After watching the highlights of several of the running backs on the above list, the one that really caught my eye was Keyante Green. Now before I continue, I'm just a college kid and not by any means a legitimate evaluator of talent, but from what I saw this kid stood out. He had several long TD's, and what most impressed me was that it just seemed like the other team couldn't get him down, no matter how many bodies were trying to drag him to the ground. I specifically compared his highlights to Derrick Green's, and I was far more impressed by Keyante. This could be because he was playing behind a better o-line/against worse competition etc, but does anyone know where we stand with this kid or anything along those lines???

I was asking about PT/Redshirting- the thought popped in my head maybe he wanted to see the field right away at the QB spot. I like the idea of him taking in the system for two years in order to develop as well but sometimes a kid wants to see the field right away and with LT3's last year of eligibility plus another year behind Leal, it would make no sense for him to come to Tech if he only wants to stay on the college level three to four years or feels he can be an impact player right from day one. Though I am speculating, it could be a logical explanation as to why we haven't offered him yet, hence why I asked if anyone knew the recruit's feelings on the matter.

understand what you're saying .. or asking .. but some positions/players can get ready/are ready to play as true freshman.

For a QB to expect to play immediately in a BCS conference is pretty crazy. Unless you're GT's QB .. I mean really. Bucky would be looking at redshirting for a year, likely learning under LT and Leal .. and then possibly sitting behind Leal with cleanup time for a season .. with 3 seasons of eligibility left. That method seems to work, though Leal could end up starting 2 years I believe.

vthokie49- I agree with you on UVA. I think that they are making strides in the right direction but I don't see them getting much better at all. In fact, with some of their top guys graduating I can see them taking a step back in the division.

Though my knowledge is scant on the recruit, could it be a desire to start right away or a true dislike of the idea of redshirting? To have a QB with that much developing hype reminds me of this young QB we got out of Hampton in 2007....not saying same playing style, just hype. I hope we do take a good long look and I have faith the staff will and will then decide what is best for the program.

clark was hurt early & maybe some doghouse too.

tweedy got a high ankle sprain midway thru the season that didn't fully heal til the bowl. so the shot about him not playing more is inaccurate.

But Tech has done very well with the higher rated prospects. For example, since 2002, Tech has landed three Rivals 5 stars, Marcus Vick, Macho Harris and Tyrod Taylor. I think all three were very good players while in school. Also, I looked at the 4 star recruits from 2002-2009 and there are some really big-time players. Names like Jonathan Lewis, Xavier Adibi, Chris Ellis, Vince Hall, Sean Glennon, Eddie Royal, Stephen Friday, Jason Worilds, John Graves, Blake DeChristopher, Cris Hill, DJ Coles, Dyrell Roberts, Bruce Taylor, Ryan Williams, Jayron Hosley, Logan Thomas and David Wilson are on that list. That is a a very good list of players over an eight year recruiting period. I think this is proof that 4 and 5 stars are needed in the program. If you go down the list of 3 stars and less, of course there have been some really good players that have proven the stars don't matter. However, the ratio of hits to misses is much higher with 4 and 5 stars than the 3 or less.

Tackles For Loss 37th in the country

This has to improve. Those negative plays put other teams behind the sticks and give them more opportunities for turnovers. I thought that the two weaknesses of the defense were forcing turnovers and causing negative plays in the running game. Those have to improve, especially against junk offenses like Clemson.

I don't see Tweedy or JWG at rover. This isn't the wide tackle six. The rover has a ton of man coverage responsibilities. Even Exum struggled in man coverage. Frankly, if Clark or Tweedy were thought of by the coaching staff as good football players, they would have been on the field much more than last year. Now, if you are selling me on Edwards playing whip, Taylor at backer, and Tyler at mike... that I can get behind. My only worry would be if Taylor would be as an effective blitzer from backer as he was at mike.

it definitely helps as far as sheer numbers and being able to go more in-depth with our targets, but harder to sell "come here and contribute sooner" with huge class right before was my thinking. Hopefully Frank and Co. can really narrow down their target list and get their guys, though. A good VA class means more in state battles with UVA, and I'm thinking if we crush them again (which we should, I just don't see them getting that much better this next year) I don't know if London can peddle those tears of change to the top kids again.

This way going into 2013 we can target needs with much more attention. Focusing on 16 guys versus 28 allows for more research, involvment, etc in the recruiting process. I'm excited and hope we fill the lineage of Fuller's. You'd hope All three big brothers would try to pull Kendall in.

