Week 5 Other Games Thread
Discussion for college football going on around the country.
Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
Discussion for college football going on around the country.
Not sure if everyone saw this come buried in their emails, but I know myself and other members have expressed desire for a program such as this one:
You now have the option to select a dollar amount to pledge for each touchdown VT scores this year.
Finally a little incentive and fun way for me to donate based on production!
We know game day is getting close when they announce #25!
2๏ธโฃ5๏ธโฃ ALERT ๐จ @Brian15Johnson owns a streak of 15 straight made FGs dating back to 2019!๐๐ฝ https://t.co/NbeccKHjBk#HardHatMentality ๐ท๐ฝโโ๏ธ pic.twitter.com/iejCxcyu9Lโ Virginia Tech Football (@HokiesFB) October 1, 2020
He did a damn good job on such short notice. Nice to see him get recognition for it.
Noon games are generally not liked but the good news is the game is on ABC so the production quality shouldn't be absolute crap.
Other ACC games that week:
Friday, Oct. 9
Louisville at Georgia Tech, 7 p.m., ESPN (previously announced)
Saturday, Oct. 10
NC State at Virginia, Noon, ACC Network
Duke at Syracuse, 12:30 p.m., RSN
Pitt at Boston College, 4 p.m., ACC Network
Miami at Clemson, 7:30 p.m., ABC
Florida State at Notre Dame, 7:30 p.m., NBC (previously announced)
Virginia Tech moved up even further than MSU, however, thanks to a truly dominant performance against NC State. SP+ projected the Hokies to win by nearly two touchdowns, and not only did they win by 21, it could have been far worse. They averaged 9.6 yards per play to the Wolfpack's 4.2 in the first half and let their foot off the gas a bit in the second.
Another interesting couple of paragraphs:
When was the last time we have had O-line play this good? I am honestly curious. Jake Grove days?
So how good was the VT defense yesterday? Who knows 1 data points isn't enough, but well lets fudge some numbers and make us sound awesome. Toot, Toot, here comes the hype train!
One of the issues VT has had in the past is giving up big plays. So how did VT do?
15 Plays of 10+ yards
3 plays of 20+ yards
2 plays of 30+ yards
After beating N.C. State, Tech drops five spots to the first in "Others receiving votes".
Don't have the full poll because I'm on mobile.
Others receiving votes:
Virginia Tech 195, Louisiana-Lafayette 126, * Minnesota 110, * USC 104, Kansas State 60, SMU 37, Marshall 31, Baylor 22, * Iowa 16, * Utah 14, Virginia 12, Arkansas State 11, UAB 5, Washington 4, Kentucky 4, Louisville 4, Army 3
I am giving the film a watch this morning. Some thoughts (hopefully that will tantilize the tastebuds of folks thinking about TKPC membership.)
1) OL responded despite rotating 7 guys early in the game at multiple positions. When the scheme called for lateral movement (Burmeister), they delivered. When the scheme called for power (Quincy) and more pass pro, they delivered. Footwork and engaging at the second level were vastly improved. I think Duke (who has two fantastic DEs) will be a bigger test, and Fuente has owned Tony Gibson-coached defenses. But, this is a good start.
Dear Dave,
You were once upon a time, our grandpa. Our Werther's bestie, finding that little coin behind our ears, and handing us a Werther's candy with a smile. Sure, we would play some oh so close games, and had a 4OT thriller, but we were always friends.
Until 2019.
No, I'm not borrowing your riding mower.
No, I don't want your candy.
You had the nerve to cut us while we were down.
Not this time Dave. If that's your real name.
Oh, and here's the receipt for the cake we got you before the game last year.
Really wish they had punched it in for that last 7.
Great effort by the boys in the face of some adversity being down 23 players.
I didn't see where anyone had started a thread for other games this week. So here it is!
Much like Bruce Wayne, sitting in my office on a cold, dreary, and rainy day; I noticed a signal. I must accept that responsibility and answer the call.
Back by popular demand, and when I say demand, I mean one person (looking at you gobble gobble chumps), and when I say "popular", I mean that he's a TKP regular and has Nien Nunb as an avatar, so you can't get more popular than Star Wars.
For those missing Podcast Ain't Played Nobody, the boys are back on the new podcast Split Zone Duo, the podcast that has played somebody.
There will be no win requirements to play in a bowl this season, if approved by NCAA's Council next month. So we potentially could have a winless team go bowling!โ Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) September 24, 2020
So this means if Tech wants to it already has bowl streak to 28 years already.

Virginia Tech athletics launched its Virtual Sellout campaign on Wednesday, Sept. 23, an initiative in partnership with Coca-Cola designed to offer Hokie fans the opportunity to purchase a virtual seat, row, or section in Lane Stadium for this fall while providing exclusive items and access to commemorate the 2020 football season.
All proceeds from the season-long Virtual Sellout campaign will go to support Virginia Tech student-athletes and help mitigate the forecasted budget deficit as a result of COVID-19.
So with all the sports not allowing fans throughout the summer, it was refreshing to hear some college football schools were going to allow 20-25% capacity (mainly southern schools), so being recently single, I decided to do visit a new college town/univeristy for the new couple of months during weekends where they football team had a home game and allowed fans.
