It's so strange - he's so big and broad, but his face looks so young, and his proportions aren't lanky at all. It makes Beamer look like a Hobbit or Saban or something...

with the right coaching at least

The Hogs4Hokies group will be there that night. Wish I could join in, as the motorcycles will be doing a parade lap around the warning track. Just too far to drive from DC to Richmond on a school night.

I don't know the history of some of these positions, but what the hell:

QB: Tyrod
RB: (1)RMFW, (2) DW4
OL: C Jake Grove. LT Duane Brown. I'll defer to everyone else's opinions after these two.
WR: Royal, Davis, Coale
TE: King
FB: Ferguson

CB: Hall and Flowers
FS: DJ Parker
ROV: Kam
LB: Hall, Adibi, Grimm
DL: Bruce Smith. Terrordome. Worilds. Plus...somebody

I can't argue with a lot of other selections people are making, but for my money, RMFW > KJ, DW4 > Suggs and Darren Evans, but I loved that Evans. One of my favorite Hokies of all time. Also why I put Coale in the WR group. I never saw Antonio Freeman at VT.

EDIT: I just saw another post mentioning Tapp. Pencil him in as the last DL. And I've decided to add this, too:
Remove DW4 from RB and add KJ instead. Then add:
K: Shayne Graham
KR: DW4
Use Coale to punt and DHall to return punts.

Is anyone else fucking psyched that we're actively picking up OL men that are starting to fit the mold of an...SEC team?

This is why the Hokies are going to something special again. And quick.

We're a family again.

Quick observations on Colt:

One, the kid can play both left and right tackle. His high school team flips tackles, so he is always away from the tight end. He is was a first team all state selection. He is 6'4 and growing, and looks like a rock solid 260.

For reasons other than how he fits in the scheme, I absolutely love this recruit. He is utilized on interior trap plays, pulling outside-in. He makes terrific contact and most inportantly HIS FEET KEEP CHOPPING at contact. He gets downhill and dominates opponents and has a ton of pancakes. He also looked outstanding on straight drive blocks. Despite being taller than most of his defenders, he gets underneath their pads and drives them north south. Again, terrific leg drive and great pad level. For good measure, he also throws some nasty chop blocks, which is always a good ace in the hole when scoop blocking on the back side of an inside zone or a stretch play.

Concerns are few, and none stem from what I can see on film. He is a pad blocker, which means he leads with his shoulder pads low and then rolls his hips through and up. That is how I would teach kids to block, but today blocking is taught through arm extension and lateral movement.

He pulls so much that it is hard to determine how he would handle scooping a big three technique going away from the play, which isn't a big concern. We just don't see it on film.

The same issue exists with pass blocking. I am sure he has the physical tools, but there really isn't any footage of him in drop back pass blocking situations. Given how tight he keeps his arms to his body and how well he blocks with his weight over his toes, he could have some challenges getting used to a normal pass blocking technique. Sergio Render had some similar challenges, especially with blitz pick up.

This isn't a "system" recruit, but is a kid who has a ton of potential. If you exclude Wyatt Teller, he is the best Hokie OL recruit in the last two classes based on his high school film. I am really excited about this pick up.

After the way he played in the tourney, there's no doubt he would be our best player right now.

Nice call, Pettit is in the books as a Hokie! Walker would be a huge get, imo.

Huh. Glad to see that Brent Benedict finally has a starting spot since he was running with the 2's during the spring.

I can't wait to see Bucky, Colt and Billy Ray layin' down the hammer. Welcome to Hokie Nation Colt!

Bruce Smith in the Ballet Hall of Fame? Who knew?

/spelling troll

DeAngelo Hall and Marcus Vick are the poster children for the most dysfunctional screwed up yet hyper talented team in VT history. I wouldn't give a bucket of warm piss for either one. I still have nightmares of DHall running away from trying to tackle Heath Miller in the last Commonwealth Cup loss.

Simple reason is I didn't see Bruce Smith play in college. Based on his pro career and what people say about Bruce, of course he is number 1 on D.

Lots of fuss about the running backs. I want my WRs as gamebreakers and my backs as the anvil to break the other team's will. Wilson had spectacular athletic ability and guts, but he was as poor a short yardage runner as I have ever seen at VT. As a tailback, I take a bunch of guys before Wilson. Stith, Oxendine, Dwayne Thomas, maybe even Branden Ore. And nobody, absolutely nobody can convince me that the Hokies would not have beaten Clemson if Darren Evans is back and starts in 2011. He was the safety net that would have allowed Logan to calm down in rough games. As good as Wilson was, he was not a guy who could grind out 3-4 first downs to settle a team down. See Darren Evans vs NC State in 2010.

Only players from the last 25 years.

The big difference here is that the women you have given as examples are people who have intentionally put themselves in the public eye. They are public figures and because of that, they open themselves up for scrutiny.

That said, you are definitely entitled to your opinion about anyone at any time. If people disagree or do not think the comments a worthwhile, they have a vote...and if you look at all the upvotes vs. downvotes, you are not in the minority.

Would have to have E. Green in my defensive backfield somewhere. At least as honorable mention. D. Hall and E. Green were two of the best playmakers I ever watched in Lane. IMO Also I would have to have L. Suggs in my backfield somewhere. I would run a two back at If I had two.

That is my everlasting memory too. We were so high up in section 5 in row jjjj, we initially thought he caught it lol.

The first guy had Bruce as the captain. I think everyone has Bruce implied on their team as their is no bigger name in the history of our program. Plus he was a legitimate beast on the field.

I love that the #1 projected player is named after Ender...