Basically they (NCAA / Tech) need to determine how much eligibility (if any) he lost while at community college, then he needs to apply to, and be accepted at Tech, then he can walk onto the team.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Agreed. I think where schools make a mistake is letting coaches go to soon. Greenbergs early success came from players that really weren't considered top talent by most. It was a surprise how well some of those guys like Jamon, Zabian, Coleman, and Washington played. Really Delaney was the first big time recruit for us and he just happened to get in at a time where we couldn't get the 'GODS' of the NCAA selection committee to respect us. Polls kill sports! Look at Murray State. 23-0 and ranked in the top 10. That means that to the guys who rank these teams they can beat the other 300 plus behind them? 11 of their wins come from conference play in the OVC! But back to Greenberg, more time yes. Each year we are getting better talent and he does deserve the chance to show he can coach it. In 3 years if he has the talent with no results then you know it is time for a change.

Blue Collar- I agree, particularly if this class which was top ten (again....YAWN) cannot even win the Conference in the next four years. I can see a scenario where he becomes Randy 2.0: competes every odd year (gets a preseason top 7 ranking one year) and is a true non-factor for the other two even years before getting the 'ole boot out the door (that's barring the sanctions as well). I think he is taking them in the right direction but we all said that about Shannon as well when he took over if I remember correctly. If Miami gets blasted with sanctions then I think, regardless of what he says in the media to the press, he starts prepping that resume and looking for a HC or even coordinator position somewhere outside the ACC. Either way, you're right: I think the clock is ticking.

"Tick, tock. Tick, tock."

We have lost 7 of the games this year by a total of 18 points, less than one 3 pointer a game. We were leading #1 Syracuse and North Carolina, Kansas State and Minnesota in the 2nd half. We are young, plus getting younger and better with the two recruits next year. Best thing about freshman is they grow up and become sophmores. Raines is playing better, just needs to stop fouling so he can be on the court more. Greenberg is the one who got us here and deserves to enjoy the good times that are ahead.

in thru admissions. no one is quite sure how much work he still needs to do to get in.

Especially the longer he waits, the more likely he goes somewhere else.

I think Bucky Hodges is another possibility. VT has been recruiting him hard for a while and shown him special attention by not going after other QB prospects. Also, QBs don't typically wait deep into their senior years as compared to other positions.

we didn't sign such a huge class this year. With VA being so well represented in the top 100 and our needing to sign a bunch of OL, hopefully it doesn't end up hurting us. I'm guessing we'll still take ~16 of so guys, so hopefully we can be more selective and get the guys we want.

Frank offered him to walk on so I assume he'll be there this summer/fall.

Being the son of a man who's suffered through ptsd for 40 some odd years, I've gotta say he seems to be dealing with it really well. The fact that he's so open and honest about everything speaks volumes. He's been through things the rest of us can hardly understand and his therapy is football. It's really cool.

I am rooting hard for this dude.

Can he get on the field though?

Welker is smaller and quicker than Coale, which is why he works out of the slot (and was a RB at the start of his college career). Coale runs more deep routes and routes down the field. Again, it's not a perfect comparison because Welker and Coale have played in completely different offenses (Welker in the Air-Raid/NFL-modified spread, Coale in the Stiney/O'Cain combo platter) but they don't really have a ton in common other than whiteness. I think that if Welker were more of a deep threat, he'd be used as such.

As a Steelers fan, Coale reminds me game-wise of young Hines Ward- both are about the same size (Ward is 6'0, 205), reliable hands, go over the middle, block well, and get open despite not being terribly fast. Up until this year, Ward was still able to get open fairly consistently. I'm not saying he's Ward 2.0, just that's who he reminds me of the most.

Danny's got speed just not elite speed. I'm sure he's faster than plenty of pro WRs, but yeah he got caught alot. It made the end of Nebraska more intersting

Made the comparison of DC to Danny Amendola, maybe a little bit closer. But saying that Danny Coale is faster than any Pro WR just doesnt make sense to me seeing as on just about every deep ball he catches, he almost gets caught..

Somebody buy this man a turkey leg and a beer... And get him on a good football team.

I've seen stuff on this man before and, like everyone else, have been thoroughly impressed and amazed at him. Again, like others, I think that he would make a strong addition to the football team and I hope that Beamer truly sees this and is willing to give him a real chance at a spot on the team.

I may have missed it in the Rather piece: does anyone have an idea of when he might get in to VT?
