Believe me, I understand. I'm just sayin, even as a guy who played football in high school and rugby in college (no, I'm not 6'2" a cut 190 and run a 4.5 40. Why do you ask?), it's easy to oversimplify things a bit and wonder why things do/don't happen a certain way. It's easy to want to generalize and even to look around at other successful programs (Auburn, Bama, UC,LA, etc) and wonder why we can't have the same. My point is that we shouldn't get caught up in all that and appreciate what we've got, which is pretty darn good. Temper expectations to reality (we don't have a huge fanbase or ridiculous financial resources or outstanding athletic facilities, for starters), savor each and every win, and keep the faith that eventually, things will click and it'll be our time.

I think CFB knows to be competitive these days that the best player will win each of the position battles, seniority be damned. Letting freshmen play is also good for recruiting.
To be honest, I don't know how much input he really has anymore in terms of who starts at each position - that's up to the coordinators and their respective staffs.
It was incredibly clear that Vern & Gary mailed it in for this broadcast....corporate told them to hop a plane to El Paso, so they did. Didn't do any game prep, didn't look at film, didn't bother to check the name pronunciations in the game notes....probably hit the hotel bar up for a few drinks the night before, checked what time their flight out was, and, oh, yeah, there's the minor matter of doing the broadcast. It was indeed a pitiful attempt at a sports broadcast.

He played TE on the scout team for about the last 3/4 of the year (pretty much since the UNC game). Add to that the fact that we recruited 2 QBs to go along with Leal and Motley, and you can pretty much see the writing on the wall for Bucky's QB chances. Also, he had some pretty major mechanical issues in the Fall. He would've needed a lot of work to become an effective passer. Motley looked much more polished, even coming out of a wing-T offense in high school.
I rewatched this game yesterday. One of the best games I've ever seen.

Yeah, they mentioned him and his story, along with his commitment to VT. It was pretty cool. But yeah, most of it was "all hail the SEC" n junk, but that one bit about Keihn was worth it.
I don't really consider myself a great evaluator of football talent, and I don't watch much tape, but every once in a while I end up in the high school football highlights section of youtube, and twice I have seen highlight tapes where I was completely blown away by how much better a player was than everyone else on the field. The first was Tavon Austin, the second was Derrick Henry (I think Henry's high school tape was posted on this site last off season). He's ridiculous.
Knight also got hurt, which didn't help his case.
I don't think Stoops wanted the rotation to happen. Bell was the guy at the beginning of the year, and by the end of the season, Knight was mature enough to start consistently so Stoops stuck with him.

Ability is a prerequisite they all havr it. Its about leading the off effectively. Leals got the inside trsck but its far from a done deal. Look at all the scrutiny logan got - expect the same for whomever the next QB is. Thats the only certainty at this point

I wouldn't put too much stock in Rivals, especially their predictions. I think they secretly have Mark May working their system.
Actually, we have attempted a lot of passes this season. Much more than in past seasons. So a beast receiver has an opportunity to play immediately and potentially put up big numbers with all of the pass attempts he'll be getting.

No comparison to coales catch but I hear ya. The wprstpart is how they rewarded the player. It was at the very least a questionable hit -he was evenpenalized for it and they reward him- poor judgement all around.
No one else? Miller is the only graduating senior from the line. Arkema might not return either. But there's a ton of OL in the program and 5 more coming in as true freshmen.
Returning starters include McLaughlin (SO), Farris (rSR), Wang (rSR), Benedict (rSR) and Gibson (rSR).
Benedict played RT this season but I can him moving inside to RG, or even being passed at RT and being the #2. (His mobility is somewhat limited because of his leg injury, so OG may be a better fit for him with the younger OT's maturing). Gibson has been hot & cold and if he doesn't learn to apply 100% effort 100% of the time he may find himself behind one of the younger players.
Shuman (rSR), Smith (rSO), Conte (rSO), Teller (rFR) are IMO contenders for grabbing that open starting spot or displacing a returning starter.
Then there's also Arkema (rSR), Chung (rFR), Pfaff (rFR) and Osterloh (rFR) returning. Jake Goins (rSO) might be back too.
