I am glad that the boosters are going to finally step in because I really don't believe that Frank would if it was left up to him. I think we really need someone with connections to the 757 and can recruit that area, but also can actually call plays on offense.
Dude I didn't like the sleeve to be honest. What was the overall reaction to that one? Just wondering if I'm in the minority...
Tempted to post this on the page hahahaha. That gave me a good laugh.
It all comes down to what was supposed to be our strength this year, the D-Line. If we can get pressure on Tajh Boyd he'll do stupid things like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o386Zv5L3u8
What I'm scared of is we don't get any pressure and Foster is forced to start bringing extra blitzers, then we're stuck doing what we did against Duke and running a zero blitz every play. Watkins and Hopkins will burn our corners all day if we have to do that. I fully expect our offense to score 30+ against that piss poor tackling.
it may be a way for the coaching staff to keep Coleman grounded, but what does someone have to do to become a clear #1 back this year? I guess the fact that we're more thank halfway through our season and still trying to find a RB is scary to me. Considering the teams coming up I feel like the team needs it as well.
I think we have the potential to at least play with them, but we've shown up with a different team each week. My biggest worry is our secondary. The match up of K. Fuller and Sammy Watkins is alright, but Hopkins has also been good this year so Bonner and Exum are both liabilities at corner. Cole misses too many open field tackles so he too is a liability. I honestly don't know what I'd do if I was Bud at this point, but I am scared they are gonna get absolutely scorched in the backfield. Maybe put Exum back at safety and give Manning another shot at corner? Idk I just know I like the combo of Jarrett and Exum at safety, they're both very good back there, and they provide a solid back up to our corners that have been struggling.
I agree it's all about passion. It has nothing to do with color-themed-"outs" whether they be white, black, maroon, or orange...
There should be an event posted that says:
"Virginia Tech vs. Florida State (Thursday, November 8th)"
Description: 1. SHOW UP. 2. WEAR TEAM COLORS (NOT BLACK. MAROON. ORANGE, ONLY IF YOU MUST.) 3. YELL LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT FOR ALL FOUR DEFENSIVE DOWNS, FROM OPPOSING TEAM HUDDLE THROUGH THE SNAP OF THE BALL. 4. BE SILENT WHEN THE OFFENSE IS ON THE FIELD. 5. BEAT FSU.
but the Clemson's inverted veer is definitely not "the zone read" with the playside DE being unblocked.
The zone read is called the zone read because there is zone blocking. The inverted veer run by Clemson definitely doesn't have zone blocking.
Clemson will use Veer blocking, they will sometimes pull a guard into the hole, they will sometimes pull a lineman across the face of the unblocked DE, sometimes they will run an "outside inverted veer" by pulling a lineman and trapping the DE then reading the outside LB (that'll screw up a defense's read keys)... but they almost never zone block on the inverted veer.
For the Boise game I wore that black 'UT PROSIM' shirt they made for the game.
But I wore it UNDER MY MAROON JERSEY
I said in a reply above that we should never be scared to wear maroon (or even orange) to a game because the other team wears a similar color (ie: FSU or BC) and it might pump them up. We always need to have that Terror Dome mentality all day, every day.
Wear Maroon and Orange and lets go kick some ass.
Thanks for the insight. I guess we all should realize that Logan has to have a good game throwing AND running for the offense to be successful... Let's hope that by next season and perhaps the end of this regular season we have some stars that can make the offense more versatile and threatening to defenses. Because if the whole thing hinges on Logan, then we have the potential for off games whenever he has one... And that is a HUGE problem.
Of course, that doesn't need to be said explicitly.
I feel that if we advertise that we should AVOID wearing maroon just because its close to FSU's colors it makes us look chicken.
WEAR MAROON DAMNIT.
HOKIE PRIDE #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING ALL THE TIME
Nobody punks us into being "scared" of wearing maroon just because it *might pump the other team up*. That ain't Terror Dome, baby.
Put on your Maroon jersey, Maroon hats, Maroon boxers, Maroon Nike's and I will see y'all in Lane.
Most Surprising Team: Ohio (BCS Busters)
Most Disappointing Team: Arkansas (is there really any other choice?)
ACC: FSU over VT
SEC: Alabama over Florida
Big10: Northwestern over Wisconsin (I really want it to happen)
Big 12: Kansas State
Big East: Rutgers
Pac-12: Oregon over USC
Heisman: 1) Collin Klein 2) Geno Smith 3) Stefphon Johnson
the axing of stick it in is a just another example of something I've mentioned in a previous post on another forum topic... our program as a whole is too worried about morals... they get rid of stick it in because of sexual connotations. It's college, everything has sexual connotations when you're 18-22 years old. It's ridiculous, we chanted stick it in when our team was close to sticking the ball in the endzone. If the male cheerleaders were behind the female cheerleaders as they bent over while doing the stick it in motion, then I would completely understand. But it wasn't harmful, it was all in fun, and weaver took it away from us. It was a great chant and not only that, the music/beat was one of the best we had. Sorry for that, I'll get off my soapbox now.
