I'm still trying to figure out why they have a Stanford only blog. I understood when Luck was the cut and dry #1 draft pick, but they aren't Notre Dame so I don't get why it's still around.

you make great points, but HD's article isn't singling out any one team. She's discussing the conference as a whole and even mentions the Miami-FSU game as if it already happened. I don't expect ESPN to have that type of coverage on every team...or any team really. But HD's job is focused around the ACC. I don't think it's too much to ask for her (and she represents ESPN) to at least try doing her job. She literally only has to do the ACC... and nothing else, and she can't even do that well.

In defense of ESPN (as a whole, not HD), they put the most effort towards the stories the most people care about. If they wanted to provide TKP-level coverage for every school, they could, but that would be a poor business decision. If we were undefeated with a freshman QB who was putting up Heisman worthy numbers, more viewers would care, and we'd be getting just as much pub as FSU. But we're 6-2, and not exactly lighting up the offensive stat sheet. It's a business.

I'll be at this game with two of my kids and my daughter's bf! Yep, weather should clear up, and just hope the Hokies put on a better performance than they did last week (and last year @ BC).

Anybody else going?

I don't know if consistency is right word. The running backs have been consistent. Just not in the way we would hope.

I would like us to show more commitment to the running game. Let the running backs take the pounding instead of LT.

Boston College gets the points
Wisconsin
Michigan State at home
Georgia
Texas Tech
Florida State

In the field position battle we can win.
Hughes is a good punter and periodically great. He averages 44+ yds per punt.
The BC punter averages 41+ yds per punt.

If we can get our returners to average what BC allows, 5 yds per punt and we can get some tackling, if we hold them to under 8 yds per return, every yard moves us 1 more down towards their end.

A couple first downs and we can keep them backed up and win that field position battle.
Less long drives and it means less opportunities for errors to kill long drives.
If we can get the KR to go North South and tackle we can make this a lot easier on the offense.

Ford for 4 year starter.

I would look more at his build than just his weight. Biero and Sam both are good sizes for their height. Sucks that Biero is done for his career, but with Sam, we should be able to say we have a 4 year starter at fullback. It is an underrated position especially if you want to pound the ball. Our fullbacks tended to be former linebackers who just weren't big enough or running backs there weren't fast enough. Considering how well Sam runs, catches and blocks, I'd say we have our first natural fullback since kenny jefferson.

as much as I think everyone here would LOVE for that to happen, it's hard to believe that is actually going to happen. When F.Beamer steps down and S.Beamer takes his place you'll be eating that shirt..

(I wouldn't make you eat it, but a promise is a promise)

Yeah I was wondering if this was a case of Article written, turned in, and was intended to be published Monday but Oops ESPN dropped it Friday.

ODU is going to rise in time anyways. The only thing that will probably hold them back is if Norfolk does not allow ODU to buy the land between the railroad tracks (it really needs to happen over time). This would allow Norfolk to have the buffer (railroad tracks) for security. Having that land will let ODU make a legitimate stadium.

I know they have to make a bigger stadium going into the C-USA so I quickly went to wiki
"ODU has announced plans to build a new on-campus football stadium, with seating for 30,000 expandable to 45,000."

ODU will surpass UVA in football in no time if each continues their path. VT needs to play ODU now to send the message that they are in charge of the state of Virginia.

I've got a crap ton of ODU alumni friends, and I keep telling them how VT-ODU is going to be THE rivalry of VA. ...VT-UVA is going to the wayside. ...at which point one would hope they just go the B1G and stink it up there. (just kidding, I love beating those guys up on an annual basis)

I'd like to think we got our turnovers out of the way, for the rest of the year. Let's just force costly turnovers on the opponent, which the Lunch Pail Defense is doing quite well!

I am tempering my comment.

For the Hokies, Thomas has been at the heart of the teams offensive woes for two years now.

Does she realize he's also at the heart of the offensive successes? There is just not much happening that's not him. Last year or this year.

Take the long pass from our 1 last week. It was a good, long throw to the proper spot. The receiver did not help out Thomas by catching cleanly. He bobbled a ball that should have been handled clean and as a consequence, it was a long pass run out of bounds for a long gain instead of a long pass with TD after it.
WR gets set before the ball is snapped....
Thomas can't be the entire offense. Not everyone can play top notch each and every game. There were a couple games this year where the WR TE and Fullback ( Go Sam Rogers) made excellent catches. And the drives stayed alive.

Look, I know you didn't want to name a " bad coach"

but I've got to. I've GOT to.

Lane Kiffin. There, ...I said it. That guy manages to do less with more and it's absolutely ridiculous.

As far as the rest of your article goes, I'd say you're pretty spot on. Frank and Bud have the Virginia Tech fanbase spoiled (and let me tell you, it's a good thing folks) I've always said it takes a few years to truly gauge a coach, so the jury is still out on Loeffler. But I feel like once he gets the guys he needs to run his kind of system, he'll be okay.

I've really nothing to add to this conversation that hasn't already been stated, I just really wanted to say how bad of a coach Lane Kiffin is, ...and that he has no class.

I did not even click on the link because I don't want to give the site traffic. Unless its fantasy football or stat related I don't go on ESPN any more.

At the rate of their progression right now, I'd say they will be counted as a solid win by the time we actually start playing. They have the air raid down, they just need to recruit better on defense and they will be a very solid team. This program is only a couple years old and has already come a long way fast, I can't wait for this series.
