There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Also, this was my senior quote in the yearbook back in high school.

I really think that there is a little more to the offense than we have showed. Note, the Hokies have not used the triple option (with a pitch man) off the veer from the pistol since the Alabama game. I also agree that I like some more work under center, as when they have run from under center in the last couple of games they have performed well.

BUT, and this is a big one, to suggest that Loeffler doesn't have a plan is not substantiated on film. I will touch on this in greater detail in my film review, but Loeffler ran three variations of the read option from the pistol/shotgun set (veer, a trap/wham series, and inverted veer.) He mixed in a little bit of zone, sweep, and power sweep (highlighted by Mason above.)

When you watch the film, you can sense a rhythm being developed. Establishing one play as a threat makes faking that threat much more effective. You could see holes opening through influence movement rather than just big hogmollies paving open running lanes. Loeffler ran (by my count) 31 different plays that looked like a variation of a read option in the game. Ten were veer (leaving a defender unblocked and reading off him, ten were inverted veer, with a 4-6 split of Mangus vs. Thomas, and eleven involved leaving the defensive end unblocked and then trapping/whamming him with a tight end or fullback coming across the formation. Each sets up the other, as we will show in greater detail tomorrow.

Good point about last year. And I would also add that the Marshall team from Sat. could probably have given Pitt and Cincy a run for their money.

As long as Beamer gets as fired up as he did when that Damned Tony Gregory (TIC) blocked in the back on 34's punt return, he can stay as long as he wants. I can't remember the last time I saw get the rowdy.

there was also a blatant holding on Wilson on Cato's TD run. If they don't hold, Wilson sacks him for an 8 yard loss.

I blame me because I have to wake up at 11:59 at night to watch 'em. 8:00PM is perfect me. Goes well with my Sunday morning coffee, so if you guys can get Weaver, Glennon and Canada to listen, the later the better, eh?

You know how teachers and parents always tell kids there are no stupid questions? Well this is one.

Despite all his faults, and I've been one of those quick to point them out, Logan is one of the clutchest quarterbacks we've ever had. Miami 2011, Michigan 2012, GT 2012, Cincy 2012, BC 2012, Rutgers 2012, and then this game. Some of those were losses, but he still brought us back at the end. So yea, he might be mediocre for 52 minutes. But if we can get it to that final 8 with a chance to tie it or take the lead, I want that guy as my quarterback.

I'm surprised that we're running so many plays from the pistol. I thought Loeffler got rid of that and made LT3 go under center. Has he dropped back at all this season? Great stuff Mason and I can't wait to see Loeffler unleash hell on the ACC.

I blame Canada

Cody needs to be gone. We shouldn't have to rely on our kickers to win games. I know that's been our MO lately but we shouldn't even be having this discussion. There is no reason we should retain a player who keeps screwing up. Cody doesn't deserve a 3rd 4th or 5th chance. Kick him off the team and move on. Tell LT3 that we need TDs instead of FGs and lets go play some football.

Yeah, if Beamer didn't change up the offensive coaching staff then we could be having this talk. Seeing how he did, he's got at least a couple years before that should come up. At least enough time for the offensive staff to get settled. They have only had not even eight months to go from setting out a dumpster fire to having to try and win games. That's not very long at all.

no.
However, when it is time (and I see that on the horizon), I would hope that we (him and VT) and proceed in a way that is as classy and well-planned as he would deserve.
I'm looking at Texas and the potential mess there, and what happened with Bowden at FSU, and even the fiasco at Penn State.
Hopefully VT can show the others how it can be done......

If I had to guess, no more than 5 but he'll retire as opposed to getting fired.

so when does santamaria get here? is he a jr or sr?

(and yes i'm too lazy to look it up)

Umm...NO. Had he not overhauled the coaching staff twice in the last 3 seasons...maybe. That's alot of change for a guy who HATES change, which tells me he's still hungry and still wants to win.

I know you're just asking a question - basically, but I'm wondering if we don't need a panic button reset or something. Some things just need a little time. Beamer is not Bowdenesque age yet. He's trying to get it right and I think now is on the right track.
