I went to Holston in the early 2000s when we averaged 3 wins a season. Usually Twin Springs, Battle, and another school. When I played, I think Castlewood was one of the teams. I would add in a "Go Team" of my own but someone might get confused and think I'm talking about LOLUVA.
I feel like I'm not giving anything away by saying this because nobody was going to guess him. But I definitely did not think Lee Suggs would be top 10 on that list.
I think they clocked Mike Vick and D. Hall under 4.2, no?
Easy answer, he was a lousy coach who didn't know how to teach the scheme.
A deeper dive: I think their failure to get high profile kids like Painter, Gibson, and Shuman on the field sooner didn't help. It also didn't help that they never FULLY implemented the zone blocking scheme. They continued to revert back to the off tackle power play and the stretch play utilizing cross blocking when the chips were down, and then added the zone read. Now, the kids they have on hand are kind of a mismatch of odd parts. Some kids are more suited to an eye formation style blocking (Benedict, Farris, Wang) and others are more suited to zone blocking (Gibson, Shuman, Miller.)
Marcus Vick, d hall, macho Harris?
Have to guess D Hall
French - top shelf, as always. Question/confirmation: Wasn't Newsome supposed to be a zone-blocking coach? If so, why is the cupboard so bare?
Given he didn't do a good job, shouldn't he have recruited the same guy of guys Grimes would like (maybe just not up to the quality)? If we had been a spread or even old school "power-I", I could more understand a difference.
I'm gonna guess Deangelo or Kevin Jones
While Grimes might need to work on building the best o line in the ACC at least we already have the most 'MERICAN locked up.
I agree about the excitement but I think we need to be careful anointing him as an all time great QB. A lot can happen between now and then.
Btw welcome to TKP!
Without looking, I know DHall and Marcus Vick had sub 4.3 40s
I heard that David Wilson guy is pretty fast, but i wouldnt be surprised if Eddie Royal or D Hall was somewhere in there?
i think what needs to change is very simple. Beat the top teams when you play them. #BeatBama
A couple of years ago at one of the Recruiting nights in Arlington there was a question about Demetrious Nicholson and it was said that he really wanted to be a Hokie (IIRC might have even been a big fan for a few years), but when he saw he could get on the field right away at UVA he went there.
I think I would like for Virginia Tech to return to the blueprint of success that launched Virginia Tech's success during Beamer's tenure.
While landing four- and five-stars recruits help, I believe part of Tech's success for years has been the identifying recruits who have hidden qualities, and bringing out the best in them. Once in a while, landing players such as Tyrod, Macho Harris, Brandon Flowers, David Wilson, and other lauded players, it is the under-the-radar, blue-collar type of players that made Virginia Tech feared.
It is why I am truly excited about the class of 2014. I think Tech has landed some solid players who will fit the offensive philosophies of Loeffler. It will take some time, but I think it will pay dividends.
That's great!! I guess I really need to get on that Twitter.....
A Classic for the Ages
Can't tell you how many times I've watched this
Supposedly it used to be each Company in the corps had their own and with an idividual patch on it, but Band is just the only one who still has them and we pay for them out of pocket junior year.
As long as we have at least one solid QB commit per class, we're doing alright.
He tweeted a video of him running in cleats and on grass, completely unassisted about a week ago
I am really excited where we will be in 2-3 years. If we can put the pieces together and have a top 10 ranked defense (what is the norm here) and even get to just a top 25 offense I think that will be when we start really getting to be elite.
Heck we might even win the big game?!
I don't celebrate Christmas. But my birthday is a week before the Bama game, sounds like a perfect birthday present to me.
I think I'd keep your list but replace #5 with DJ Coles. He will be needed for veteran leadership and also will play a crucial role in Lefty's system as the H-Back, Flex type player.
#6 on my list is CJ
There was a reason. VT calls the punt block team the Pride and Joy. Marcus showed no pride and hardly gave us joy.

Yah, I found the list and Suggs surprised me as well.
I also was not aware that #2 on the list posted that time. I knew he was football fast but didn't realize he was the 2nd fastest at VT ever.
