What is the trend nationally? Has there been a migration towards more passing vs running?
I usually re watch the games - not this one - mostly due to the coverage.
at one point HeyVerne actually babbled the point that essentially it doesn't really matter if teams go to bowl games or not and Gary didn't argue the point at all. And that was about the 20th worst part of the broadcast.
Back in NCAA '06, after I got through the first couple of seasons and all of the starters left, I thought I was toast. So I just started running the ball. I was just going to do it until someone stopped me. 14-0, National Champs.
I'm hoping that we can stop with the five yard pitch backs. Every time I saw that play, LT would toss the ball back 5 yards to the runner, who would run really hard up to the line of scrimmage and get stuffed, because the defense had those extra five yards to get ready for him.

Right but they red-shirted because the guy in front of them had actual playing time and significant minutes. We literally are starting from scratch, but this time Leal has seen the playbook
My comment was more on the fact that Maryland was lighting people up at the beginning of the year. If they stayed healthy and didn't have the injuries they had, they were the shockers of the ACC. They got hit with injuries and lost a lot of games.
Even many other teams that are doing well, if they get hit by the injury bug, they stop winning games, they aren't able to build consistency. I'm not labeling it as an excuse, or a "it's understandable we lost". I'm labeling it as "shit happens" and injuries cause inconsistency. There's no offense or defense in college or the pro's that's simply "plug and play", particularly when that offense or defense relies on a couple players as the keystone to the offense. Those players go out, and it takes a bit to find rhythm again.
I'd also like to point out that while one of the freshmen may indeed win the starting job, players benefit tremendously from a redshirt year. Winston, Manziel, even Vick are examples.
Also, in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers sat for two full years before even taking a meaningful snap.

Look man, the point is, I have been around the program since 1995. Others here on TKP for longer. Some for a lot longer.
I know my time is not overly long. However, I now know about the program's history even before my time and I personally have never seen any single football player be worse on and off the field, as well as after he left, for Virginia Tech than Marcus Vick.
No, I have not interviewed and researched every Hokie football player in existence but I would like to think that I, or others on here with an even deeper knowledge of VT, would have read, heard someone say something or would be able to refute the simple fact that Marcus Vick has been the worst Hokie in the history of the football team.
I think the fact that you can't find a single name to even put up as argument should indicate something to you though.
Don't forget the problems the o-line had last year giving Thomas a shotgun snap that didn't require him to bend down and get it, effectively interrupting his ability to read right off the snap.
Go back and look at film an see just how many times he had to get the ball off his shins.

I'd argue it was worse in 2006 when He Who Shall Not Be Named was booted off the team and Glennon took over.

well maybe not garbage but he def is not a starting QB by any means. And for him to take a swipe after Logan is moronic after what happened a few days ago.
Didn't ND's starting QB transfer mid-way into September in the last of the Charlie Weis years? It could also have been in the first year that Kelly was the head coach. That was good for a few LULz at the time. I think he could see the writing on the wall after he was benched for the new kid.
The important thing is that the misery of ND fans is delicious.
Mhm lets look at the QB's ahead of when these players were freshmen
Manziel- Ryan Tannehil completed 152 of 234 passes (65.0 percent) for 1,638 yards and 13 touchdowns
Andrew Luck- Josh Nunes, Rs Junior Played 10 games 1,643 passing yards, 10 TDs and 124 completions in 235 attempts
Jameis Winston- EJ Manuel threw for 2,666 yards and 18 touchdowns with just eight interceptions...
Marcus Mariotta- Darron Thomas 211-339-7Int's 62.2 % completion2761 yards 33 TD's
You see each of those incoming Fr had good Qb's ahead of them and didn't need to play right away. Leal is not a starter and its an open battle
My concern is that if you want to run a 3 TE set, they need to block and of those 3, only one is a decent blocker. I'd rather we just take backup linemen and line them up like a TE on those plays so we can impose our will. If you're going to put 8 on the line, you aren't going to throw it except on a play action to catch the other team off guard so having players that are better receivers as TEs doesn't matter as much.
When all else fails, yell at the refs for not handing you the game. That was a clear as day PI call and all he wanted to do was whine about it for the next 4 plays.
I heard that a rumored transfer QB has been going around the team, JC hinted at it a few days back. My guess is it could be Tyler Murphy (Loeffler was his main recruiter at Florida) but we'll see.

That's not a troll comment. Calling a kid who has dedicated 4 years to our program with limited field time "GARBAGE" is more of a troll comment, sorry to say.
The main point is the following. None of us know jack squat about what is going to happen next year. We're not in the meeting rooms and we're not on the practice field. We can waste a lot of keystrokes trying to prognosticate and defend our favorite players, but until spring practice and the spring game roll around and we see for ourselves, it's all pretty much hand-waving. The guy that the coaches believe will succeed will be on the field. Until that choice is made, let's avoid hyperbole and fights against each other.
agree- on the whole they were more prepared. Their offense is FAST - Cheap shot or not - it would've been a tough game with LT. Wouldve liked a clean fight but they are good and over-hating on them is pointless.
