Beamer said he would coach as long as he has his health, a good QB, and a good Kicker. Thankfully he has one of the three right now. He also said he doesn't want to be the next Paterno, coaching while wearing depends. I would like to think he will coach until the end of the '15 or '16 season and hopefully end on a high note (Making playoffs or participating in MNC) The big "IF" is will Bud still be around? I think he's getting $800K at the end of next year so we should at least have him one more year. The next item in this stew is a new President and new AD coming in the picture. If they're promoted from within then Bud will probably take over if he's still around. However, they could be promoted from the outside and already have "their man" in their minds and he gets the job. The point being is there are too many variables right now. It will get very exciting around here in the next 3 years though.
Yo my man, what parts? I'm down in the 'bury and work in Cambridge.
This would be a great choice
Agree. No Kiffin in Hooville. He would stack the team with the greatest recruiting class ever, and win 4 games. But VT would be worse off for it.
Oklahoma State -10.5
Texas +13.5
Auburn -1.5
Stanford +3.5
Florida State -28.5
Michigan State +5.5
This is a case of perception being reality. We lost 4, therefore our D isn't as good as it usually is. Duke won the division, so they have to be better. Not completely true, but that's how it seems, so that's how they voted...Sux.
I don't know if this is sarcasm or serious, but consider a few things:
1. Stiney wasn't in charge of recruiting until this offseason when he was removed as OC and put in the role of recruiting coordinator. We're pulling in our best class in years, thanks in part to the efforts of the new coaches, but also Stiney.
2. The old offensive coaching staff, as a whole, was not good at recruiting. The D churned along (because they have always had a plan) and the O stagnated because guys like O'Cain and Newsome had no ability to plan and made (what seemed to be) little effort to get recruits from anywhere that wasn't convenient for them. They became apathetic and just figured they could offer anybody that was a decent enough athlete and that things would work out later. That became the mantra for the offense - put athletic guys on the field and stuff will happen. For a while, it worked fairly well, but it was a doomed approach.
3. The players, college coaches, and HS coaches rave about Stiney. They love him as a person, and you can't beat that type of praise. There's a lot of networking and politicking required to successfully recruit in college, and Stiney does know what he's doing there. He's likable and he gives a great sales pitch for VT.
+1
Randy Shannon was the only person associated with Miami that I ever respected. Seemed like a good guy and solid position coach.
Randy Shannon - very nice fit for the LB's....
I've never understood why the Music City Bowl isn't higher up on the ACC's bowl list - Nashville would be a really fun destination and I'd love to see us play there, much more than the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Plus, with the SEC tie-in you could have some fun with that. Too bad they're lower on the pecking order... can you imagine how fun VT-Texas A&M in Nashville could be?
#14 is scared shitless....
M.C. Esher comes to mind..
I'm sorry, I have to do this. I believe you meant "stares". However, visualizing 'stairing' at the water produces some rather interesting images.
The world is a crazy place, full of crazies
I don't think they are stressing about selling tickets too much. http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/chick-fil-a-bowl-announces-sell...
Best of luck to Jim Grobe. He did good things despite some long odds.
