you can't complain that you don't have as much money as they do.
+1,000 for suggesting the return of the Goodbye Song.... this used to be awesome.
#8...colored helmet gashes...awesome.
What a cute koala! They don't have those in New York...is it a southern animal?
What stands out? The red numbers. Don't know if it contributes to the overall point, but I noticed that the top producing football schools (from this season, such as tOSU, AU, FSU, MSU, OSU, TAMU, etc.) mostly seemed to take a cut of $10 Mil or more from 11-12 to 12-13. Is that economy? Revenue sharing? Investing in what they need for success? Does VT's -($800k) represent hiring new coaches in off-season last January?
Try all the delicacies of VT food...then get to work on making some $
Honestly, I am not that concerned when Beamer leaves. Of course a little, but he has an 8 year appointment as assistant to the AD, or whatever it is called, so that he can help ensure the program transitions successfully. That gives me comfort. If Bud isn't made HC then they will find someone that has the right values for VT. I think it is 99.99% unlikely any sub-par character like Petrino at Louisville will be hired.
Yeah but why saddle all of the students with an extra 450 when there are a lot of students who do not care about athletics at VT? Maybe the ones who actually go to games, charge them, I don't know.
Arkansas and Louisville have large corporate donors (W-M and Papa Johns) to help their bottom line. I'm sure Stanford has some $$$ alum as well. Iowa is a large state school. Im not sure about MN.
+1000 to you sir
So pumped to watch this guy play in Blacksburg. #BEASTMODE2.0
The Steelers took Landry Jones last year in the 4th round to "groom as a backup" but god damn I would love if they took Logan.
Wait, why is LT practicing at the UVa spring game?
The Bucs? If they take Logan Thomas, it won't be to groom him as a back-up.
Sorry. I misread your post. I hope you are right and Beamer stays with us at least until 2016. He put together a great coaching staff last year and now part of it is gone. I am worried that this will discourage Beamer and lead him to leave us sooner rather than later.
I hope you are right and he can find a good replacement for Grimes. I am concerned that once Beamer leaves, VT football will be very vulnerable.
You make frank sound like some mystical shamanjedimonk. I can't say you're wrong either.
The rockidr4/@thecapncool guide to being an athletic director:
1. Go check on the XC team.
They work real hard, and probably have to beg the school for enough money to buy shoes.
2. Buy Donuts
I have been hired to come work in Blacksburg. Blacksburg has Carol Lee's. I'm going to eat Carol Lee's.
3. Eat donuts
C'mon, I have donuts.
4. Print one maroon effect and one orange effect shirt in every size for each seat in Lane Stadium.
We're gonna need some t-shirts
5. Print one "Stick it in stick it in stick it in" t-shirt in every size for each seat in Lane Stadium.
We really gonna need some t-shirts.
6. Sell advertising on white out shirts, one in every bluedie bloo in blahdy blah.
I'm not kidding, t-shirts.
7. You get maroon pants. You get maroon pants. EVERYBODY GET'S MAROON PANTS!!!
Now you can have all of the joys of watching VT play in #AllMaroonEverything while wearing #AllMaroonEverything
8. Only buy one set of helmets for the entire year.
Citation to my next door neighbor for this one. It's going to be orange for the base plasic, wait shut up, don't hate me yet, I'm not done. The paint will be maroon.
"Fucking what is he doing"
Think about the helmet gashes. Our boys fighting the good fight down there in the trenches will have the most magnificent helmet gashes in the history of little plastic hats.
9. Nike Pro Combat Jerseys
Gonna talk to NIKE about getting some sweet jerseys. They can have the nike logo extra big so that we can lower the cost a bit.
10. Present all of these really fun and cool things that I've done.
We need money.
11. Put up great stands around the track
We have an Olympic class track. Let's give people some more places to look at people doing stuff on the Olympic class track.
12. Get some really cool and exciting meets to happen on the track
If Boston University can get Galen Rupp on their track setting an American Record, Virginia Tech can draw in some really cool stuff. We can bring our atmosphere. We can cheer for people. We can get amped about people running really fast. I believe in us.
