Tony Franklin. Good call. Might have growing pains trying to adjust to a true spread like he runs, but it would make games more fun to watch.

Phil Montgomery from Baylor is another viable option. His offense is designed around dual-threat quarterbacks putting up lots of points. We seem to only get dual-threat guys now any way. Plus, he still works running backs into the mix, so we can maintain some of our roots.

Trooper Taylor- kind of a reach, since he's in the SEC, but an outstanding recruiter, and someone who could really help the passing game.

Stinespring has taken ownership and said he needed to better prepare the players at various times during this year and last year. The only difference is he isn't saying people played their nuts or ass off and providing sound bites.

He and Foster obviously have different demeanors and different ways of interfacing with the players and the media but their message is the same, the players made some plays but didn't execute in key situations. In their comments they have both owned the fact that they are responsible for having the players ready to go on gameday.

There is nothing like a little Angry Bud Foster pick-me-up. I've been a little depressed after last weekend.

Don't get me wrong. I don't all of sudden have crazy delusions of grandeur concerning this team. We still have a lot of work to do to rebuild the respect we had and we're a long way from being the team we all thought we were gonna have.

But seeing and hearing the fire coming from Bud just gives me a little more enthusiasm that the team can start putting that hard work on show during games.

GIVE EM HELL, BUD

LONG LIVE THE TERRORDOME.

Argh, MD drives me batty! He just doesn't seem to care at all. He doesn't seem put in the effort that I would expect and it doesn't feel like he's as willing to sacrifice for the team as, say, Danny Coale.

Since you brought it up, it was Beamer's fault. The Coale fake punt was a horrible game management decision. It should have never been up to Coale to decide what to do. The D was stout and Mich was having problems moving the ball. You punt there, pin them deep and play D, the Beamer modus operandi.

I have yet to hear Stinespring say anything to the effect of "I didn't get my guys ready to play.""I didn't help my guys succeed.""I didn't scheme properly.""I didn't coach them up enough during the week." There is no ownership of the offensive failures by the head of the offense. And if there are videos please post them, but what will be absent is the anger and passion of letting himself, his players and the team down, as seen from Foster. Some good plays have been called during the game but there is zero motivation and passion from the offensive side of the ball at the start of games and it shows.

Look at the offensive coordinator in this video after the game. You can't see his face because he has his hat on and looks straight down at the table. This is the guy you want leading the offense?

I'll start off by saying he's friends with Bud Foster from playing together at Murray State but he graduated before Frank Beamer coached there. He's the current offensive coordinator for Louisiana Tech and they are currently leading the nation in offense and just beat UVA. He was previously an offensive coordinator at Middle Tennesse State, Auburn, and Troy. Only place he was fired was from Auburn but that could be attributed to the Tuberville only giving a new spread offense 4 games to work with players that weren't suited for the offense. Here's his wiki.

He's a spread coach coming from the same tree that's produced Leach and Holgorsen. He's been great with QBs in the past such as w/ Tim Couch and to a more obscure qb in Nathan Dasher recently at Middle Tennesse State. He does incorporate the running game w/ this year so far having 167 rushes to 134 pass attempts. He's a cocky guy having had coaching clinics touting "The Tony Franklin System" and the offense would definitely have a defined identity. I currently feel as if we have players that could fit a spread offense as we've dabbled in it somewhat past couple of years.

I think the Murray State, Bud Foster relationship makes it comfortable enough for the hire by Beamer but that the established resume and stable identity makes it a break from what we have.

The LAST thing needed in the VT football program is more nepotism. Shane has shown to be a good position coach and on the up-and-up in recruiting, but Stinespring also had zero offensive coordinating experience, and look where we are today. It needs to be either a proven OC at another D1 school or a young up and coming guy from the lower levels.

happens all the time in the NFL... Not as much in college, true, but I don't think it's as inconceivable as people believe. Name one major program that would hire him? If he's head coach again, it's a lateral move to a minor BCS team or lower. If he wants to coach at a major BCS team, then OC is the best realistic shot.

but I appreciate the honesty. Yes, they're 19-22 yearolds, but they are still adults. If they can't take some criticism, then they don't deserve the praise. If you don't want to blame Coale for the terrible decision on the punt, then don't praise him on that amazing catch in the endzone.

All I want is someone on the offense to get some fire. If no one on the offense is pissed off, if they're all complacent with 38 yards in the first half, then that offense is completely undeserving of that Foster defense. It's not fair to them.

Joe, nobody cares about the next opponent. We're too busy hating literally every aspect of our program.

Yeah, but then everybody kills Frank and the O coaches for "throwing the players under the bus." Bud says it and people are like "fuck yeahz! Bud tells it like it is!" Stiney says the same thing and it's all "o shut the fuck up stiney! take responsibility for your own shortcomings you sorry fuck!"

People were incredulous after the Sugar Bowl when Frank said Coale had a run/punt option on that 4th qtr fake attempt. Even Danny said he thought he could get the yard. But for so many people that didnt matter, it was all Frank's fault, and he was an asshole for saying it was on Danny.

Yes, after being fired for no real reason from Maryland, he would have killed it on the offense. But who knows if Fridge would have taken the job since it is a step down back to OC from HC, even if it was with his friend Frank. Then we could get rid of Newsome and Ocain, and demote stinehole to head offensive recruiter, oline coach, and team tactician. If only....

