I agree that he should get more reps. But remember, he got suspended for something at the beginning of the season. So it's very likely that he's still in the doghouse. If he was a senior I'd say screw it and play him anyway. But since he'll be someone that'll be here for at least 2 more years he needs to learn a lesson.
The sooner we get on the board, the better.
I actually read that as "nooner." Sign of the times, I guess...
You're absolutely right. I feel like the GT, Pitt, and UNC games all played out similarly. Each was a bit of a slog, but we controlled everything from the start. Duke turned that plan on its head. Defensively, it seems like we're approaching BC by combining the GT and Pitt game plans (same tactics to stop the run and use Dadi as a wild man). I hope the outcome on Saturday is the same as it was in those games.
Doesn't look like its listed under the ESPN3 options for the WatchESPN app on my phone. Guess I will have to see if I can stream ABC on my phone.
VT has great difficulty when we don't score early in the game. The sooner we get on the board, the better.
Assuming we get the running game going, I have questions about the passing game French. Which receiver do you think poses the biggest mismatch possibility against BC's blitz package between Byrn doing a drag route over the middle, Cline on an out, or Knowles going deep on the sideline or on a post?
Makes me miss Eddie Royal. That dude could find a seam before there was a seam. I remember one kick he brought for a td that he went north south while cutting across to both sides of the sideline
Well, of course everything should still trend toward a good strength of schedule in hopes of making the playoffs when the time comes.
In that light, I guess the best-case scenario is for our conference opponents to be better. And it looks like it's trending that way already.
Link?
And what will they do with the one they just renovated and expanded?
I'd like to see Joel "I'm A Playmaker" Caleb and Trey "Be The Hammer, Not The Nail" Edmunds on KR and Caleb on PR. Save Mangus for the backfield
Why oh why was I not enrolled in this when I was little.
Who? I don't remember any Ryan or Aponavicious...
Must be a mis-post...
Started in 2000? So did I, which department?
Up until this point, the strategy for scheduling has been to schedule:
- 1 major BCS opponent
- 2 mid-level Div 1-A opponent
- 1 Div-1AA/lower level Div1-A opponent
As long as ODU satisfies one of the latter two, I think we'll be fine.
That said, since the BCS is being disbanded after this year, the scheduling strategy might change slightly. Either way, we cannot load up on just high level "BCS" caliber teams for the out of conference schedule. We'd never survive a schedule like that.

Thanks. I've been a bit callous around here the last few weeks, so I figure it might time for a little bad karma to come back around at me.
Spot on with Edmunds, French. He will be a MAJOR factor in pass pro tomorrow. I hope to see a huge dose of him.
Also, what do you think about Mangus coming out of the backfield this week in the passing game? That might be there for the taking with the way BC runs their front.
No clue what that school does. I know UMD does this. PSU loads your football tickets to your card (really reduces the paper airplane throwing).
Agreed. We go as Logan goes. He plays well and the receivers play well, we should win. But BC is a tough team. If we aren't ready for their aggression, it'll be a long afternoon in Chestnut Hill.
Great analysis. I agree totally that above all else they must establish the running game, and avoid third down and long. The other issue too is scoring points early and game flow. If we can get ahead I think LT does better. When behind on the scoreboard, it appears to me he gets too anxious. He feels under pressure to "make plays" and then forces passes into coverage. When ahead, he seems more relaxed, does not force passes, and seems to make better decisions on the field, even under blitzing pressure. So, establish the run game, get ahead early, then control the pace.
This may be a dumb question and yes I've seen his weight from the Hokiesports, but how much does Sam weight? I think over the offseason he's going to have to put on some serious weight. I'd like to see him in the 230's but I'm not so sure that's possible. But I've noticed that Biero and those other guys were more heavier than 217. I think once he hits the offseason workouts and Gentry gets a hold of him I think we can see a better running game next year.
This is great. Not sure where you found it, but one of these for every game would make my life easier. Thanks
I will most likely be at work in DC tomorrow, which falls under the ABC part of the map. Will I still be able to stream it on ESPN3?
In case anyone thinks I am serious, I know this will never happen. I just find the sabermetrics of this interesting.
Clearly, this is the direction we are heading for the Hokie program...This team hasn't punted since 2007...goes for it on 4th down every time and onsides kicks it every time....and WINS. Something to think about...

They will need Knowles to make some plays over the top. Also, I would like to see Coles get more snaps. They started to utilize him more versus Duke, and he has the big body and the technique to gain inside leverage versus man coverage. Logan will have to throw hot reads, and Coles (and Cline) should both be positioned well to get those opportunities.
The challenge is, not only does the offensive line not know who is blitzing, but the quarterback isn't sure who is dropping back into a hot zone. I have watched many good NFL QB's over the years read a blitz, and then throw it into the hands of a defensive end who dropped back on a zone blitz. Logan's biggest weakness is throwing into spots where he probably shouldn't throw.
This game scares the hell out of me. Boston College gave an outstanding Florida State team fits. If they would have had the Hokies corners for a day, they would have beaten the Seminoles. The Eagles absolutely pounded FSU on both sides of the ball, and it took the Eagles poor passing game combined with numerous SUPERMAN plays from Jameis Winston for the Seminoles to pull it out. Boston College has an excellent offensive line, and their defensive front seven gets better. The UNC game was their worst of the season, so after watching it and feeling real good about the Hokies chances, I went to the FSU film and got real nervous.
