If Harris doesn't end up playing for VT, I believe it is a blessing in disguise. I don't care how much talent this guy might have, if you have THIS MUCH TROUBLE getting yourself even qualified, I have no idea why VT would keep pursuing this guy. All I've ever heard is that this guy is bad news, and I'm frankly happy to be (mostly) rid of this saga.
You keep wanting to turn this play into something it's not. COULD Auburn have used a curl/wheel/snag combination to attack this zone? Maybe (though I'm not as optimistic about the snag's odds of beating the coverage as you appear to be), but they don't do that in this play. It's not a busted play because the offense doesn't do what you'd expect them too though, especially not if there is a WR open on the play in the middle of the field.
I'll comment on this and then I'll close it off. I think the play has options built into it depending on the coverage, which is why I think the play did not work as it was run in this case. The play has two reads after the snap: 1. Is it Man or Zone coverage? The WR at the bottom of the screen read zone, changed his route to a zone route, The WR at the top of the screen read man and ran the man route. 2. The RB Checks blitz and then moves to the flat.
The combination of these two errors (WR running the wrong check route and the RB not releasing) caused the play not to work. Look at the screen grab. There's acres of space in the top flat. There's no way the RB should have NOT released to the flat!
That said, I enjoyed the back and forth immensely, which is why I signed up for this site to begin with, the discussion is very detailed and doesn't resort to name calling, etc. like other message boards.
Great job and keep up the excellent work.

Great memories. This picture was the desktop background on my PC for a long time.

Great job, Billdozer!

Loeffler needs to put a little more success on tape before we can call him "elite" or even "very good."
I agree. Auburn's offense was... dreadful. Very few positive results. However, after watching the game film I feel much more confident that there wasn't any systemic problems with Loeffler's game plans. Just a lack of execution.
Which is in and of itself a problem that does make me pause. Loeffler was the offensive coordinator for a team that consistently failed to execute his gameplans. Were his teams physically overmatched? On occasion, for sure. He WAS playing in the SEC.
But drawing up plays is only a 1/10th of the job for a coordinator. A coach who is able to get his players to play with confidence and intelligence is much more valuable then one who's a genius on the chalkboard.
Juries out on whether Loeffler will be able to get everyone on the VT offense on the same page.
I hope that UVA has a good season, only to be crushed by VT in the Commonwealth game. Loved it the year that UVA fans thought they had Tech's number, only to get mollywhopped.
Nothing better then seeing overconfident Hoos being put in their proper place.
I'd say that the amount of success he's shown on tape has shown that his offenses are well-designed and for the most part he puts his players in a position to succeed. I think that's a very good coordinator right there.
As for your second bit, I can't wait for the annual round of "Miami is Back" to end.
I'm diggin the crap outta the music selection.
haha it's my hope that by the time they play Oregon, this is still their best quality 2013 'trailer.' I also like to pretend that Hoos everywhere watch half of it before realizing they are being laughed at.
They already had a 20+ yard gain earlier because the S & W weren't covering the backs out of the backfield.
The RB was open on a play-action I-formation pass.
The play fails because the RB doesn't release to the flat.

The safeties did not drop deep because there wasn't a deep route to force them deep. Why would a defender occupy a zone that doesn't have a player in it?
Even if the WR doesn't run a deep route, he still threatened the safeties with a deep route.
Re-watch the play. Both safeties drop deep in a MOFO coverage. The WR gets vertical and inside of the boundary CB. The safeties have to be wary of the WR running a post at that point and will give up ground. Whether or not the WR actually runs a post doesn't matter to them, they still have to respect the possibility. The WR cuts his route off and cuts across the field underneath of their deep zone. He's open because the LB's can drop underneath his route, since they're occupied by the two snag routes.
The "open" guy that you see is getting open is in a an area occupied by 5 defenders. If that's the play, then Loeffler must of thought Frazier was Brett Farve, because he was going to have to throw that on a rope over the Mike and under the safeties for it to work
Oh come on, now you're just being disingenuous. There weren't five defenders in the area and Frazier wasn't going to have to throw OVER anyone. Here's a screen shot of the play to prove that there is a very large window for Frazier to fit in the ball.

Those linebackers which you count as "defenders in the area" have zero chance of making a play on the ball. Logan Thomas will absolutely make this throw, and I think Loeffler can be forgiven for asking his starting SEC QB to do the same.
Go ahead and soak up all the emotion from this teaser. The main trailer is going to rock hokienation and get everyone to chug their orange and maroon koolaid. I promised. It's f***ing epic.
I meant "under the radar" more as if went and dominated, the big schools would make a bigger push for him. But yeah I guess we will just have to wait and see how things turn out.
haha yes. especially the guy pointing
Yes, unfortunately I do. But I don't consider her a true "Wahoo". She hardly knows when or who they are playing most of the time. We always watch the VT vs UVa games together. Its great because I always end up smiling for most the game. Esp during last years game when London pulled
his time clock episode. Man she was pissed. And I was just smiling. I'm pretty sure she wanted to
knock the smile off my face. But otherwise she's a good person.
+1 to what vtfly wrote, but also consider the fact that Nnadi isn't under *anyone's* radar. The guy is very, very good, and sometimes there just aren't enough slots at particular positions for invite-only camps like The Opening, so someone gets the shaft-O. Silver lining to him not getting invited: no risk of injury if you're not at the camp :) I seem to remember a DB or WR a couple of years back shredding an ACL or ankle at one of the 7 on 7 camps prior to his senior year. But, yeah, safe to say just about every major school in the country knows who Nnadi is. And he fits our stunting/slanting D-line scheme *perfectly*.
Not sure how accurate this is, but this was in the comments section of the roster list on 247:
"Right now they are just giving out a handful of invites at each Nike Camp. They will add more after the Nike Camps and add a few 2015 kids and the list will ultimately grow to around 150. We will keep track of the additions here"
So Nnadi did NOT get invited to the opening. I don't know if he was expecting to or not, but he's done very well at camps so it comes as somewhat of a surprise to me. I'm not complaining, though, because it will probably keep him motivated and under the radar.
For those wondering, Andrew Ford, CJ Reavis, and Javon Harrison were invited to the event. It's supposed to be for the top 150 players in the 2014 class (with the exception of some 2015 ballers) so kudos to them.
thank you! glad you liked it!
Haha you had it right the first time. Thank you good horseonatreadmill!

I haven't heard anything about him, but I'll ask around the PSU folks up here. A lot are very active in their discussion boards, so I'll see if anyone has the low down on him.
