FWIW, look at how their RBs did in 2012. The top 2 averaged about 6 ypc, much like this year. Problem was, the QB couldn't convert a 3rd down and the defense couldn't stop anyone, so the running game was all but abandoned by the second half.

You my friend might be one of the trolls on AB's blog. Are you kidding me about the Beamer comment, Leal is GARBAGE, and will always be a backup QB. Your comment alone says it, if Leal was good then Beamer would have played him, but he is not. Leal is just as good as Ford or Durkin at this point for all its worth.

I wouldn't be surprised if Motley isn't the starter, CFB and Lefty had high praise for him after the spring game and seems to be a better fit for what we want to do.

Right...I understand the running backs aren't the only ones to blame....many things factor into it. The talent of the RB's, the quality of the OL...the QB play, the play calling, etc. Putting all that aside, the Hokies need to find a way to run the ball. No matter what the reason is, we need to run the ball better. 119 yards a game is just flat out pathetic for this team and our style of play. I find hope in the turnaround that Auburn had in their running game this season. Grimes recruited the Auburn OL....

Probably because they don't want to blame the defense for getting blown up and the coaches for Leal being completely unprepared.

Note: I don't blame Leal for being unprepared. I do think that the position should be open for competition, but he is in front right now.

Malleck can block, Cline got better as the year went on and will have a full off-season to learn. The only unknown would be Bucky. I agree that if they can't block it's completely pointless.

In NCAA '14, I can pretty much run the ball at will to the point of opponents quitting the game early. Wish we could do that in real life.

Ok (and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you here), but there are some that might disagree.

I think our coaches are dying to have a strong running game again. Loeffler seems to favor a balanced attack that begins with the run. But unlike his predecessors, I think we are all hoping he is more creative and knowledgeable. There is no reason we can't play smashmouth football like we used to and also have a more sophisticated passing attack. We can do more than a Boston College offense because we have athletes. Players like Carlis Parker for example have so much speed and moves and are just starting to be used (anyone remember his HS tape, it was out of control).

I think back to the year we played Boise State (sorry to bring it up). They had Doug Martin running behind a good Oline and Kellen Moore picking defenses apart. They used their tight ends really well and killed everyone with speedy receivers (Titus and Pettis) running short/intermediate crossing routes. Kellen Moore was smart and accurate, but not NFL prospect size. Chris Peterson was really creative. I think Andrew Ford could be similar to Kellen Moore (although bigger).

Record aside, I just want to see a 2014 where we can get excited when Tech has the ball and the offense shows lots of promise for the future. Then in 2015-2016 I want to hear Mark May talk about how the Virginia Tech offense finally grew up. And then I want to have a TKP tailgate at the NC game.

No I'm not his friend (although I may or may not have had a class with a dude that may or may not have enjoyed some natural substances that are considered legal in CO with MV5 & his older bro).
