I agree with Beer Control. Since the Michael Vick years, 2004 stands out as the team that most exemplified what it meant to be a Virginia Tech football team. That team had all the guts, and if it could have had a healthy tailback early in the year, and a decent left tackle in the Sugar Bowl, they could have really been the story in college football. Jon Dunn, oh how I hate you.

Any season that ends with an ACC title should follow. My fondest memory is the win over Florida State in 2010. Damn shame the Stanford game wrecked it.

Every game that Brandon Flowers stepped on the field was a treat. This season gives me hope, because Kyle Fuller is the closest we have had to those kind of guts since.

Ryan Williams, Darren Evans, and Lee Suggs. Effort to the nth degree.

If only you kids could remember the 94-95 teams. Every now and then they got beat deep, but if you listened on the radio, you would have sworn they were playing midgets. Every play seemed like a tackle for a loss or a sack.

1. 2004 - This was my last football season as a student, and our first in the ACC. A new conference, a disappointing '03, no Marcus Vick, everyone thought we'd suck. We didn't. This team was full of heart and character and laid the foundation for all of the ACC success we've had since. I'll never forget the sun-shower that woke our asses up against WVU, and pouring it on Maryland. We were in the three games we lost to the end, and in another universe we go undefeated and win the national championship.

2. 2010 - If not for the Orange Bowl beat down, this might have been my favorite Tech season ever. The disappointment to start the season set the stage to watch a team grow, mature, and storm through the ACC. We were good enough to go undefeated, and had the Boise game never been moved, we might have.

3. 2007 - For every reason JerseyH0kie said above.

4. 2009 - Ru gonna get you. We didn't win the ACC, but we got to watch one of the best seasons by a Tech running back ever. Also, we smacked that shit out of Tennessee in the Peach Bowl.

5. 2008 - Beating Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl for the BCS win no one talks about was still extremely satisfying. Also, there's this play.

6. 2011 - It was a catch. Even though we lost, the Sugar Bowl was the best away from Lane experience I've had as a Hokie. Bourbon Street was home to memories that'll last a lifetime.

7. 2006 - We didn't make the ACC Championship Game, but by season's end we were the best team in the conference. Going on the road and tooling on eventual champ Wake Forest was the best. Blowing the halftime lead in the Peach Bowl was not. One of the best Tech defenses ever, just never had the offense to balance it out.

8. 2002 - This was back in the day when we'd win all of our tough non-conference games at the beginning of the season, then somehow lose in Big East play. Beating LSU. Those folks squatted on campus in their RVs as early as Wednesday. Seriously, there was a shanty town in the commuter lot. The night before the game was epic, Main Street divided.

9 and 10 . 2003 and 2005 are seasons that I'd forget. (Although MRSTKP and I started dating after the A&M hurrigame.) The teams had mild success on the field, but the character wasn't there.

I think this issue is being handled by the correct authority. It's not cheating, so the NCAA shouldn't get into it. If it is true that a lot of people knew about it and didn't do anything, then they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but punishing the team for something that's only related to the team because of facilities and coaches/former coaches is a little ridiculous IMO. Besides, I think we all know that the death penalty won't be handed out to a revenue sport again.

The B1G on the other hand... well, Penn State as an entity is a part of the B1G. It's not just an athletics thing there.

I'm from Pa and most of those not around the university have no idea how far this goes. The former district attorney for centre county went missing while in the middle of the 2001 and 2003 investigation into Sandusky. His computer was found in the river not far from Harrisburg. The now Govenor of Pa Tommy Boy was the state attorney general at the time and knew about both those cases. The cover up and the length of time to prosecute this goes on and on. They were protecting the football team and Joe. I have a family members who work for the university. They could tell you all kinds of things they knew was going on here. Many employees of the football program suspected something and no one did anything about it. All in the name of protecting Joe's image and the image of the program. If that isn't something for the NCAA to jump in on, then why have the NCAA. It's more than just recruiting and players. It's also includes coaching staffs and anything that is tied to the program. Why do you think the Gov waited till last year to finally start the process. They were waiting for Joe's last year and to make his record. If that isn't a shame too, I have know idea what is. That's why it goes much deeper than what one might read in the papers. I'm not a fan but did have great respect for Joe until I heard his quote about not doing more. That to me tells me he knew and had known for some time. Why don't you think Joe didn't name him as his predecessor. Remember the one victim talking about how Jer was so down from his meeting with Joe. Joe knew then and what the impact it would have had on him and the program. They did what they could do to keep it quite for as long as they could. I comend the reporter from the Patriot News who finially uncovered it all and forcing the hand of the Gov to get it going.

i know, i would love a hat if it was the same style as the helmets. those things are just awful though

wonder if the one on the right will be for our pro combats this year. . .
