Can you really fault a guy for wanting to take his time and wait on a commitment? He said way back in the summer that he planned on taking his officials and that it'd be a winter-time commitment. He very well may choose to go elsewhere, but I don't see his taking his time as "looking for a reason not to pick VT." And hey, if he is looking for a reason and he can't find one, happy birthday to us.
The "F" actually goes before the "U" if he were to actually commit to UVA...

Precisely. I think they're accurate enough to get the gist of a guy's talent (this guy is a 2-star type player, this guy is a 5-star, elite athlete, etc.) for the most part, but comparing the #25 guy to the #45 guy is pretty much worthless.
I've been following recruiting since the Brandon Royster recruitment in 1998, and I can tell you I don't see good signs in the Derrick Nnadi recruitment. It looks like to me that he has been looking for a reason not to pick VT for a long time.
That said, his other choices may eventually fall apart. This happened to Daryl Tapp, who was projected to VT for months but kept scheduling visits and waiting. Finally, I think it occured to him that College Park was a dump and he should just make the conventional choice and pick VT.
But look out for Nnadi, he might break some hearts.
but this would be only the guys who ended up starting right? I wonder what the star ratings were for the career backups or guys who didn't cut it at QB and got moved to other positions (Clayton, Whitaker, etc). I'm sure there would be some highly rated guys who ended up disappointing.

I just don't see how a kid like Ford can have a season like he did and lose ground,
unless......the ratings don't mean diddly.
It sounds like Foster is of the opinion that they just want to see where they stand right now. I don't think thy're too seriously considering leaving.
Grew up in Norfolk so I knew I didn't want to join the Navy. Knew I wanted to do ROTC though and decided I'd do Army ROTC. Came down to Tech or ODU and I got my acceptance letter from Tech first and I knew it was the right decision. Never really watched much college football until a year or so before I got here, but in the 6 years I've been here I've only missed two games. I like Blacksburg so much, that I still live and work here since I didn't commission into the Army. Getting to work in the Athletic Department has been an absolute blast and I now try to attend every Hokie event I can, because we have some of the nicest coaches and athletes out there. The more I'm here though the more I'm considering going back to school to add a different major to my degree and possibly doing grad school.
Word of advice, if you run into either one of those guys, don't say "Your mom says hi!"
This sort of practice isn't reserved just for athletes. I'm in the Navy ROTC unit, and even though I'm a Political Science major, the Navy requires PHYS 2305 and 2306. They have a deal worked with the Physics department where they try and put all the Navy non-engineers in the same class and its supposedly dumbed down a bit/ curved somewhat kindly.
I can't even tell what that guy is saying in the clip above....I have to say, I don't like that video being associated with Hokie football...it seems more like a UVA video clip to me...
I say open up the checkbook and coffers...there are only 28 coaches who make more than Beamer. When the time is right pick one and lets go.
I understand your point about letting the young guys play, but we can't just write off next year as a rebuilding year. We need to win next year and our best shot is with a veteran such as Leal. The guy has been very loyal to our program and deserves a shot. (Or should I say he has been very Leal to our program??)
Remember, Leal was the 28th rated Dual threat QB in his class...he was a legit 3 star.
Of course, if Ford, Motley, or Durkin legitimately beats him out, then I fully support them also.
I just think a guy who has been with the program this long gives us the best shot to win right away...

Apparently Penn State just got a commit from the top DT on their board. This should only help the Hokie's position with Nnadi.
I don't think he handles double teams well enough to be a legitimate defensive tackle option right now. I think most NFL teams would project him as a big 3-4 end. I can't speak to his motivating factors for staying or leaving. I would tell any kid, if you are going to get a big amount of guaranteed money, always choose to leave. If you are smart with your money and don't live extravagantly, you can always go back to school and finish in a year or so. That signing bonus will give you a great nest egg to start life. If you are not getting guaranteed money, stay in school.
Jarrett is another interesting case. He was much improved in coverage this season, but he is a strong safety in the NFL and not a free safety. His size would make him one of the smallest strong safeties in football. His production on film would really need to wow folks to get them to overlook his size. I think Jarrett will be a very good NFL player though.
I followed a couple links and ended up at another ridiculous recruiting letter that NC State sent to our very own commit CJ Reavis. I didn't remember hearing about this at the time but it's worth a share.
Read this thread and the latest Ford thread consecutively to get the perfect duality of our recruiting mindset: star rankings are awesome or meaningless depending on the recruit in question.
I'd take him over Ed Orgeron I guess, but no thanks still.

# | SURPRISE! 2014 QB Chris Durkin Committed to Virginia Tech I don't know if my guess qualifies as "decent" and I also don't know if I can narrow it down to three, but as I see it, the top four are definitely:
Leal - seniority gives him the right to compete for the starting job
Motley - coaches continually praise the fact that he exceeds expectations
Durkin and Ford - Loeffler's choices, and I believe that means something
Yeah I remember reading that now. Still curious what French's opinion would be on the possibility of him leaving though.
He submitted paperwork for a draft grade. Him and Jarrett.
I don't fault him one bit, he should do it his way, on his timetable. However, and this is without any first hand information, I get the same feeling. He will end up elsewhere.
