Would love to see any of those match ups, or South Carolina.

sb nation has us playing the dawgs in the atl. i'd take a rematch.

I was just telling my dad this evening that I really wish we had another shot at them.

It feels good to get the pat on the back, but you're right. No one player is going to have astronomical numbers, but if and when a player gets an award at the end of the season they will be excepting it one handed. Because they will have a lunch pail full of Hokies in the other.

I'm a student at UCF and would like to see that matchup but a think the Hokies are on their way to a BCS bowl this year.

Against Georgia/Florida/Missouri in Atlanta. Plus, if we go to the Russell Athletic Bowl they probably won't put us against Rutgers again.

Sugar Bowl against Alabama. I don't think it's likely and have no clue how possible it actually is, but I'm rooting for it.

Here's the thing. I think a lot of these guys are looking at the situation like "I'm not concerned with what they're doing on the field right now, I'm concerned with what we're doing on the field 2-3 years from now". They look at UVA as an unfinished product, THEY KNOW THEY SUCK RIGHT NOW but they firmly believe they won't suck when they play there. That's the kool-aid London is selling to these high schoolers.

I think Andrew Brown and Quin Blanding look at it from this standpoint: We've got a 3/4 star QB in the wings with Corwin Cutler. We have an electric 5-star RB in Mizzel who's only a true freshman. Then you have Eli Harold who's admittedly a great football player. Then when you actually watch UVA play right now...they do suck, but there are flashes there. Those flashes are enough to conjure up visions of grandeur. That hope is enough to keep them committed...for now.

It sucks that they're going to Hooville, but luckily the Hokies have made a living on turning 2 and 3 stars into All-Americans. We're a program that doesn't need 5 stars to be successful.

I doubt we'll see too many defenders on All-American lists this year. We'll get a few, but the problem is that everyone is playing so well that no one stands out above the pack. All four starting D-Linemen, both Fullers, Faycson, Jarrett and Tyler could be worth All-American status, but none of them are the undisputed star of the defense the way guys that show up on that list are. Everyone just goes to work on Saturday, does their job and terrorizes opposing offenses. I bet what happens is we get one guy on every All-American list, but it's someone different each time.

How can you notice anything but how hot Heidi Klum is? Is is really possible for a pregnant woman to be that hot? My wife is pregnant right now, and more beautiful that ever I might add, but that right there is unbelievable.

I can't speak for all of the recruiting sites, but generally Rivals 5 star guys end up getting drafted. Obviously they miss on people here and there but there's going to be misses when dealing with 18 year olds. Just looking at last year: http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2013/2013-nfl-draft-first-round-recruits/

17 of the 32 1st rounders were 4 or 5 star guys. It's fun to say that the recruiting sites just look at who SEC teams recruit and make them 5 star guys (and there is some of that, no doubt) but they aren't throwing darts at the wall.

I can't speak to why athletes choose the schools they choose. Some kids want to get on the field as soon as possible, and that's easier to do at UVA than VT. Some kids may not feel they fit Bud Foster's scheme. Some may not want to go to Blacksburg. Some may want to go be with their friends. There's also nothing to keep them from changing their mind as circumstances change. It's annoying but that's how it goes. At one point VT was the inferior program and Beamer was the one selling hope. It would have made all the sense in the world for Mike Vick to go to Syracuse (where he originally committed) and follow McNabb but Beamer was able to convince him otherwise.

And if Blanding flips he probably leaves the state just based on the schools he liked prior to committing. By all accounts he's a talented player so I hope he ends up somewhere other than UVA.

I agree that Facyson has been great this year, but I don't know if he has even been our best corner. I'd take Kyle over him still. I think the only reason he's on that list is because of his interception numbers.

I've been waiting for these rankings to get posted. I had a sneaking suspicion we'd rank at the top of the list. Coaches have a lot of positive things to take on the recruiting trail this week.

The rankings are based on scores through October 5th, so that's including UNC, but not Pitt. Our defensive F/+ score through the first six games was +29.2%. For comparison's sake, last year's National Champion Alabama team had the top defense with a defensive F/+ score of +27.8%

Yeah I actually had this conversation with a coworker yesterday and he brought up a good point about our DB's. What other college team plays as much man as we do and leaves our guys on an island? Corners that can play zone in the NFL are a dime a dozen compared to how many can play man. That may be why so many of our DB guys get a shot in the league. Bud and Torrian are basically showcasing them for the NFL during their careers.

On the same note Whip is such a tweener position it doesn't really translate to the NFL game. Although, if Dadi can prove to cover at that spot he could be one hell of a 3-4 LB in the NFL.

I think it's because of Fosters defensive scheme. It's not one that really preps a player for the NFL. I've heard that somewhere before but I'm not sure how true that is. I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter what system you're in if you're picking off passes 2 times per game and sacking the QB 3-4 times per game

Now they are all freaking out that Andrew Brown will decommit from them and commit to Tech. Interesting.