I really hope O'Cainspring consider scripted plays in the 1st drive. Practice them, get efficient with them, and use them in a game. I think this could really help Logan and the rest of the offense to get into sync early. Also really helps with the mental aspect of preparing for a game.

Also, I'm wondering where you get your stats? I've been looking for a website like that.

in a press conference. Pissed off, speaking the truth, explaining directly what went wrong and how they plan on fixing it. If only we could get somebody with the equivalent fire on offense. Somebody get pissed off that they only got 36 yds of offense in the 1st half. Somebody hold the players accountable for execution and performance.

Then Fuller should never have broken contain. Either way, with 20 seconds left, it is inexcusable to let any receiver to get deeper than everybody on the field. I couldn't tell if it was play call or execution, but that should never happen with a TD necessary for the opponent to win.

I feel that it's going to take either Beamer stepping down or being let go before we get a new offense.

I agree with a lot of what has been said. Unfortunately, I saw this type of fan behavior coming over the past years. BC 2007 is when it first pissed me off, when a quarter of the student section was more concerned about getting closer to the field to rush it with 6(!!!) minutes left in the game instead of trying to yell Matt Ryan deaf (even during BC's final drive, the rush-ready students in the isles and open space simply turned around, backs to the field, and watched the jumbotron...). Against Nebraska in 2009, the majority of students in my section started leaving to go downtown at the start of the fourth quarter before the "Miracle in Blacksburg" happened. Also in 2009 against UNC, I was in the student section where the very first paper ticket airplane was thrown. This led to a huge Facebook group that promoted paper airplane throwing to become a start of 4th quarter "tradition" (wtf are you serious? Makes me sick). And even this past weekend, when the game was easily still in flux in the second half, I overheard and saw fans leave FedEx just to hang out in the parking lot or beat traffic. I brought up a couple very good friends who are Michigan alums to tailgate and watch the game, and I was flat out embarassed that they heard and saw what I heard. They did greatly enjoy the experience though and FedEx is without a doubt not Lane Stadium, but I digress.

Those regularly on this site share the passion I have for VT football as I do and will stay until the clock hits 00:00, but complacency is running rampant. The team has the tools to turn the season around for ACC play (I actually believe this, not just regurgitating Beamer-speak. Is it going to be easy? Hell no), and as fans, we need to support our team through thick and thin, and it all starts with the students, both the ones in the stands and on the field. Support them till the end of the game. Get loud on defense. It can only be done one game at a time, but it has to start somewhere.

I'll be in the Lane Stadium stands in two weeks doing my part to promote 5 yard penalties against Duke's offense.

there's no way my voice would not have cracked if i had to ask bud questions like that with him staring me down. i mean jeez, i almost pissed myself just watching this video.

could melt steel. I would have enjoyed to see some of those reporters faces with him staring them down.

I grew up outside that other college here in VA - you know the one......I think we have won the last 8 games against them or so...but I wanted to go to Tech and join the VTCC there.

I was hooked - the campus, the spirit, college football - until then I had never really watched it. I transferred in for Winter Quarter (yeah - I'm that old - quarters) after Beamer's first season, but was anxious about getting into the games come Fall.

We were not good - we won 2 games that year - one to Cincy - of which I missed because I think it was over Fall Break - and earlier in the season to Navy, but that was the first weekend of the month and those were typically my weekend drills for the National Guard.

I left Tech the following Spring over a difference of opinion - they thought I needed higher grades than I did :)

I continued to be a fan - I loved the school regardless.

I went to a few games here and there and always loved the atmosphere.

Went to the 1996 win over UVa - one of my favorite games of all time. I was driving in and as we drove up 460 - a UVa fan had hung a disparaging banner on the overpass leading into Tech, and since traffic was at a stand-still - I put the car in park, ran up the embankment and cut down the sign to whoops and hollars and honking horns.

Saw Tech lose its Homecoming game to Temple in 1998 - but hey - it was Tech - we do lose a few, but beat Bama in the bowl game that year.

I stood - read this - STOOD for 4 quarters of football in 2007 to watch Matt Ryan in the final 2+ minutes come back from 10-0 score to win the game - did I leave with 4 or 5 minutes left because in traditional VT weather, no team could possibly come back? No - not even the number 2 in the country - when they had not done ANYTHING against us thus far could manage it, but I did stare in disbelief as it happened. It was a long ride back to Richmond to be at work the next morning.

The following week - after the GT win, I knew we had a shot at the ACC Championship, and pre-ordered my license plate ACC X2 - I FELT it - we would not lose to BC again - and went crazy at our win.

I attended the 2010 Thursday win over GT and ordered ACC X4 the next day - certain to replace ACC X3 I was currently sporting until December.

Last year - I had the same feeling as I did in 2007 - but unfortunately it did not materialize and I had to let my ACC X5 reservation slip, but all is not lost Hokies - we still can win the ACC this year, and win or lose, even if we lose out the year - I am a FAN - and will be until I die.

has gotten burned badly when he has been forced to step up. Clearly he has a ton of potential, but I just don't think he's ready to be the guy. Forcing him onto an island would be a bad move right now, imo. Agree that Exum has higher upside at safety and Bonner has yet to step up, though. Cole has made plays but seems to be a liability in coverage at this point.

Honestly, it's about the same. And I doubt everyone stayed for that whole game either. The only differnence in then and now is that we are losing and not playing well, and people are angry about that and want to take their frustations out by pointing fingers at people.
