If I were a defensive recruit, I would still walk away from this game shaking my head. It's so demoralizing for a defense to play like that and have the offense piss it all away. I definitely see the appeal of joining an elite unit, but when the circumstances out of their control are this bad, what's the point? I'd much rather look to join a team with a good offense and mediocre defense where I could step in and potentially make a difference.
The AP poll is out..VT dropped out here as well.
He's only given him 2 chances and only one was for something bad. Nothing he hasn't done for other players. Beamer wants kids to succeed both on and off the field and does everything he can to help them because he is a great coach and an even better person.
Completely agree with you on that 4th down call. It was a major brain cramp by Loeffler to try and run Edmonds wide on that play. And lest anyone forget, it was right after that 4th down stop that Duke drove to score their only TD of the day. That was THE pivotal play in the game, IMHO.
Thats exactly what I did my freshmen year, got south endzone for 3 or 4 games and just sat in east or north. Had a friend print off an extra copy of their ticket and just use that when inside the stadium.
The best team doesn't always win, we were clearly the better team just couldn't finish. Appy St is not better than Michigan and JMU isn't better than us. That's why they play the games because anything can happen.
Not only did LT cough up four INTs, he also had about three or four others that could have easily been intercepted too. He missed several wide open receivers downfield for easy TDs, overthrew wide open receivers, and made a lot of bad decisions on where to go with the football.
To put it bluntly, he was terrible yesterday. It was easily the worst game of his career at VT, IMHO.
But it's just one game, and the Coastal Division is still there for the taking.
We all know that our QB is capable of playing much better than he did yesterday. But the defensive coordinators for BC, Miami, Maryland and UVA are going to look at the game film from yesterday and are probably going to conclude that it's a good game plan to crowd the LOS, take away the short stuff, and try to force Logan Thomas to beat you by going deep.
Can he respond to the challenge? We will see.
drinking, smart phones and posting don't mix. I thought I was commenting on something.
Go Giants!
ba-dum da da-da-da da titties and beer
Agreed, their two FG were from > 50 yards. Meaning they didn't even get into the red zone but still came away with points. All three of our FG attempts were closer than any of theirs, and we only got 1/3 of them. It was literally the difference in the game
I agree with the sentiment above because I tend to think that a level-headed kid who's on the fence will not decide his entire college career based on the outcome of a single game. If he's on the fence and he's not convinced by (1) the legacy built here at VT, (2) the impressive facilities that are only getting better, (3) a strong game day atmosphere, and (4) getting to play on national TV almost every week, I agree with the quote above. We have a lot going for us to swing the fence-sitters, if all of that doesn't sway them, good luck to them wherever they end up.
Except those players that are on the fence are the ones we need to impress. It's delusional to think that we should only want players that bleed orange and maroon before they even play here.
Did anyone else go "...oh shit" when they saw the uniforms for the first time?
I think a bigger portion of the sting associated with this loss is associated with the name of the university than we'd like to admit. We typically don't associate ugly losses with Duke, but there's always a first time for everything. I'm not going to ignore that we played badly, because we did, but had this loss been to someone who we have a more even series with (Georgia Tech and NC State come to mind), we wouldn't be nearly as sore.
Did anyone else notice the multitude of times Byrn was WIDE OPEN deep? Especially on play action. Happened at least 3 times and Logan checked it down each time. His last INT was one these instances. He forces it to a guy triple covered. Even though he hit his man in the chest, he got clobbered and coughed up the ball. Meanwhile, the safety moved up and Byrn blew by him. Looking at the replay, Logan even looked at Byrn and chose not to pass to him.
This wasn't a deep ball, but we had a 3rd or 4th and short with Byrn running to the flat. He was open again and Logan decided to not throw and barely converted when he ran. I just don't understand why he'd pass up his clear primary read when it was open.
I've been a Logan apologist for a while, but that game was flat out atrocious from him. He made so many bad reads and showed little to no accuracy.
I've been very vocal on here that I don't think Logan is a good QB. Loeffler really does not make the best calls when it matters, though. We do not score in the red zone and were atrocious on third down. Those two things are a direct result of bad playcalling. Speaking of, did you see that stat that they showed over and over again about how we're the second worst in the ACC at third down conversions? Or perhaps you missed that?
we already have a top kicker coming in next yr. A lefty to
Herp derp can't analyze offense, default to blame quarterback. Obviously he didn't play perfectly, but I doubt Logan was the primary cause of the offensive failures. The film will tell the true story, but I don't (want to) believe that Logan lost all of his progress over a bye week. Something else had to have happened Saturday
In their defense, this was a spring game and their attendance is normally twice as many people as pictured here.
Yes this is a joke, and yes I hate miami

I'm pretty sure the TD run was a QB draw

It's become quite apparent that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Please see the section titled "French" at the top of the screen.
Loeffler ran so many veer/inverted veer plays because 1) Thomas is his best runner (100 yards yesterday), 2) It sets up just about everything else in the offense and 3) It's one of the few things our offensive talent has been able to execute with any sort of consistency this year.
