I was about to say that. But also that ECU and Marshall aren't teams to joke around about. Think about the ACC--I am not saying I want either team to join, but right now, VT, Miami and Clemson FSU are looking like the cream of the crop for the ACC. With maryland poking in, I think ECU could be a upper tier team. But because they are CUSA, we don't get credit. Oh well, the more chip on our shoulder, the better.

I completely concur with this. I like how Virginia Tech has a lot of fight when they are not ranked. I like how Bryn said the other night how they felt disrespected and made sure the Bees knew it.

Leave the Hokies out of the top 25, voters, or I'm gonna have to give Sam Rogers a call.*

*that is with a bat-signal.

I think it depends on how you define a conference overrated. It was shown today that OK State was a little overrated, but as far as having highly ranked teams that shouldn't be I don't think the Big XII(10) is overrated. If you define overrated as media and national perception, maybe they are a little. But how long were they talked about on Gameday this morning. I didn't see half of it but I assume not that much. And I think your argument is a little flawed in saying they only played cupcakes and didn't do that well against them. If you didn't see all our games you would make the same argument about Tech, but there has been a good bit of talk on here today about being ranked.

So overall I think the only way to "rank" conferences is when one conference plays another. I think that's why the ACC takes more than its share of crap because we play the most of our out of conference games against the $EC.

Have to concur. Attending the August 17th scrimmage, both French and I leaped out of our seat after Edmunds laid a crunching block on a blitzing defensive player.

Caleb completely whiffed on a block and J.C. is just too small to drive a blitzer to the ground.

Good call, I completely forgot about that. Just doesn't seem like a good idea no matter how much talent he has. Its not my place to pass judgement, but why even get yourself into a situation where something could go so wrong. Thank you for the reminder.

Yep. The only difference between talking to a stranger at a bar about their sports opinions and reading something on bleacher report, is that the bleacher "reporter" believes that they actually know what they are talking about.

Just don't hand them out until the end of the game. If you hand them out at the start of the 4th quarter, you're only pushing the exodus back a few minutes.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm talking about this season, not the past decade. Everyone always falls into that trap of thinking a conference is good because they've recently been good. This year, the Pac 12 is the best and they will prove that when they dominate bowl season. They whooped up on the Big 10 with the exception of (shitty) Cal vs. Ohio State. The SEC is good, but they benefit from the perception that they're the best when the results in OOC games this year proves otherwise.

Forgive me for being a naysayer, but I really hope we are not ranked this week, b/c it would only give extra motivation to UNC to bring their "A" game to Lane. Even though it doesn't matter to me being out of the country, I would love to see the game broadcast later in the day. This really is a trap game for VT with us coming off of a big, emotional win and UNC coming off of a major disappointing loss. The naturals tendencies in these situations are for VT to have a letdown and for UNC to fight like crazy to avoid a 3-game losing streak. I am making myself nervous, gonna shutup now. Go Hokies, beat the Squeals!

I see what you did there

Nobody is going to give the PAC-12 credit until they start winning MNC's. I agree they look very strong this season, but not losing to creampuff OOC teams is different than having teams that are capable of making it to the MNC. We'll see what they look like at the end of October and a bunch of conference games under their belts. I would list them second at this juncture in the season, but it's way too early to say that they have supplanted the SEC.

McCarron getting his stats like LT; 12 of 13 (just with fewer touchdowns so far).
