Some one get The whole staff on a jet to Hampton and va beach because this is a serious must to get these two...
That should have been in 2011 but his redshirt was burned twice early on. Logan did very well in 2011, Tyrod would have done great. Just think about it for a minute...Tyrod, David Wilson, Danny Coale, and Boykin would have been a great offensive group. Who knows, Ryan Williams or Darren Evans may have even stuck around for that year if Tyrod was here and then where would we be? David Wilson most likely wouldn't have had the crazy year he had and could have stayed another year. I also believe that with Tyrod, we wouldn't have lost to Clemson both times.
Thank you ...imagine if tyrod had a line....Iam pretty much sure we would have been in a mix for nc game....no joke!!
David Wilson caught a rabbit so he wins by default.
It's around page 100 or something where they list all of the Super Iron Hokies and other weight room records.
I'd have to place Kyshoen Jarrett below Exum, and slide everyone else down.
To me, the majority of the blame for not winning those high-profile games on the coaches. LSU in 2007 is the only one that comes to mind where we didn't belong on the same field. Look at how many of them required our O to step-up (get a first down, etc) and poor decisions (fake punt). I truly hope our new offensive brain trust can help us move the needle in the other direction for the big games.
I think Clowney may have been as fast as Royal at WR. The rest sound right to me, unless Tony Gregory was that fast too. A Vick for QB. I can't think of anyone who was faster than DHall at DB, and I think he was fastest.
I looked at the program and couldn't find the answer, though. I suppose it will remain a mystery.
You mean we can't limit the excitement to just him right. Bucky and Ford coached by Leoffler. I'm sold. Next few years of Quarterback play for us are going to be solid. Going to go ahead and pour some Koolaid for me and my kids. We're going to set up a stand right here on TKP. Anyone thirsty, come try a glass, all paid for by Scott Leoffler.
How about we stop recruiting tight ends for every position on the field? LT, much of the OL, Chris Drager to DE. Then, oh, let's not forget that we end up with DE recruits (Zach McCray, the other guy who moved) moving to TE. I understand that guys develop better in some ways than others when they hit campus. Some guys grow quite a bit. But how about we recruit guys and let them play their positions? Had we gotten a real QB for our post-Tyrod years, how effective would LT3 have been at TE (you know, the position we recruited him for and the one he wanted to play)?
I think the counter-argument here is that we have gotten just about as successful as we can using this blueprint. It gives us consistent 10 win seasons, but we just don't reach the next level. We have proven we can develop these "under-the-radar" guys. If we can just land some top 10 recruiting classes, we have the coaching to make us an elite team.
David Clowney -> Brandon Flowers -> Jayron Hosely -> Dadi Nicolas/Luther Maddy
I know Fuller didn't have the year that people were expecting, but if he played hurt for as long as people were saying, I'd fully expect him to bounce back and be a big time contributor this year.
Zone blocking has pretty simple rules. You have a path, you stay on it and engage the first person that crosses your face. I and Pro style blocking are much more complicated.
They have all the positional records posted on the wall in the weight room in Merriman. If I remember right from the summers I worked out in there, D. Hall was the fastest at like a 4.18 or something.
My guesses would have been Mike Vick for fastest QB, DHall for fastest DB, Wilson for fastest RB, and and Royal for fastest receiver. I'm amazed by the speed of some of those linemen on both side of the ball though.
Thanks very much appreciated. I merely make my assessment off of potential. Still think many pieces have to come together for it all to work out
Just curious, is there a deadline for this sort of thing? Could we be halfway into the season and then hear back or does it have to happen before the first kickoff of the season?
I'm going to guess David Wilson.. but I'm probably wrong
It doesn't matter how great he is if we don't have an OL or a running game. I am very excited to get this kid but I have 0 expectations until we get a more solid foothold in the trenches.
Brandon Flowers is actually one of those under the radar players you are referring to.
But yes, I agree with your point. While UVA has grabbed the headlines, I think there is a lot to like about the players we have picked up for 2014.
Every time I asked in the offseason, they said they were still waiting to hear. I haven't asked in a while. Might try that again soon.
You're first answer was the one I suspected.
My realistic hope for the OL this year is quite simple: I don't want to see the linemen looking at each other and "taking tickets" when the ball is snapped. Too many times we failed to hit anyone. To me, eliminating that and getting the attitude to block to the echo of the whistle would be a huge step.
I was wondering the same thing

My opinion has always been that Beamer has wanted to rely more on the return game, which causes us not to go for blocks as much. I'm always a fan of committing. We used to always go for the blocks giving a higher percentage to actually block one. This was Beamerball in all its glory. Now, we pick and choose when to go for them, making it obvious to the other team. This also causes our players to get excited and try their absolute hardest get the block because they know they might not get another shot, which usually results in a roughing/running into the kicker penalty.
Basically, if we bring the heat each time, our chances to block drastically increase and there will be less penalties because the players will be smarter, knowing they have more opportunities and won't always dive recklessly for the block. Hope I explained this in a way that makes sense.
