Couldn't agree more with this statement. I also understand the sentiment that we need better talent to get over the hump. But highly-touted players don't necessarily mean great production on the field. Let's look at all of the 4 & 5 star players from 2004-2008 in VA:

2004: Olu Hall, Kent Hicks, Sean Glennon, Jerod Mayo, Chris Long

2005: Victor Harris, Vic Hall, Deveon Simmons, Elan Lewis, Todd Nolan, Pat Sheil, Stephen Friday

2006: Percy Harvin, Vidal Hazelton, Damon McDaniel, Chris Bell, Jarrell Miller, Alex Stadler, Brent Vinson, Dedrick Epps, Sean Gottschalk, Brandon Minor, John Graves

2007: Tyrod Taylor, Peter Lalich, Jamar Jackson, J'Courtney Williams, Jay Smith, Cris Hill, Blake DeChristopher, Terence Fells-Danzer, Andrew Nuss, Bradley Starks

2008: EJ Manuel, Ryan Williams, Mike Glennon, Quinton Coples, Vinston Painter, Marcus Dowtin, Deion Walker, Kerry Boykins, DJ Coles, Dyrell Roberts, Bobby Massie

Of course there are a couple of guys that I would have wanted to play for VT but most of these guys ended up not being impact players.

So if enough people disagree with you they can down vote you and get you banned from TKP. NICE

Because FSU will gladly accept eligible JUCO players who were ineligible out of high school and VT hasn't done that for 10+ years.

Spot on about Butch Davis and Lane Kiffin.

Way to pick the two worst examples of your argument about VT's extra academic requirements for freshmen (primarily an extra math class beyond the NCAA minimums)

Harris and Fisher can't enroll at any NCAA division 1 school. Neither of them met NCAA minimum requirements. Harris because he didn't get credit for an online course or two, and Fisher because he didn't meet the required GPA/SAT combination. And while Harris is having to go the JUCO route and probably won't play for VT, there's a very good chance that Fisher improves his grades/scores enough during a post-grad year at FUMA that he'll be able to enroll in July 2014, maybe as early as January 2014.

I'll take a team of Cody Grimms all day.

Sometimes, it's better to have a walk-on who wants to give the Hokies his all, than a Bluechipper who could be a liability.

Cj actually had a pulled hammy a week or two ago.

Last I saw on twitter, Nnadi was pretty pissed about the snub. He was going back and forth with CJ about it.

Agreed. Has anyone even brought up that maybe these kids don't want to go to Tech? I knew I wanted to be a hokie my freshman year in high school. Maybe D hand or some of these other kids wanted to play for Saban or Bama all their life. Maybe they don't like collegiate gothic, or want to be far away from home. There are so many variables, it would be impossible to say why, unless they spelled it.

To an extent I agree but to take the next step forward (consistently challenging to be in national title game, soon playoffs) it seems there needs to be a better mix of blue chip and chip on the shoulder prospects.

Yes. At -25 he, or any other user, is essentially locked out of the site.

I only provided footage and suggestions on the teaser. This one was all Mstrawther!

Not sure if I should +1 because of the comparison to LeBron James, or if I should -1 because of the comparison to LeBron James...

I thought GT was going to have growing pains in 2008 when CPJ was hired, but they went 9-3 and to the Chick-fil-a Bowl.

I thought Clemson was going to have growing pains in 2011 when Chad Morris was hired, but they went 10-3 and won the ACC to play in the Orange Bowl.

I thought UNC was going to have growing pains in 2012 when Larry Fedora was hired, but they went 8-4 and would have won the Coastal and gone to the best bowl in their recent history.

None of these teams had a Bud Foster led defense with 9 returning starters. Just saying...

Hey, we got a solid QB comment over the last few weeks with Andrew Ford. It aint that bad. We'll all feel better after second summer camp, we always seem to get a good haul after camp, recruiting season is far from over.

Another silver lining. Look at Maddy and Nicoles, they were late 2* commits. We'll get ours on D, even if the recruiting sites don't know them. Our Middle line-backer was a walk-on. Being a Hokie has never been about the glitz and glammer. It has been about hitting hard with a chip on the shoulder. The more recruites we get like that the better.

Hehe. Poking a little fun.

I went to a high school that put 1/3 of our graduating class (about 130 people) into UVA about every year. So I know a LOT of LOLHoos. My LinkedIn profile is chock full of CavaLOLs. They don't pay much attention to football.

But the worst are the people I've known forever who went to James Madison. Ugh. Good folks. Just won't get off my back. Ever.

I think I agree with this. But it just reminds me that this year is going to have growing pains. Too bad, in Logan's last year, that we'll be executing everything new. I hope Grimes, Loeffler, and Moorehead can find a way to ease us in, leverage what we already do well and build from that until his recruits, who know his system, are ready to go.

Might be a few years. This year I want improvement. The next year I want 10 wins, would settle for division title. The next year I want at least 10 wins and an ACCC.

Here here.

My favorite games against LOLUVA (or, as my Washington Redskins had last year against the blue/gray team) are the ones that have season-wide implications for both. For example:

- VT and LOLUVA play for the division title
- VT plays for the division title and LOLUVA is playing for bowl eligibility
- VT plays for the division title and UVA is playing for their first win of the season
- VT plays for pride and UVA plays to avoid embarrassment (38-0, bro)
- VT playing for bowl eligibility and LOLUVA is playing in the sandbox (like last year)
- VT plays for pride and knocks LOLUVA down to Division II (I guess we'd need a relegation structure for this)
- VT plays football and LOLUVA drinks Zima (every year)
- VT exists and LOLUVA
- Just paint their damn field again. Speaking of which, do we have anyone to post as a sentry outside the stadium on LOLUVA week?
- Kinda like the winner of the Redskins/other game last year sent the Redskins to the playoff and the other team home for the offseason. This is one of the greatest victories I can remember, not only for what it meant to us but what it meant to them. AND THAT WE DID IT TO THEM.

Yeah that 2005 game sticks with me.

Now that I think of it, the games that stick with me the most are the two big Miami games from when I was at HokieTown: This one and the 2005 game. Then Logansneak sticks out in my mind, but I had long since matriculated.

I guess I could say, with new clarity, that the Miami game is my biggest appointment-viewing game every year. I'm ready to call this game a bona fide rivalry.
