I mixed things way worse than this in a lab and was paid for it. Heck, we set stuff like this off for science fair projects approved by our teachers in high school.

It was just dumb of them to do it in a way that would scare someone enough to call the police. That's where the stupidity lies: putting someone else in a position to call the police on them.

Now if they had done it in a field, just for kicks to see what it would do? Different story. But they set it off near an apartment, without warning others, and ended up scaring someone. That's the real problem here.

See video above. No damage to anything, except maybe the grass. Just a loud noise. The resulting product is corrosive, but that is no problem with a good pair of nitrile gloves. It's not radioactive or anything and it's certainly not going to cause much damage if handled properly.

And Mr. Turk is right. This will definitely get knocked down to a misdemeanor. They are cooperating. And it's obvious they meant no harm to anyone. No malice or intent to harm.

In my mind, these two could have been doing something much, much worse. Ahem... see Miami football, Ohio State football, North Carolina football, Marcus Vick, I could keep going.

Bottom line: Stupid? Absolutely. Prank? Obviously. Capable of blowing up houses? No way.

rumcove said something similar in a thread here: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2012/november/30/gt-and-uva-leave-acc-....

I always thought Stinespring would be retained in some capacity, because he's a great recruiter and he represents the program well. Where is he going to go? I have a hard time believing a school is leaving its door open for him until after our bowl, or there's another head coach out there about to get axed but the schools is waiting on Stiney to become available before doing so. If he were to go, high school or I-AA seem the most likely landing spots to me. He's over his head as offensive coordinator, and the move to let O'Cain call plays cut his legs out from under him after a pretty successful 2010 season. If he leaves the program completely, it would be a loss.

I don't agree with how FBS has conducted their campaign against Stinespring, a site dedicated to his termination with little analysis other than a couple of stats + BURN IT ALL DOWN DOT GIF when we lose or underperform. With that said, I'm not sure what their motivation would be for just making things up. They don't have ads on their site, so page views are out of the question. If they have a source, the quality of information depends on that person.

Lot of smoke this offseason, so we'll see what happens...

It it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

I will be surprised if all of that happens.

If Bryan Stinespring was hired elsewhere as a head coach we would know about this already. Schools don't want to announce hires.

And this is a risk. I thought they would get Diaco, maybe they couldnt land him?

Hes a HC guy, not a coordinator. His skill set is strategery and recruiting, not execution and details.

Look to Kalamazooo.

The staff, unlike many others, don't want the distraction of major coaching changes a few weeks before a bowl game. I really think Frank is aware of fan (and booster) reaction this year. He made necessary changes for recruitment at the right time. Stiney has been with us for a good many years now and has been able to remain secure under the umbrella of BCS bids and 10 win seasons. As much as a 6-6 regular season can call for someone's head, Frank may also allow for "one bad season" as asinine as that may sound.

There are many here connected and constantly perusing sources for this kind of information. I'd wait it out before a website made explicitly to get one person fired tells you that he will in fact be fired AND replaced by an OC that FANS think would be a great fit.

I don't mean to burst any bubbles but if another bigger name wants a Tony Franklin and can write a bigger check, all ties and affiliations here are gone.

I'd just wait it out. Just my two cents.

I highly doubt that Stiney leaves for a HC spot. That just makes zero sense whatsoever.

The other three things sound plausible so I could see those happening.

Well, If this is true, I'm interested to see what Franklin can pull together in his first season. I'll be holding my breath till its official though. I wish Ocain and Newsome could have left on a better note and all. Eagerly awaiting an announcement.

you can never really tell with these rumors, just look at the last big rumor we discussed on here about the Boo Hoos and GT going to the B1G that was supposed to be announced on Monday.

You havent lived unless you have tried this at least once. As for the "level a house" comment...thats BS! the only thing that hcl/ aluminum bomb will jack up is a mailbox...dont ask me how I know. LOL

Not actually very dangerous. In fact, it's less dangerous than the gas you put into your car. The reason we think hydrogen is so dangerous is because of the Hindenburg. Many incorrectly believe the explosion was due to the hydrogen used for buoyancy. However, electricity and the fabric of the zeppelin are the likely culprits.

If Hydrogen production ever becomes efficient, we'll all be driving hydrogen cars in the future.

