Fuente talked in pretty good detail about the state of the defense for this game, including having so many players out. The interview gave quite a bit of insight into what the coaching staff was thinking during the game.
Richard, Alex, and Godfrey spent about 4 and a half minutes talking about VT this week. These are probably my three favorite commentators in CFB because they do a good job of storytelling while only dishing luke-warm, level headed takes. I like to share whenever they talk Hokie Football. VT talk starts at about the 9:00 minute mark:
1. We are 3 games into the season and we're averaging almost 300 yards per game on the ground, led by a bona fide stud who is averaging 150 yards a game on only 15 touches.
2. Speaking of said stud...Herbert has topped 100 yards in three consecutive games, the first time the Hokies had anybody go for a bill in three straight games since Travon McMillon's 2015 games against Duke, BC, and Georgia Tech (McMillon was 5 yards short of 5 straight games, against NC State and Miami)
3. At no point, would I ever say I am upset at this team averaging 42.7 ppg - incredulous that this has been done with a quarterback who isn't as much a threat to throw the ball as another on the team.

Our first one of the year and it's a doozie. I'm pretty pissed we left Burmeister in for the first half and HH proved in the second half he should be the unquestioned QB1 going forward. However....this defense is bad. It's been bad all year and I can't blame COVID for how bad we were manhandled by UNC (and even Duke, but we were saved because they have a crappy QB). I don't care about sacks, I care about stops and this JHam scheme isn't cutting it so far. Maybe he needs his guys in there, but right now he doesn't have them so he needs to adjust. As much as I'd like to blame depth and COVID, the D just got smoked and that falls on Hamilton.
Defensively, goes without saying. We couldn't stop anything. Worst defensive effort I've ever seen out of Virginia Tech.
Offensively, just plain ugly as well. Purposely handcuff ourselves by not playing Hooker for the entire first half and only giving Herbert one carry for the entire first quarter. Mind boggling personnel decisions based on how the game played out.
And 3 unsportsmanlike penalties with one ejection as the icing on the cake.
Just a bad, bad day in the office. Not sure where to go from here. At this point, I'm not mad at the result. I'm so disappointed that it's hard to be mad. This is what VT has become.
Allowing only 108 total yards on the ground through their first two games, the UNC defense appears to be the toughest matchup the Hokies will face in the trenches, but as the saying goes, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
For those first two games, the Tar Heels opponents were Syracuse and Boston College, which traditionally would be an impressive feat.
Given the circumstances regarding the last time VT and UNC squared off in a ranked matchup down in Chapel Hill, the end result of the matchup, and then the excuses that ensued; I thought this might be a fun parody of our "Hatin' On" series leading into the weekend.
Looking at the weather, it appears Mother Nature wants a rematch of the 2016 Hurricane Matthew matchup. Who knows the severity, but I know it doesn't take much moisture to make UNC melt.
Good morning everyone. This week's film review is a monster, covering the continuance of technique evolution and attitude in the offensive line play, potential overburden on James Mitchell, and a mini SWOT on the defensive front seven. Frankenstein ended up being over 4000 words, and I ended up cutting out some other observations. Here is a brief idea of what you will find in the film reviews (with film added for demonstration purposes) as a TKPC member.

(Disclaimer: Any mention of win/loss records in this thread is strictly conference records.)
Normally by this time of year, I'm already figuring out who needs what help to get to the ACCCG. Obviously, normal is thrown out the window this year. We might not even be able to get the usual circles of suck.

COVID has been kicking our tails so far this year and we've made it through, but a big game is coming. What do we have for the coach that iced his own kicker against us last year??
