Basketball Forum
I know after seeing this title you were probably wondering if our basketball team is going to wear black uniforms at some point in the year. Well, this isn't the case.
I was on Twitter earlier reading a conversation between fellow Hokie fans. They were talking about how Florida State was wearing black uniforms tonight. One Hokie fan brought up that the Tech basketball team wore black uniforms once.
That was apparently against Pittsburgh during the 2003-04 season. I tried to find images from this game, but couldn't. If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. I am a uniform junkie, and I am very curious as to what this looked like.

Didn't see any threads going and figured it was worth discussing. For those that haven't seen, we lost 68-66 after trailing by 19 at half.

Random thoughts:
If they play with half as much energy in the first half that they did in the second half we may well have won this thing.
Hats off to that 2nd half effort though, without JVZ out there they scrapped and battled for loose balls hit some clutch shots against that Cuse zone.

It'll be fun to see what his role and its scope is.
It's not happening.

Are we improving? Here are the numbers compared to this time last year in stats/per game.
Record: (Us/Them)
14-15: 8-5
13-14: 8-5
Scoring: Down from last year, but scoring D is doing better
14-15: 69.2-64.5
13-14: 74.0-69.2
Rebounds: (Total/Off/Def) Our rebounding is decidedly worse, particularly on the defensive end, but our opponents are doing no better against us
14-15: 32.6/9.2/23.9 vs 34.9/13.6/21.3
13-14: 41.4/10.9/30.5 vs 34.7/11.5/23.2
Assist/Turnovers: Down from last year, but not as bad as our opponents, due primarily to better ball control on our part
14-15: .855-.809
13-14: .914-1.198

Following two solid performances, Bibbs picked up the honor yesterday as voted on by the ACC Media Panel. He had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in the game against VMI and 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal against Presbyterian to help the Hokies in two wins last week. Its nice to see that the hard work Bibbs has been putting in is finally being recognized by the media outside of Blacksburg.
Bibbs is also second in scoring among Freshmen in the ACC, trailing only Jahlil Okafor from Duke, who is on track to be a lottery pick next NBA Draft.

The Hokies may be forced to employ a slightly larger lineup than normal in this game. Presbyterian comes in depending on scoring from its forwards, center and wing players to do much of its scoring. They work the ball into the lane to take high percentage shots. Its a surprisingly big roster for such a small school, although some of them are just bodies rather than basketball players, hence their four and eight record so far this year.

The Hokies come in to todays game having won their last contest over Alabama A&M 65-55, in a game that saw Buzz Williams send out some very unexpected lineups. That could continue today against The Citadel, who comes in 4-5, after a loss to Chattanooga. This team is much more talented than Alabama A&M, so Tech needs to be ready to defend better than they did in their last game.

So my granddaughter is in the 3rd grade at Gilbert Linkous in Blacksburg. Apparently, so is Coach Buzz's son. Buzz has already came to their class about 4 times this school year to read books to the kids. In addition, he has handed out little cards to each kid. The card has the Hokies' hoops schedule on the back, with a motivational sports picture and quote on the front. He also autographs each one right in front of each kid. The kids love it and it is an example of a great role model for sure.
Just for comparative purposes, my granddaughter was classmates last year with Jeff Grimes' son, and I don't recall Jeff coming to class. Not saying it didn't happen, but my granddaughter never mentioned it.

Pathetic showing in a LOSS TO RADFORD today. The highlanders were picked to finish third in a weak Big South conference. Another 50% day from the FREE throw line. Sadly, that's 22% better than the FREE throw percentage against Penn State. Still no tough guys on this roster. We have weak minded individuals who don't feel they can step to the line and sink some FREE throws . Inexcusable to be this bad from the CHARITY stripe.

Both teams come into this New River matchup 4-3. Tech lost a disappointing game to Penn State, falling 61-58, missing a three pointer at the Buzzer. Radford comes in off a 57-46 win over Texas A&M Corpus Cristi. The records may be the same but the competition level has been quite different between these two teams.

Hello All,
On this fine website we all frequent there used to be a section before football games that was called "The Mascot Mock." It was a beloved tradition up to the point where we forgot about it, resurected it, immediately lost an important game, and then imediately burried it, scortched and then salted the earth where the dead body of the Mascot Mock lay. This little forum post is decidedly not that.
I was talking to one of my friends about why it is better to have only one mascot. The answer would seem to be the obvious "branding" but who really cares about that, right? It's time to talk about characterization!

The Hokies travel to State College to take on the Nittany Lions. Both teams come in on wins, the Hokies having dispatched Morgan State 83-63 and Penn State having beaten Bucknell 88-80. The Nittany Lions also went 2-1 over the holidays in the Charleston Classic, losing in the first round in a surprising 106-97 double overtime loss to the Charlotte 49ers.