Not discrediting the player at all, but it seems like everyone keeps forgetting that Trey Edmunds will be available on the roster next season after redshirting. He's a RB that can break a lot of tackles and also make one sharp cut and get to space. In other words, if what French has been saying about Edmunds is even halfway true (and I trust French's judgement), and he sees the field, we have an every down/every situation RB.

This kid plays at my former rival high school, and unless they've changed drastically in the past 4 years, the offense caters to a running QB like Rogers. Like the stat line suggests, he probably carries it 15+ times a game, and I don't blame the coaches when the kid's built like that. But I doubt he'll play QB in college, especially at 6' even. I think the DI programs are looking at him as an athlete rather than a passer.

I didn't get a chance to go to any games this year but I know he ended up with over 2,000 yards. From what I have heard he pretty much was the offense in some of their games.

As far as any offers, I have no idea if he has gotten any.

Dude, I was calm when I wrote that. I'm calm now. Type doesnt translate that very well, so that part is on me. But, you know, I did stupid pranks in my past too, as did we all. And I honestly don't give a crap what they made it with. My problem is that they went through with the idea in the first place. I can go out on the internet and find a dozen websites that sell prank "explosives"- smoke bombs, stink bombs, firecrackers, and the such. These were made in factories to specific standards to make them as safe as possible barring user error. Were either of these students majoring in chem? did they know how the substances would react? Did they know the exact measurements to use to make them as safe as possible? OR did they use the mentos-diet coke method and just throw them in and shake them up? I don't really care. They are part of a well known football program in a well known university. They have their education paid for (assuming scholarships apply here) and possible pro careers if they prove to be good enough. I'm care more that they made the decision to take all that and possibly ruin it by playing a prank. You want to play a prank, go with a classic- Din Dong ditch, TP a house, spray someone with silly string as they go around a corner. Not something that is gonna make the cops say your setting off explosives. Poor decision making is what I'm getting at. I never got any of the opportunities that they have been given(my own fault) so when I see someone do something like this, it makes me want to grab them and shake them and yell ," WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?"

I think he could, like you said, play anywhere.

I definitely see some potential for him as a running back Toby Gerhart-style, fighting for extra yards and finding the endzone (which is what VT desperately will need after Martin Scales graduates this year).
I'm picturing a Greg Boone offensive scheme set up just for him ala the Wild Turkey formation we used to run, giving him a chance to run a few quick read options and/or slants & sluggos.

I think you nailed it on the head speaking of his character, which I know is unbelievably solid for a high school senior. Hopefully he gets a chance somewhere.

He gets the ball an absurd amount of times, usually 35+, but he doesn't disappoint. Has run over 300 yards multiple times this year(had 7 TD's against Henrico this year). Atlee tended to get in a lot of track meets this year so he got the ball a ton.

Made an account just to comment on this.

I went to high school with Ben(Sam's Brother) and have known Sam for a long time. He is just an all-around great person and one hell of a football player that any school would be lucky to have. I don't think I've ever seen a player as committed to winning (a lot like Tebow in that sense) as much as Sam and it shows in his play. He's started at QB for Hanover since he was a freshman and from day one he's been the leader for what has been a very successful team that is in a pretty tough district(Capital). The kid is He's also played TE, H-Back, WR, LB, Kickoff coverage, kick return and is a punt returner. He's even the holder for field goals. There really aren't enough superlatives to describe Sam as a person and player.

Now, with all that said he's probably not a D-1 QB. He is a legit 6' and as the picture above shows a solid 205 (possibly more now) but he would be much better suited for a RB/FB role (Think Zwinak at PSU). He has amazing power and vision running the ball and has a great burst over 10-15 yards. He also has superb hands. He could also be a D-1 LB (Think Jack Tyler, but faster and better ball skills). I also would think he would see the field very early on special teams (possibly punt protector) just based on his effort and game knowledge. VT could plug him in just about any skill position on offense (except flanker) and I think he could do reasonably well.

I also think UVA has offered him and he's already gotten several walk-on offers and 1AA offers. So if VT is serious about him they probably need to get to him quick.

Here's his film from his Sophomore year(I think). It's pretty lengthy and has some repetition, but it shows more of him throwing than the previous videos.

I went to Lee-Davis. Watched him beat us single-handedly a few weeks ago.

Also: whats the story with Morris Jackson @ Atlee? I've been hearing and reading he's having a ridiculous season, but I haven't seen him play. Is he looking at any FBS offers?
