In Northern Virginia its on the second CW channel, CSN has the Syracuse/Georgia Tech game. Right now GT is up 21-14 three quarters of the way through the first half. Syracuse better wake up or they are going to end up a 7/8 seed in the tournament.
Amaro was a monster on film.
Not really Lane Stadium specific but more of a game day experience.
I would like to see an area marked off for the kids maybe with some moon bounces, Blow up field goal, and a place for them to throw the football. The Hokie Bird should be in that area along with some of the cheerleaders and if not by the cheerleaders, some group doing some face painting. Next to the kids section I would mark off a section for the MVs, Highty Tighties, and specifically mark off a place for the skipper cannon so that people can learn of our history and be a part of it. This would all go towards creating a game day experience that Whit spoke of.
Thanks y'all! Martin Rickman who asked me if I'd be willing to participate is a friend and terrific writer. He's one of the more relaxed voices writing about college football. If you want less HOT SPORTS TAKES (i.e. the crap served up by folks like Skip Bayless), I recommend you check out Martin's work.
I know we've had the student ticket discussion before, and I don't want to restart it. But wouldn't that polarize the students even more. The people that already are fans and scream their face of do stay late. The marginal fans that leave early would then be less likely to get tickets and go even less. At the end of the day I don't think the student ticket system is the problem with Lane being less crazy.
I do think this thread is a good place to discuss ideas to make things more fun and engaging for those that aren't crazy about the game itself. I'm guessing here, but I would bet students are the minority in Lane. If we want to make the entire atmosphere better it falls on the alumni too. Granted I'm still young and feel like a student, but shouldn't we work just as hard to encourage the people we sit around to get up and go bananas? If I act like a crazy person it will only make more people do the same, and it will spread.
So my idea to make Lane better is to be the model fan, whoever you are and where ever you sit, and encourage the people around you to do the same.
I did neither of these things...so somewhere between when HOAT was a freshman and 06 they got rid of the fan support seminar and sometime after 06 they started letting frosh run through the tunnel... :(
^this
Beat me to it.
This is weak.
Well, that might be too strong a statement. But when I came in as a freshman in 2000, we definitely did this. And it was fun.

# | Men's BBall: Virginia Tech (9-19) at Maryland (15-14) at Comcast Center at 8pm ESPN3 Anyone know what channel this game will be on in Blacksburg? Hokiesports says ACCN, but that's either CBS, CW, or CSN. So if anyone knows which one of those it'll be I'd appreciate it.
I had them last spring break. The duck fat fries are very good.
It's like a secret how good potatoes are with duck fat.
just think, someday we'll be able to say we knew joe way back when.
Great job Joe! We'll make a tight end out of you yet.
not as of 2 yrs ago when I was a freshman. they do have welcome picnic in lane before school starts where you get to run through the tunnel, the coaches introduce themselves and they have you practice jumping to enter sandman
That's a heck of an idea.
Only if there is 0 effective additional friction and the ground, he is lifting the lb straight up and the LB isn't pushing back so that the combined force is not more than 455 lb and there is no more sideways force than while lifting.

Do they still have a football fan orientation during freshman orientation? I seem to recall being in an auditorium with some folks who taught us all the cheers, fight songs, when to jingle keys, and the like.
I think we can help the 'stay late' cause by allowing people to swipe their hokie passports at the end of the game. Those people that can be verified as folks that don't leave early should be given priority in the ticket lottery.
That is, assuming there is still a ticket lottery and that your ticket it attached to your hokie passport, which you would be able to swipe on the way in.
Hot wings the size of turkey legs.
AKA just dip turkey legs in harlicky sauce.
Yes, I will upvote this.
Disappointing to hear about these guys not panning out on the field. Seems like it was just a year or two they came in. I guess it was four.
That is AWESOME.
Am I the only one who wants to bitch slap most of the commenters on this article?

Do I make a Stick It In joke here?