Agree with everything you said btw.
I'm now looking for us to drop 'Bama next year in favor of South Carolina, and change UNC to an out of conference match. Then, pair that with games against Western and East Carolina... Boom. Cardinal Carolinas. Bring 'em on.
we can call it a regional rivalry and give a chance to soften the schedule/ add a trap game every year.
Just... tired of playing them. Why?
Most Surprising Team: Oregon St
Most Disappointing Team: Auburn
Conference Champions (for everyone but Big East and Big 12, Team 1 over Team 2)
ACC: FSU over VT
SEC: South Carolina over Alabama
BIG: Nebraska over Wisconsin
Big 12: Kansas State
Big East: Louisville
Pac-12: Oregon State over USC (WHY THE HELL NOT)
Heisman (winner and two finalists): 1)Klein 2)Geno Smith 3) T'eo
Most Surprising Team: Oregon State, with Florida as a close second. I don't think anyone had the Beavers at 5-0 except for In-N-Out Burger. Their schedule up until now has been on the soft side, but they've won 3 road games, and toasted BYU. Stanford and Oregon loom large.
Most Disappointing Team: Auburn, with Texas as a close second. Gene Chizik might be fired less than two years after winning the national championship, that's unheard of.
Conference Champions
ACC: FSU > Miami (Back Bowl)
SEC: Florida over Alabama (I think Alabama rolls into Hotlanta 12-0, but Florida just lets it all hang out and pulls the upsets)
B1G: Michigan over Wisconsin
Big 12: K-State
Big East: Louisville by the benefit of hosting Cincinnati
Pac-12: Oregon over USC
Heisman (winner and two finalists): 1) Geno Smith 2) Teo 3) Montee Ball
Here's the deal...everything that has gotten the crowd involved and caught on to a stadium-wide thing has started in the band. Jumping to Enter Sandman, Stick It In, the "Block that Kick" motion, the kickoff "number is gonna die" chant, and such all started in the North Endzone with the MVs. The problem is that there hasn't been anything new and exciting since Stick It In got the axe. FSU has the War Chant and as much as I hate it, it's simple and the ENTIRE stadium does it. That was Stick It In for us. While we need something similar, the team doesn't need fans wearing special shirts or having paper airplane throwing contests, they need passion. The band is probably one of the loudest blocks of people along with the Corps as far as 60 minutes of dedication to being inside the opponent's head. Most of our fans this year could learn a lesson or two from them.
And Beamer said in his press conference before Boise that he wanted to see a sea of orange and maroon like at home, not black.
This is nonsense and pointless. It wouldn't work even if it was a good idea. When they tried to do the blackout for boise there were more black shirts than normal (normal being 0) but orange and maroon still dominated the crowd.
I'm wearing my Hokie colored Lebrons, a maroon shirt under an orange hoodie, and an orange hat. The only thing black will be my skin.
Personally, I can't find the event on facebook and I think it's best that way.
the longer we can keep their offense off the field the better chance we have at making this a game.
Taj and Sammy scare the crap out of me, and I've been having vietnam style flashbacks to the ACCCG since the season started. keep the ball out of their hands and we have a good chance at some good ole fashioned redemption saturday.
This just made me laugh out loud, in the office. Oops
Too much into the article. The offensive staff doesn't seem comfortable enough to stray away from a tailback by committee system just yet. As great as JC's performance was it wasn't really effective until Logan got the running game going and he became the "hot hand". He seems to have some promise, but they still want to rotate guys in other packages. Greggory has done well running downhill. Even Scales scored on short yardage Saturday. Therefore, I don't think it's a knock to him versus figuring out which backs go where/when. Is this the best strategy? I think the jury is still out as these new offensive schemes are starting to solidify.
The reality is that we'd like an every down back with a list of compliments behind him. What we have is a long list of talent that can compliment one another, but no clear leader.
In fact, this season LT has carried the ball 71 times. The next is Holmes with 56 and Coleman at 44. The success of it all shows again that it hinges on Logan first.

Most Surprising Team: Notre Dame, looking really good and really surprised to see them doing it on Defense
Most Disappointing Team: Arkansas, they were supposed to have a chance in the SEC and don't think anyone saw them falling this far
Conference Champions (for everyone but Big East and Big 12, Team 1 over Team 2)
ACC: FSU over VT
SEC: Alabama beating Sakerlina
BIG: Nebraska over Wisconsin (OSU is the best team in the B1G tho)
Big 12: Kansas State
Big East: Cincy
Pac-12: Oregon over USC
Heisman (winner and two finalists):
1)Geno Smith - incredible stats
2)T'eo - incredible story
3)Klein
4)Braxton Miller - just adding it in there