13. Declare pie the official dessert of the university
Mmmm. Pie.
14. Go back on my word and bring VT into the modern #TeamCookie era
#LunchPailDessert
No. I said, Beamer IS legit. As in not going anywhere. Grimes has no bearing on his decision.
My main point is that this is exactly the type of everyday theme on TSL that I didn't like.
Look, like I said, I don't mean to be offensive, but I saw this question, in it's many derivations, about a billion times on TSL boards. It was non-stop. When is Beamer leaving? Does this "event" means the end of Beamer? Is this the last straw? etc, etc, etc, etc...
I don't mean to take that out on you. I just want to avoid the common themes of TSL on TKP. Just my personal bias.
But I do apologize and will give my perspective on your questions.
I believe Frank will be with us through 2016. We should be loaded those two years, with a great out of conference schedule that could lead up to National Championship runs. Plus there is no chance Beamer misses the Battle at Bristol. After that I couldn't say. In my view he has earned the right to choose the year he wants to leave and I honestly do not believe he will choose a Bowden/Paterno longevity.
Tuition is too expensive as it is.
Goes up on average something like 8%/yr. That's national averages, so VT may be less.
Even so, there is a significant amount of waste within the Education system (and not just the collegiate level), and putting paying students deeper in debt isn't the way to go.
That's my 2 cents anyway.
Without trying to be sarcastic I think that is just something none of us can even really guess. CFB will leave/retire on his terms when he is ready. Only he could answer that and I would be willing to bet he is thinking about the upcoming season and thats it for now. Granted he might be thinking or even talking about with his wife and family, but no one, including himself, will say anything until it's time. Then we'll all mourn and wait to see if Bud or someone else takes the reigns. That being said, I think it's an interesting topic, but it's just all speculation until it actually happens.
The last thing I want is for Frank to leave. I think Tech fans will be in for a rude awakening when that happens.
If you ask me that's why you leave it alone. They're still missing it sometimes. Make them go for it. The year not a single PAT is missed, then you discuss this.
Just my two cents so here goes. I used to go all the games before I got married and had kids. But I went to pretty mich every game I could when I was in the Army at Bragg when one of my best friends had great parking in what was a Silver Hokie club level parking behind the south end zone, across the street from the paved Golden Hokie lot, right before the Michael Vick era started. After the Michael Vick era and the one NC appearance, the donations sky rocketed. He got bumped from lot to lot to lot the following years due to more Hokie Club donations, which is great, so don't get me wrong. So fund raising wasn't necessarily a top priority with the exposure we got then. Now with years past that and some stellar seasons and then the last to mediocre seasons as some would see, maybe with the next batch of good recruiting classes and subsequent really good seasons, we could start raising more $$$ for the whole athletic dept again. Just seems like the donations have hit an apex right now. Not saying we need another Michael Vick to turn that around, but some consistent top ten showings in the rankings or even the MNC game. Just going by the past of course. But thats just on a football perspective of course. Beamer has done wonders for this program since he became head coach and we all applaud him for that. Hopefully the tides are changing and we get back in the national spotlight.now go ahead and rip into this as necessary. I won't be offended.
Edit. Typed that on the ipad so some of the spelling is off and don't feel like going back over it all

Yeah, the doom and gloom talk is kinda silly.
I've seen you (or someone) say that "We're in for a rude awakening" when Beamer retires.
Seriously, it's not going to be like that, and for you to question whether a coach not bearing the same last name even as the head whistle is going to prompt him to leave, is also kinda silly.
We've enjoyed good runs under Beamer, but like any corporation, it will go through new management. It doesn't mean that even the largest of cogs doesn't need replacing once in a while. We've speculated as to who will be the new coach since 2001 when Beams was looking towards UNC. It's gonna happen. It has to happen.
When it does happen, the school will make the best decision it feels is necessary, and if you asked me right now, our team leader is ALREADY IN PLACE.
It's a team. It's by no means one man, even if he lead us to greatness.
Quit asking the same fucking question over and over again. This is why I left TSL almost a year ago, I simply can't handle the gloomy fans being emo just to get a rise out of message board folks.
